Morning TAN!  I'm completely freaking out about my Sunday race.  They canceled the HIM the day before and made my start time an hour later.  It also looks like Hanna stalled and isn't hitting until Saturday night.  I'm not sure how that's going to be safe to race on Sunday morning, but right now it's all happening.

I would conjecture that a large number of races along the eastern seaboard scheduled for this weekend will be canceled.

I know - it's the first for a lot of them, like I said, and I know they all worked really hard. My only solace is that it botched the second HIM for stupid old tri-hottie - and he bonked hard-core on his first back in April Yes, I am evil...but this is karma gettin' his a$$ back, for me

Apparently not mine...even though there might not be power and trees down along the course.

Are hurricanes getting more frequent?  Is this a dumb question?

No, they're not. Not a dumb question.

Just the awareness and paranoia have quadrupled since Katrina hit.

My hometown got beat up pretty hard by Gustav though. Same for Baton Rouge.

Hey cullen!  As far as hurricanes getting more frequent it's hard to say - some scientists say yes, others say we don't have long enough records to detect trends versus naturally -occurring patterns.

Yeah, but those are areas of the country that are ALWAYS in the path of destruction. Reston, VA? Not so much. Williamsburg/VA Beach, moreso, because they are right on the coast. Hurrican Isabelle did a number on VA Beach. But nothing like Florida, or the Gulf Coast.

Isabel was pretty bad for Richmond, too.  Gaston was even worse.  Not sure what Hanna's going to bring us, but it should be interesting.

Yes, but every now and then, a storm keeps its strength once it makes the early turn northward. Then you get the not-too-often Atlantic Coast hurricane.

<--- went to college for this stuff, sort of.

WWTD: If I do my race on Sunday, do I take my road bike instead of the tri bike since I am much better at bike handling with the road bike and the roads will probably be pretty wet?

It's an Olympic distance if that helps.

I'd go with whatever you're more comfortable on. Heck, if it wasn't an Oly on Sunday, I'd take my dang hybrid and just suck up being really slow.

In sketchy conditions, I would DEFINITELY go with the bike I felt more comfortable handling.
