Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have fun at your Oly Jim! Great job Donato! and with an injury! What an inspiration you are! I am starting to get a little spooked about the IM at CDA. Water temps aren't looking so hot. Right now the Lake is 48 and now they have said they will allow aquasocks and neoprine caps. YIKES! I am worried enough about the bike, I don't need to start it as a popcycle! Maybe that will make me go faster to get warm! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks, Tanya! Don't fret too much about your swim. Hopefully, the lake will warm up in the next 3 weeks for ya. Actually, I enjoy high 50's as it keeps me from getting overheated. Jump in for a few minutes, then let the water warm up from your body heat and you only have cold water on your face and feet! ![]() Keep up the great training! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks, Karen! It was definitely a tough course, but I train on most of it and pretty much knew what to expect. By my estimates, the bike course was short, but totally climbing of ~2600 ft more than made up for it. The swim was inteesting, too. The first half took me less than 12 minutes. The return leg (obviously into the current) was more than 20 minutes... ouch! I'll try to get a RR up in the next day or two. Thanks again. Edited by LJR 2008-06-02 11:27 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone!!! I hope all your training & racing is going well this week. I've been feeling a bit out of it and have just been going through the motions for the last couple weeks. I have some things in my life that are really stressing me out, my weekdays are packed and I'm not getting enough sleep, so that might be why I don't feel too into my training. This weekend I have the Camp Pendleton Mud Run with my twin sister, so I'm hoping after that I will feel recharged and able to focus on training for the Oly 6 weeks later. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi peeps. Visited the doc yesterday for my toe. Mainly bursitis, some infection, and possibly some gout. She drained it, squeezed the hell out of it to work stuff out, took samples. I also gave blood and had xrays. Taking antibiotics to hopefully clear up soon, but after just draining it, it feels so much better already. |

Hey Robin - I can totally relate to just not being into it - I'm a bit there too. I signed up for the June challenge to keep me going but I "curse" it under my breath - I sat in the gym parking lot last night for about 5 min debating whether to go in or not. Did, but did not have a stellar session. I can also relate to the learning curve Bryan refers to on balance and consistency. I'm HOPING the weather holds out so I can meet some fellow Tri'ers for a bbq and OWS on Saturday! please oh please rain stay AWAY!!! I'm thinking once I get around some other folks who are doing it that will help. I hope meeting up with your sis and doing the race will help give you some motivation! Take care and hang in there. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm slowly catching up on everything since I've gotten back. I meant to ask everyone - how did you do on your May goals? What's on tap for June? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1) Have fun at my first tri in Napa. 2) Break 1:40 at Napa (things will have to go well - weather, OWS, good bike leg, good pacing, etc.). - This is just an estimate based on my current training. 3) 1 OWS/week 4) 100 miles running, 300 miles cycling, 18000 yds swimming 5) Bay to Breakers in < 56:00 6) Enjoy 4 days of backcountry skiing with Rachel over Memorial weekend (leave the tri training at home!). I did so-so on my goals: 1) accomplished 2) 1:44 - not a bad estimate 3) missed 1 week 4) 114, 194, 13,800 - need more bike and swim time. 5) BtoB in 55:15 - accomplished 6) Didn't ski due to weather, but still had a very enjoyable weekend with Rachel. Okay, so better than I first thought. Welocme back, Donato! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I posted this on the main board, but thought I should post it here as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/05/health/nutrition/05Best.html?_r=3... Interesting article... I especially like this: ![]() “It does seem to me that as a group, athletes are particularly gullible,” said Michael Rennie, a physiologist at the University of Nottingham in England who studies muscle metabolism. The idea that what you eat and when you eat it will make a big difference in your performance and recovery “is wishful thinking,” said Dr. Rennie, a 61-year-old who was a competitive swimmer and also used to play water polo and rugby. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice job to everyone on achieving their goals ![]() My goals for May were: Swimming- 22 hours bicycling- 4 hours Running- 4 hours What I ended up doing: Swimming- 29 hours 3 minutes Bicycling- 4 hours 55 minutes 51 seconds (random, I know) Running- 5 hours 36 minutes 4 seconds (another random one) My goals for June: Swimming- 27 + hours Biking- 5 + hours Running- 5 + hours And (hopefully) an Oly at the end of this month or next month P.S. I don't think athletes are gullible. What you eat can have a HUGE impact on performance! Edited by amyro1234 2008-06-05 2:45 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Enjoyed the article. It's always interesting to me how some studies validate certain theories and others invalidate them. My nutritionist just says what my Aunt Ruth used to say - eat balanced meals, lots of water and fruits/vegees... limit sweets June Goals Swim 5.5 hrs - 2 per week workouts!!!! need to do this! Bike 10 hrs Run 4.5 hrs (already over an hour so hopefully will do more than this!) - continue to increase mph on treadmill, goal of 5.5 mph for 5 min at end of run by end of June. Run outside 1 x per week at least 2 miles each Strength/Core - minimum - 1 strength - 30 min, 1 core 15 min per week These will be tough, we'll see.

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Goals for May: 1) Do all of my assigned trainings, if I need to skip something make plans to switch or make it up. 2) Do at least 1 OWS- want to get in at least 2 before CdA 3) Weight under 190 by end of May. About 4-6 lbs. Want to run Cda at 185lbs or less. Had to go search them out. I did great with following my trainings. the only ones I missed that were not switched were when I was very sick. I missed 2 days, and only short workouts. I got in 2 OWS in May. One last weekend in choppy water so i am feeling better about the swim. Didn't make the weight goal. Just can't seem to stop eating! The only goal for June: Finish IM CDA!!!!! Sub goal is to make the bike cut off! I can do it! I can make that cut off! Have to give myself daily pep talks because everyone around me is worried and I know this will probably be my only IM. As long as there is no wind, I can do it but i am worried about a headwind. They seem to follow me and ruin my downhills! Since I have no power on the uphills, I need all the help I can get! Have one more long ride this weekend, then I am tapering and getting ready to go! I keep finding more things I need! I am trying to be prepared for cooler weather than I am used to! I am in the desert and I am not sure what to expect from Idaho! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, so my goals for May were as follows: Goal #1: Finish (and enjoy) Wildflower Goal #2: Let my knee heal Goal #3: Improve swim times (swim more and work on technique) So let's see.......... Goal #1: DONE!!! Goal #2: Oh God I hope it's over. I'm increasing my distances again, trying to up the volume, stretching, icing, feeling good, times coming down, no pain. Please let it be over!!!! Goal #3: Um, this one kind of fell through the cracks. Scheduling issues have a lot to do with it, but I need to make it a priority. It's hard when I know I have so much room for improvement in biking and running too.
So for June: Goal #1: Mud Run Sunday, my 27th b-day!!! Finish, have fun, and appreciate the milestone that this is for me - one year since I decided it was time to commit to getting in shape and exercising consistently (while floating in Lake San Antonio on my 26th birthday, beer in hand). Goal #2: FOCUS, make a plan, and get 6 weeks of quality training in before my Oly on 7/19.
Happy Friday everyone!!!!!!! Edited by froglegs 2008-06-06 3:17 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like everyone's done pretty well with their May goals. Way to go! Here's what I had put down for my goals: My primary goal for May is to survive and finish IM Lanzarote. Intermediate goals are to not get injured leading up to it and to do a reasonable taper. That and be very active with our mentoring group ![]() Survived and finished IM Lanzarote - check! June goals for me - |
