Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Today 50 extremely hilly miles on the bike and a short 4 mile run. Forgot to start the garmin at the beginning so the map looks a bit funny. Weather is HOT here something like 7 degrees hotter on average than normal for March. Also managed 35 min run yesterday. You can take a look at the garmin connect files here: Bike: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/161350027 Run: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/161350041 - Gabe S 9 / B 13/ R14; Total = 36; 49:49:32

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ran a very small local 10k race the "Klondike Challenge." I ran it in 52:10. I was second place over all, first place for the men. This the first time I won a race! I finally beat the guy who always passes me in the last half mile. I followed behind him most of the race, he pulled ahead about 200 yards. There was an aid station at the turn around. On the second lap, I couldn't believe it he stopped for a drink. When I saw that I thought, I can take him he is dying. At the 5 mile mark, he started walking for about 10 yards. I could believe it, he was blowing up. I kept my pace and as I caught him he tried to run with me, so I picked it up a touch. He blew up and I finally beat him! - Gabe S 9 / B 13/ R14; Total = 36; 49:49:32 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jim, congrats on winning your race (men's division) and even better, beating the guy! Today was a good long bike ride day, but I'm finally exhausted. Bike: 5:20, 77 miles with 7,600 ft. of climbing + 43 min brick run

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congratulations on the 10K win Jim! So I'm checking in although I'm not doing the challenge this month. I ran my first race of the year today, the Shamrock Shuffle 8k, which is the unofficial start of the running season here in Chicago. I've run the race for the past six years and have managed to PR each time. This year I wanted to test my training from the various challenges we've done over the past six months. Long story short, I PR'd by 1:01 for a time of 47:11. I was shooting for 45 minutes and I believe I had a reasonable chance of hitting that however they closed my start corral 10 minutes early and sent me to the back of 34,500 runners! (lesson learned, get there early!) I spent the race dodging in and out around slower runners (imagine me saying slower runners :-) ) and the last two miles sealed the deal as people were getting tired and just came to a complete stop right in front of me. All in all I'm pleased with at least a small PR and will get another chance to test my fitness next week in a 5k race. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well Done on the race Jim. Must feel good to win and beat the guy at last. One week to go everybody in the challenge. Keep pushing! Jim - First - Awesome Race! Second - Re: distance, probably three things going on - (1) race not entirely accurate; (2) GPS not entirely accurate; (3) your line you raced wasn't perfect. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, Friday I got fed up with work and turned in my notice. It quickly got replied with a promise of "change" on my monumental workload, it seems to be a reality today. We'll see what happens, I'm starting to leave at 5 every day regardless of what I leave behind, so I can get a life. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ernesto - that's good news. Hopefully the change will last. It's good to know you're going to be back with us. Jim - great news on the win. That's awesome, especially when you got to beat your nemesis ;-) Barry - I've run races like that where you're just trying to get through the crowd the whole way. They generally have a great vibe but can be frustrating if you're going for a time. Congratulations on managing a PR despite it all. I'm finally coming to the realisation that I'm probably not going to catch up on the challenge. But if Gabe and joe would like to have the rest of the week off I'd be happy to try to do 3 sessions a day to get back up there. ;-) I have sessions to post, but I'm about to go for a swim so I figure I'll do it all afterwards. |
