Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED jarvy01 - 2013-04-27 4:37 AM Thanks for this, Matt. It looks like a pretty solid workout! How long have you been swimming masters? Only since about this past November. I used to swim competitively as a kid, but that was a long time ago. This has really helped me an enormous amount. In the name of full disclosure, though, I didn't do all of this workout Friday. I stopped in the middle of the "Power Pyramid" so I didn't over do it too soon after being sick. |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Looks like some good training days today! Norma, good luck and have fun! I did my first full outside ride today as well. Much easier to maintain HR on the trainer. So it was good overall except my speed and cadence sensor bit the dust! I guess the screw holding the arm on came of and then the wheel ripped off the arm. The sucky part is the TIMEX watch uses the speed cadence sensor for distance and speed covered not the GPS. So I have no idea how far I went after mile 26.4! Off to buy a new one now. I have a pic of the beautiful country side I got to ride in that I will post up later. |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Thanks, kinda in disbelief, because I thought I maxed out last year, I trained on my own and thought it was as much as I could handle. I ended up hurting myself by running too much, too fast. I was all over the place. This year, following a structured program, no injuries so far, about 175% of last year's volume, and the run has gone from my least favorite to 2nd. Sorry swim. I think your "durability" has a lot to do with progress; meaning your second and third seasons at this yield gains just from your adaptation to the training on a higher, or seasonal level. Not just the training block for the month. I wish I had started this 20 years ago. |

Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Todd: X2...that is seriously (expletive) fast. So you have been at this 2 - 3 years. Did you have an athletic background in college or high school? Like former track star? I ask because, although I have seen some nice gains in the short amount of time I have been doing this, it is hard for me to envision making the kind of gains you have described.. |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED no, I was and athletic disaster!! I stuck to skiing as much as I could (teens and 20's), then dirt bikes (20's), then mountain bike after too many gas-powered accidents (20's and 30's), and jet-skiing (20's and 30's). Then kids, more mountain biking (30's to 40). NEVER running - my knees hurt too bad from skiing the bumps and the dirt bikes. I put on a ton of weight till about 39, then said ENOUGH. Tried the treadmill, that sucked. Ran and walked my first 5k as part of a sprint tri in 2009 and told myself that I wasn't going to let it beat me, and actually tried to train - did my best on my own, but in hind sight, it seems like I was beating myself up by doing it wrong - too much, too fast. If you follow the experience of those who have been there and done that, it's a safe bet that we're all human and will suffer from the same injuries if not careful. |

Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I agree. I have been really happy with how things have been going in only this short amount of time. I was curious about your experiences because your results in only a short amount of time have been amazing. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Up early for a swim that included lots of drills. My legs were fried yesterday. Swim really loosened things up and now I'm feeling great I have a recovery ride later and that wraps up this month for me. I'm not going to have nearly the volume that most of you have for this month. It's all good. I've been sleeping like a rock lately because of the training, kids' activities, and allergies. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Are all bento boxes the same? I'm working on my IM set up, and I'm placing one final order. Bento box and rear hydration are on the list. Also, where do you toss empty bottles during an IM? At aid stations? What if you just want a couple sips of water? I thought I read that you can get penalties for dumping bottles, and I want to be sure I know the proper rules. Yes, I sit around the think about these things. LOL |

Read the reviews on Amazon. I know Kelly uses the large bento from FuelBelt. I have the aero one from there and I'm going to make it work for Texas I think.
There is a spot before and after the aid station for empties. I plan on taking a bottle of perform and one of water at every aid station. Perform for hydration and water to dump on my head. So it's fine to dump them, just do it in the aid station area. |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED So I just got the shipping notification that all my nutrition for Texas is on the way. So now I have new bike shoes, new run shoes on the way, and all my nutrition/hydration either in house or on the way. I showed Cindy my spreadsheet of IM stuff and her response was "Look finally something important enough for you to make a list."

Seeing how much you need to carry you want the biggest bento box possible -- I would suggest this one: http://www.fuelbelt.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1527/.f?sc=23&category=-123 |

^^^^ x 2! The most important part of tri training is consistency. |
