Wouldn't the weights and the swim be rough on the shoulder? Or is that all part of the rehab? |

Veteran 263 New Lenox, IL | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - FULL!!!!! Got out today for a SHORT run. The goal when I started was to run for at least a mile before I stopped. It didn't take long before I realized that wasn't going to happen. Forced my self to run the half mile then walked back home the other half. I'm going to hold this distance for the coming week then add more run distance until I can make the entire mile. That should take a couple of weeks. Thanks everyone for the kind words about yesterdays ride. I ride a LOT slower than all of you so I have less wind chill factor than you guys. I also had on neoprene over boots to keep my feet warm, they work really well. And I wear a wind blocking jacket and tight pants that keep my legs warm, I found out last year with my motorcycle that at 30* they work up to 60 MPH. As you can tell I do anything possible to avoid the treadmill and trainer, sometimes its not possible but I hate those things. |

Fortunately I was discharged from PT last week. But, I will have to start with very light weights. Hopefully all will start off well. I do think you are right, this is a stretch jumping into my 'healthy early season distances'. I have been in such a rut that I need to begin to force myself out of it. My PT person did give me a brief plan to start getting back into weights, too. Here I go....

CoachH - 2009-01-03 7:11 AM tripletmom01 - 2009-01-02 7:40 PM Polly- Its really pretty simple For your next run....do a real easy warm up run for ten minutes. ( I am assuming you have a HR monitor?) hit the lap button or resart your watch ( you dont want the WU to be included in the test results) Run a hard pace...something you can hold but couldnt go much harder for 20-30 minutes. Your ave HR is your LT. Get me your LT and I will determine your zones for you walk in the park right? These are are your run zones..probaly the most important. We can get bike zones too if you want ( they will likely be different inside and out though) Is it possible to do your cycling zones while spinning.... as in on a spin bike or trainer?? yes.. I can give you the protocal if you like |

I didn't even know how to swim with my face in the water (much less swim at all) and was scared to death of deep water until last December... I did my first tri in June and first OW in August... if I can do it, I know you can too Also, try to find a swim instructor to help... believe it or not, I learned how to swim at a master's class (and I wasn't the only one learning!!) |

Thats a lot of weights......do you like lifting?? more then Ive done in that past three years I dont find I benefit in my racing from it and Id rather be biking or running! I am with you there. I have lost a great deal of base core strength from the injury. This will be low weight/high rep. I have no doubt that this amount will only last until March. I did almost everything today with exercise bands. I have not felt this good in a long time. I am still counting the bands as 'weight'. Edited by pjdgreen 2009-01-03 8:48 PM |

Now, when I'm consistent , I can easily go over a mile and basically do an entire 5k with maybe only one "walk" break. |

I ended up at the Docs and I've got bronchitis and a slight pnuemonia! Antibiotics and off work for a week and NO exercise for "at least that - 'til the cough goes away!" (I'm a bit grumpy!) I did my LT test on the bike today! 15 min wu 30 min TT avg hr over last 20 min =161 15 min cd I entered my avg hr in the hr calculator and it came out as follows Cycle 2009-01-05 HR/Pace label Range data label Cumulative Time in zone 1 - Recovery 105 - 133 2 - Extensive Endurance 133 - 143 3 - Intensive Endurance 144 - 150 4 - Sub-Threshold 151 - 160 5a - SuperThreshold 161 - 164 5b - Anaerobic Endurance 165 - 170 5c - Power 171 - 176 Does that seem right? Im stoked because it was 8 beats higher than my last test. Isn't running supposed to be about 10 beats higher? Just curious because my last test is just about the same. Maybe I'll test that this week too. I start teaching my yoga class tommorrow, that will be so good! Ok gotta go, hope everyone had a good day. |

Yes that sounds right... my bike (as of last year was 160 and run was 178 (which is almost 20 beeast higher) so my bike zones are similar to yours. But I also think if you do the bike test outside youwill have higher results. Good job! |

The bronchitisy coughing doesn't really bother me, so as soon as the Antibiotics are finished and I can breath with both lungs I'll be back to work - both professional and sporting!
