Liking the new rules that went out on facebook.  No bricks for those who put a foot down anywhere on the bike course, other than at aid stations.

I assume if you had a mechanical stopping to fix it would not DQ you from brick-eligibility.  So if you get really really tired, make sure to fiddle with your chain while you rest.

As my old college basketball coach used to say, "It ain't cheating if you don't get caught...."

So, just don't put a foot down anywhere a camera might catch you.

How do you police this?  Does it have to be caught on camera, or a volunteer ratting out someone?  I might have to start working on my zigzagging just in case.

Also, do you know what the nutrition will be for the bike course?  Thanks

After futzing around for weeks, I finally decided to sign up for the 70.  I actually wanted to do the 100, but didn't want to hurt FL training too much (and am considering doing the Chessieman AV the next week), and the wife was nagging a bit....

See all you fools there.

Good for you.  However, i?n 2008 after the ??S???M???? ?h?a?l?f??????????????? I was in no shape to do anything one week later, let alone swim 2.4 and bike 112.  You may want to reconsider the C-Man AV.  You will be sore after this race.  I've done two IM's and still say I was more trashed after SM than those longer distances.

Spy satellites.

Hammer products on course.  Gels, HEED, Endurolytes, water.  Additional goodies on run course.

PennState - 2010-08-25 4:37 PM So what is this 'ride up the right side' strategy thing? Please explain?

The Wall has a worse surface than any street in Baltimore. Its like riding cobles with a 31% slope. The right side has the better surface. The closer to the curb the smoother it is.

I took the left side and it wasn't long before my front wheel dropped into a crack and I spun out with the rear.  The bike just stopped.  No excuse, I wasn't going to make it anyway but I can at least verify that the left wasn't very friendly in terms of surface smoothness.

Glad to see you pulled the trigger Josh!  And you guys have been married for what, 10 days?  And you're already letting her get away with nagging????

What you'll look like 1 week later is entirely dependent on the base you have, imho, and on how hard you race Savageman.  I'm not going to say you'll feel like a million bucks, but it might turn into a pretty epic 7 day training block for you.  And although there's no such thing as an easy 112 miles, it's not like Chessieman's bike course will punish you and put you in a world of hurt if you're not fully tapered... you'll just be slower.

Wheels up for me at 8:30 AM from the Nature Center.  Planning to ride the HIM and Oly bike courses, with the option to bail on the out and back part of the course and just add the oly course loop portion onto the HIM ride.

Wave if you see me.  Any Baltimore area peeps want to carpool?

SM website has the Oly sold out...glad it did sooner rather than later as the temptation was getting to me...maybe next year I'll make it a complete weekend.

As a result, I would like to volunteer at one of the aid stations.  Kyle, I have a bloke that is doing the half with me (not a BTer) and will help volunteer.  How do we go about getting into the same aid station?  Any other takers to join us?

Go to http://www.savagemantri.org/volunteers.html

In the Club Affiliation dropdown, choose BeginnerTriathlete.com

Select the volunteer roles and days you are willing for.  For run aid station, choose Run Support.  Maybe add to the comments section that you wish to be assigned with your friend.

You will be contacted by a volunteer coordinator.

Also, in the volunteer form, if you are a participant as well be sure to enter your registration confirmation number, and the levels to reach for the 3 Champion fundraising incentive levels will be reduced by $25, $25, and $50.

The SavageMan roads are positively smooth.

Except for Spring Lick, and even that is getting kind of nice now that the chip seal has ground in nicely.

The broken up stretch of Westernport Rd has been completely repaved for us.  1.2 miles of brand new tarmac.  All for us.  Say thank you to Garrett County Roads Dept when you see them.

Can you get them to run a street sweeper on Spring Lick?

They sweep the entire course before race week.  But will pay special attention to Spring Lick.

I was just coming here to report the newly paved section on Big Savage Mountain... it is SLICK!!!!

Thanks GC highway peeps, and thanks Kyle for the obvious good relationship you have with the locals (things like getting bad sections of rode re-paved are definitely the extra-mile type stuff among race directors I've seen).

Although it is now paved, there are 3 or 4 strips about 12 inches wide and an inch deep running all the way across the road.  All but one are on slow sections so not a problem.  The one that is on a descent could be bunny hopped by those who feel good about it, otherwise I'd recommend slowing down to avoid the potential for a pinch flat (a machine recently cut it out and it has a 90 degree lip).

1 for 2 on the wall today... my sh*tty bike handling skills meant I drifted left and then got myself in a jam and couldn't make the turn back to the right given the slope/potholes... and came to a screeching halt (went from 2mph to 0mph)  Second attempt I made sure to hit it with a higher cadence and it was almost too easy going up the right side.
