Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think my scale is playing with me After my kempo workout this morning I weighed myself and was a little dissapointed to see 168.0 which is .2 up from wednesday and 32% BF which is also up from wednesday. However, I got back on the scale after my shower and it said 167.2 which is .6 down from wednesday and 31% BF which is like .1% down from wednesday. I am at a loss. Either I am really dirty after workouts or my scale has some issues, which would annoy me seeing as how it is new. Either way I think I will start weighing myself after my showers from now on. Maybe the water is magical. Enjoy the day everyone. |

Now the hard part is when to eat which kind. Simple carbs should be eaten during endurance traing and immediately after other wise it should be complex carbs. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi skinnies sorry to have been out the loop but hubby has been hogging the study and internet while he writes grovelling proposals to different funding bodies so that he has money for research for the next few years. It's awful sharing a desk with a left-hander - everything migrates to the 'wrong' side and I can't find things or get all twisted up trying to get to them. What's 'ebonics' please? I did Latin for 6 weeks, our teacher was about 104 and served us Baileys in mouldy mugs. Amo, amas, amat, amabo, amabis, amabat - eek, that was almost 30 years ago and I remember. Stevey, hit the bloke's ailse in Boots or head to the Body Shop for some moisturisers, after-swim shampoo and some conditioner, unless Pam will ship to the UK :-) (don't think your stuff would get through Aussie quarantine though). Last time I was at the hairdresser, I thought she was going to smack me, she was so disgusted at the state of my barnet. She took it as a personal affront that I really didn't care much what it looked like as long as I was able to scrap it back for workouts, I have long given up trying to do much with my baby-fine locks, I have a hairstyle that works and can be prettified when needed. I digress, as usual. There's loads of good stuff out there, the Body Shop has a really nice men's range, and it's not too much effort to slap some on after a shave. A shampoo designed to remove the chlorine will really help with the dryness as will some conditioner. It'll make you smell delicious too. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do your best with everything you have control over. Most people fail to control themselves, and end up only with regrets. They trade minutes of pleasure (i.e. fast food) for days, weeks, months, and years of regret. You must plan ahead to overcome obstacles, rather than trying to “out-cardio” your bad diet. You’ll never succeed that way. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Skinnies! Great news - Ireland won 6 Nations!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! And we won the Grand Slam which and we won the Triple Crown!!!!!!!!!! So as you can imagine 99% of the population is hangover today. Not so great news - with being sick and for thw last 1,5 weeks and simply lazy for the remaining half the week I put on weight A LOT! The laziness was killing me especially that we've had absolutely beautiful weather for the last few days and this inlcudes actual sunshine (guess that's our summer) so I really can't understand why all I wanted to do was sit on the grass in the sun and read my books. Anyway, decided to put a stop to it and hope running with my group tomorrow will help. Also I decided to try working out in the mornings even though I know it's easier for me in the afternoons BUT a lot of times I'm simply tired after all day long in UL and all I wanna do is go home and stretch out on the sofa. With the increasing chance of nice weather as we're approaching proper spring and summer there's bound to be lots of sitting outside (or under a canopy if it's warm but puring buckets) and drinking beer. Calories issues aside for now I'm more likely to chose spending a summer evening with my friends rather than go training. Also if I have to stay late at the University I won't skip my training. And finally, a morning workout supposedly gives you a lot of energy for the day. That sounds reasonable right? So my question is to those who do workout in the mornings or know people who do - what do you eat before you go training? I know that I can't eat anything big 1,5-2hrs before running otherwise I'll die - same thing applies to swimming. SO if I want to go running at say 7.30 does that mean I should eat at 6am? Because if that's the case then I'm not sure I'll be up for it. I'm barely conscious as it is at 7am and all I can consume is coffee. So any ideas or advice? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SteveyD - 2009-03-18 7:39 AM mammaJaS - 2009-03-18 12:29 PM how do you work out body fat %? (curious)Down 2 to 281 after a reasonably poor start to the week countered by xtra gym sessions
well, you could get a hold of some calipers and do some fat grabbing around your arms, middle, etc. or - my preferred method - a body fat analysis scale! so cool. I picked one up at my local X-ess cargo for $29.00. It measures weight, and body fat!!!! Sometimes you can find them online as well, but watch out for shipping charges. They can be pretty pricey - don't know how accurate they are... |

I don't necessarily eat before a morning workout that will be less than an hour or so long. If the timing works out to have breakfast I do, but mostly it doesn't and I don't. For big things (like my half marathon this morning), I have a staggered eating plan, meaning I have a bagel before I leave the house and I have another while waiting for the race to start. |

Well 13miles is not exactly in my range so I think I'm gonna be fine without any breakfast. Just wanted to check something here - do you actually train at 3am? As in at night when I'm turning from side to side snoring happily in my bed? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 3-5am? Good grief! I am constantly amazed and inspired by the dedication of people who can get up at that time of the morning (middle of the night). My physio gets up at 4am to put in 4 hours cycling before coming to work, not to mention the swimming and running. I am in no way a morning person. I can't eat in the morning either, it makes me vomit, even without the exercise. Bizzarely, when I was pregnant, I could do a whole cooked breakfast within minutes of waking. If I'm lucky, I can manage half a banana and some juice and have to have coffee. I'm not doing 13 miles either but I do do an hour weights followed by half and hour running and I feel fine. I sip on some isotonic drink with carbs throughout. I know it's not textbook but it works okay for me. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a big (for me) training weekend and I'm spent. But this time I made sure to eat lots and lots and lots so hopefully I won't be starving tomorrow. In fact, I might go eat some more fruit. Hopefully the scale is kind. I'm still learning to eat enough while trying to still lose weight. |

Same here- my mornings start with coffee and then when I'm trying to be really really good I make myself eat my oatbix but I can only have one "brick" not two as they recommend because that is way beyond my belly's capabilities. Wish my belly was so incapable in the evenings too. |

On the bright side i am in bed at 9 PM every night. Ok my brain just can't get around this idea at all - when I think "3am" and "go training" I get an error message. I remeber I had to go to Dublin twice for conferences and was taking the first morning train - 5:30am- so I had to get up at 4am and this was just painful. And by 2:00pm I was exhausted and barely keeping my eyes open. So fair play and hats off because there's no way I could get up at 3am and go training - winter, summer, whatever - not a chance. I have problems getting up at 6:30 to go swimming at 7:00! And were you alwyas a morning person or did you have to "train" yourself to do that? Also, aren't the coyotes somewhat dangerous? 3am - wow, wow, wow! Well that's definitely a kick in my lazy bum to actually try and get up for the morning swim. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have always been kind of weird sleeper due to military which never believed in 8-5 living. When I was a DI I would get up at 2 AM and that always seemed like "Why did I even go to bed?". I guess Coyotes could be dangerous, but they just look at me and I know they are thinking "WTF is this guy doing at 3 AM?" |

I guess Coyotes could be dangerous, but they just look at me and I know they are thinking "WTF is this guy doing at 3 AM?" Well I like my sleep - especially in winter when it's still dark outside when I have to get up - it's just inhumane! It's also cold or I'm just very cold in winter. Even when myself and my flatmate were studying for our exams and obviously were having a good old all-nighter just before the exam I always had to go to bed for 1-1,5hrs. The reason I asked about the coyotes was because we obviously don't have them (unless you count Irish lads coming back home after Ireland won the Six Nations) and also despite my love for dogs I'm always scared of them when I'm running. But yeah, I think coyotes in your area must think they have group halluciantions ![]() Edited by Cead_Mille_Failte 2009-03-23 8:16 AM |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, last full week of March...I am determined to see the scale budge. Funny thing is, my goal for this month was to lose 2-3 pounds..and I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. WELL...little did I know my body had other plans for me. I did have a 3 pound change..but it was up not down. But now I am back to where I started and I still could technically make my goal for 2 - 3 pounds. So I am taking charge and I WILL be successful this month!!! :-) Thank you for listening. |
