kaburns1214 - 2012-08-16 5:03 AM I would get a disk cover first (I know you want the decals).  A cover will run you about $100 rather than the closer to $1000 that a disk wheel will cost.

I know.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a used Hed 3 and a disc cover.  Really the only thing holding me back is that the bike came with stupid Shimano wheels and wheelbuilder won't make covers for them.  Boo.

Really want a Pinky and the Brain sticker to put on my top tube.  They pretty much exemplify my daughters to a T.

I have Shimano wheels too, so disc cover not possible.

Mile repeats last night! Whoo hoo! They felt awesome! I even felt like I could have pushed it a little bit more.

Bad news is I have been looking for my GPS watch for the last week and can't find it :/ The baby likes to get ahold of it and wear it around so no telling where it could be.

Today is a rest day but I am itching to do a small ride on the bike and use it as recovery from mile repeats. I am still deciding on decals but it would be cool to find some flame looking letters in red.

Rest day for me, and I'm glad.  I'm sore and tired, and my left IT band is acting up.  The last couple weeks I have been plagued with self doubt.  I don't like it.  The riding 56 miles and then running 13.1 miles after is starting to seem like a daunting challenge.  I really need to work on my mindset going into this race, and I hope Saturday will help.  If I pre-ride the course and come out ok, then I know I'll be alright for my race.  Right?  I am not in a good mental place.

Why am I thinking this way right now?

Very easy mindset to fall into.  Happened to me this year before my Oly in April for some reason.  You are going to be fine.  It's really easy to focus on the workouts missed, or the ones that didn't go as planned or any other time you mentally think you squandered, but the fact is you can handle it.  Even if the end result isn't what you envisioned it will be one kick a$$ experience.

Agree with Scott. You've got this. Just don't go out to hard, and don't set too high of expectations. You'll be fun, enjoy the experience. That's why we do this right, to have fun.

Sometimes having fun like Cindy's friends husbands do (drinking beer and shooting guns) seems like a lot less stressful way to have fun.  LOL.

Thank you both for sharing some words.  I never did this last year...probably because it was my first year and I had no expectations going into every race.  Now I seem to set these arbitrary time goals, and if I don't meet them, then my confidence is completely shaken.  Yes, I have prepared for the distance, so I know I can finish (after reading that thread in TT about average training per month for HIM, I realize I am on the upper end of training volume compared to other people). but I can help but want to do really, really well.  When I reflect on my last couple races, I realize that my confidence/mental state hasn't been the greatest, and I can't pinpoint what is affecting it.

Anyway, I'm just going to wrap up the rest of my peak training (which is exhausting, btw) and try not to dwell on all the things I didn't do or could have done better, because it just doesn't matter anymore.  I really have tried my hardest to do well, and I will do the same at Cedar Point.  I hope tomorrow's preview day makes me feel better about the unknown.

You are going to do great Jen! Start visualizing yourself coming through the finish line with a big smile on your face, proud of your accomplishment! You worked hard for this -drop your time goals and have fun - taking the pressure off will change your mindset!!

Happy Bday Jen.  Have fun out on the course.

I bumped my Sunday workout to today.  Almost 60 miles with some intervals.  Love these kinda workouts.  One of the guys out there was Tommy who did IMNYC last week.  He was amazed at how hard the course was.  He said insanely hard with pros falling out on the run course.  He was saying at one point he was riding at 220 watts and was doing single digit mph.  Just a really hard course.

Went for a run this morning (well, at like 10am!), then had to head to the office for a short bit to handle some things. Now getting ready for a bbq at a friends house.

I've been working on fixing the Hartford Track Club web page.  Or rather telling Shaun what I want him to do to fix the web page.  Here's where we're at: http://www.hartfordtrackclub.org/

I had a blast yesterday at the course preview.  Morning started off a little crazy, as I stopped at the McDonalds right off the exit to use the restroom and couldn't start my husband's car when I got back outside.  Called him and he told me to hop on my bike and get to the course, and he'd meet me down in Huron to look at the car once I was done with the preview.  Strapped my transition bag to my back and rode to Sawmill Creek Resort (home base for the CTC preview).  The Cedar Point Rev 3 RD was there to answer questions.  Pretty cool!

OWS Clinic was ok.  I wish I would have swum instead, but it is what it is.  Worked on sighting, which is a skill that needs improvement, so that's a plus.  Got some info that is useful as well.  The swim course is shallow for the first 200 yards until you reach the first buoy, so it's a running start until water hits knees and then dolphin diving for the next 100 yards.  Good to know!

Bike course had flat sections and rolling sections with one really big hill.  The wind was probably the biggest factor for me, but it's a matter of mental toughness, and I think I'll be fine on race day.  It felt great to ride with a big group of people.  I had only taken 4 gels and 200 calories of sports drink (1 32 oz. bottle) on my bike, as the CTC said they'd have an aid station 1/2 way.  I'd planned on refilling my water bottle at the station.  Turns out the station wasn't until mile 45, and by then I was absolutely parched.  My lip actually cracked and bled.  LOL  Didn't really want gatorade at the aid station, so I refilled my bottle with water and grabbed 6 fig newtons instead  Ended up riding 60 total.

It was a great day!

Ran nearly 12 miles this morning.  I was supposed to go for another OWS today, but it's not happening.  My body is toast.  I had to take some tylenol after my run....that's how sore I am!  One more peak week, and then it's taper time.

I was in Vermont with the family for a week. Didn't nearly hit my training numbers but hopefully the mini-break will leave me fresh for a final push to Pumpkinman.
