Finally getting back into a stable training mode. Ran 8.6 yesterday and biked tonight. Swim and run tommorow. Feels good to be back to a consistent training plan...just got to get over the soreness of running that far. First time ever going that far, but I know that running a 5k at the end of my next sprint is going to seem easy after putting in this mileage.

great job... i hope you have been progressing to that.. fastest way to injury, is to run big distance is a short amount of time.. i looked at your logs.. not the right way..

an example would be (progression to 5 miles)
mon 4, tues 4.5, wed 4, thur off, fri 3, sat 5, sun 4.5 (this is giving you the volume).. intensity comes later... you need to build the endurance.

Just my opinion..

I had made a deal with myself before I completed my first tri, that I would seriously consider joining a tri club if the race went well and I wanted to continue racing. Well, my first tri is in the books and I am now looking at joining one of the 2 available tri clubs in my city. My question is, what should I be looking for in a tri club? Is anyone in the group a member of a tri club and can offer some pointers on what they like or dislike? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey Mo,
Got knee fluid test results back today and there was some bacteria present, but not a lot. Since the antibiotics are working and my knee is actually looking like a knee, I can start doing swimming and easy biking (whatever that means) . No running until all of the fluid gets out so it doesn't spread again. Should I do walking on my run days this week so I can at least get used to the routine?

Thanks,
Monica

You want a club that is social (have get togethers) promoting community.., 2) will consider new comers (assist in training, even train with, help develop race plan).. will hold clinics for everyone to participate in (especially newbies).. theres tons more..

You will know if the club for you.. because you will blend in very easy(people will be interested in you as well as you the athlete.).. if you have to struggle to be seen or heard.. probably not the club for you.. clickish clubs suck.. they only worry about themselves, not helpful to a newbie....

hope this helps..

Mo, do you think that it would it be unreasonable for me to inquire if I can try out a couple of the group sessions without committing to a membership to see how I fit in?

Actually... find out when there have group workouts. and go to it.. Of course find the workout that suit you. Try both clubs and if there have socials attend them.. make a decision from attending various events

That's awesome news.. walking is great to do as a cross train.. do what you can..

easy bike => easy paced riding.. C pace.. no stress.. 14 to 16 mph..

Hey Mo,
Since my knee acts up after about 30 minutes on the bike, is it OK to do 30' in the morning and another 30' in the afternoon/evening to get some of the volume in?

Monica..
When you say act up? does it mean hurt? or what? because it hurts.. you should stop..

if you feel you can.. sure.. but be honest with yourself.. don't try to be superwoman..

i say this because.... i'd much rather sit out for a week to heal, than to not fully heal and risk a bigger injury.. would U?

i don't know your limits so i can't tell what to do.. but as your mentor your health is first on things of importance..

SO, with that said.. don't do anything stressful for about a week.. you won't loose much. if you feel you need to do something.. walk and upper body stuff.. and swimming.. just my opinion of course..

i know i said do easy spinning.. but your knee isn't liking that at the moment.

I hope everyone's training is going well. I had strep throat last week. Wierd, I ran Tuesday night fine, woke up Wednesday went to work, made my speech at the company's monthly town hall meeting, and right after went home with a 103 fever. Woke up Thursday to not able to speak, went to the doctor got a shot of liquid penicilin, and was fine by Friday.

Pretty wild week, that finally let me get back to training this evening.

Hey Mo,
Got MD clearance to begin running and other activities as long as they don't bother knee. Just to be on the safe side, I will probably do some walk/runs first to see how the knee reacts to that activity.

I am in for the challenge.

I ran a 5k race this morning, and went 7 minutes faster than I did in March. Felt good, and gave me some confidence going into the next tri.
