Made a Buddhacicle today and ran four miles in the freezing cold. Wind chill factor was around 15-20. But I survived. Mrs. Buddha is softening about the Firecracker Tri, but she may not go, none of the hotels around there allow dogs so she may stay at home with ours.

Anyone other than Jetpack using a GPS for running? I'm thinking about buying the Garmin 201, I already have a heart rate monitor.

Nice job PGilger. Was 33 tops today went for a five miler anyway. Tried some New Balance shoes to see if that helps. Feet still went numb but I was able to recover them while running. I changed the way they are laced well see if that helps on the next run. I'm afraid I may need a visit to the doctor to completely solve this.

Was getting all dressed up to go for a ride today. Outside temps. are 28 degrees, blew out the zipper on my booties so no ride. Changed and went grocery shopping instead, so far not a good day in the frigid north.

Back of the pack breathing hard
Subject: RE: Jetpack's Group - FULL

What the heck ever happened to Spring!?   Sheesh.  So today I am watching NBC and it's snowing in Richmond VA !!  Cycling on until 5pm.

We had the windows open and AC off for the night and day down.  Got down into the 50's last night.  And today only 65 or so.

Budda, I can't say for sure want I would do about the foot thing.  I have experienced that and it SUCKS.  I start out on the run and everything is fine and then whammo my right or left foot goes numb.

As a matter of fact, I was on a 2hr run the other day and 1:15 into, after 2 stops to re-adjust my laces and the sock on my left foot, I just decided to run sockless.  Felt weird but I didn't get any blisters.  I have been running in the same shoe for the past year.

I love this particular brand and model so much I have 4 of them.  1 re-tired, 1 i am using now and 2 new ones on the shelf.  I bought so many after the first one cause I knew theat when it came time to replace the shoe, that it would be discontinued and hard to find.

I would try a few things. One at a time.  1) Lace the shoes as lose and you feel comfortable with.  The feet swell throughout the day and more so when running. 2) Try new socks.  3) Try easy laces.  The elastic ones that you just cinch down and forget.  Those tend to hold a more even pressure throughout the whole lace of the shoe.

First and foremost ask a professional and real running shoe store that you know knows what they are talking about.

Tyler,

We've had that discussion about keeping the laces loose before. My last pair I had then so loose I was worried about blisters, my feet were really slidinbg in them. These shoes I kept them a little snug for comparision. I've relaced them and will know for sure on Wednesdays run. I'm headed to Virginia on Wednesday so it'll be a late run.

Also I'm going to have some t-shirts made with a logo on them for the team. I need to know what size everybody needs, seeing as I'm paying for them I'm only going to have one shirt for each of us. Tyler that includes Kelly, I can't make up team jetpack shirts and not have one for her. I plan on ordering them as soon as I can find somebody to draw them out the way I want. I do want pictures posted with everybody wearing them however.

I'm in for the Firecracker Triathlon. I'll sign up today. Who's going to be doing this one?

I'm also in a serious slump, haven't lost any weight since 2/26 getting very frustrating. The only thing keeping me motivated is all the races I've signed up for.

THe wifey gave me clearance to do the race also. I'll sign up soon.

Not sure how you feel about it or what everyone else says about it but have you tried to take a dietary supplement. I know I am not where you are but I was stuck for about a month and not able to lose any weight. I tried a product called Xenadrine EFX. Suppose to help increase the body's metabolic rate whaich should help lose some LBS. You take a simple multi vitamin with it. If you are getting frustrated give it a try. I have not notices any physical changes with my body other than weight loss.

Decided this morning I'll go back to logging what I eat. After I finish my week of on call and get back from VA I'll start riding my bike to work every day in addition to running and swimming. If I do not see any improvement before June 16th. I'm going to the doctors, it's been suggested by several people that know me there might be a thyroid problem.

It looks like everyone is doing great dispite the weather! Last week was a slump for me. I could not get motivated after running in 70 degrees and then seeing it snow the next day...blahhh

George, definately keep a log of food you are eating throughout the day. I often munch with out realizing how much I've just eaten. It does help if I write it all down. I seem to be more cognizant of what I am putting in my mouth. I also ask myself "is this a healthy snack, meal, option?"

I am down 3 lbs after a month long plateau!

It looks like we are all in for FireCracker! Let me know if you are going to be hanging out in town after the race. Everyone is invited to a post race bar-b-que at my house.

Haven't decided to drive in on the morning of by myself or get a hothel and bring the wife and kids. All depends on July 4th party from the inlaws of which weekend they are doing their family party. Will try and find out soon so I can decide on which way to do.

After loafing all weekend I decided to do a little tri workout this morning. Went to the pool and did 800 yards, did a 50 min. spin class and then went and ran 2 miles on the treadmill. Felt pretty good for not doing much all weekend. Need to start gearing up for my race next month.

Well, went for a 38:46 run. Shoes laced differently and sliding all over my feet they were so loose. And...went completly numb at 30 minutes, looks like I'll be visiting my doctor after I get back from Virginia. While out there I'm going to experiment with walking for a minute or two every 20 during the run to see if that will at least extend my time somewhat.

Do your feet go numb after you walk at a fast pace also?  Just checking how fast you have to be moving or how hard you have to be working out.

You know, I've never thought to check that out. I'll try that on the next run just to see what the pace needs to be. I do know that when I stop running the feeling comes right back.

Interesting. What about your arches. Do you have any. Flat footed. Not sure maybe need arch supports? Curious on this one. Sure would make your training better if you weren't always worries about your feet hurting.

Stevensville is a nice little town right next to St. Joe. I would have no problem staying at the Baymont.

I am working as a volunteer coordinator for the transition area aid station at Steelhead and am looking for volunteers to man the stations. The first station is the water station when the athletes are finishing the swim. The next aid station is in transition from bike to run. Both stations last an hour or so.
There are several "perks" that come along with volunteering. The best one that I thought last year was the parking pass. A free t-shirt and food are also included. I did these aid stations last year with my then 9 year old daughter and we had a blast.
Since I am actually in the race this year I need to find the volunteers. Anyone interested?????
We need all the volunteers that we can get and I could always use the moral support of the Jetpack team too!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far....it's snowing here :00 blahhhh

Thanks for the info on the hotel.

I was thinking about doing it but it doesn't fit my schedule. We are on vacation and I have a race planned that weekend. I will think about it for next year.

Budda,

Really hope you get that foot thing worked out.  Going numb sucks.

I (sniff sniff) smell race season!

http://sommersports.com/events/triamerica/tour/clermont/

My first tri of the season above.  A weird race distance I wasn't aware of. Sort of between an Oly and a HIM.  It's a 2k swim/37 bike/15k run.  We'll see if all this base training and a littel speed work has paid off.  PR'd my 10k time today.  55mins.  Felt good.

I have very high arches and also inserts for my shoes. I'll be seeing my foot Doc when I get back home.

I went for a scheduled 48 minute run today in sunny beautiful Portsmouth, VA. At the 20 minute and 42 minute mark I walked for 2 minutes. At 39 min. I felt a little numbness which completly went away at the 42 min. walk. No other problems, this may be the solution for the summer.

I'll be in a meat house all weekend but arraigned my schedule so I can run a 5K in Hampton, VA. on Saturday. That'll be my first race of the year and my first 5K in two years.

Jetpack, any word on the design work from your buddy?

George.
