A bit "cool" here this morning. low 60's with lower humidity. The same thing happened last year 2-3 weeks out from Augusta. I also remember a little rain coming thru the night before so it was overcast til mid-way thru the bike. Just hope the wind is down for the last 15 back into T2.

PS...everyone, look for us around the expo and Marriott in our team Sports Beans gear. We have a few teammate doing the race this year so we'll all be decked out.

My wife did the 5K the day before and it was cool and a little rainy. Love to have it be nice and overcast during the run. It is steaming hot down here. 80's would feel like an artic blast.

Hey folks. I got two questions for the group. Has anyone gotten any race info yet? I was wondering when, or if, i'll get anything beforehand, other that what i'll get at registration/expo?

Second question, since this will be my first Augusta race, how does the bottle exchange work? Do the riders stop and refill their bottles, or do they hand you bottle while in motion on the bike and you drop your empty? I assume the empty you drop is thrown away. Do we need to provide a bottle to be taken to the exchange point?

Just looking for some help.

Thanks

Jerry

i carry disposal bottles on the bike. you pick up new and there is a "legal" spot where u can throw the empties. pick the new ones up off the people handing them out and put on your bike. no need to stop unless your clumsy like me...lol

Practice bottle exchange before the race please.  Have someone stand on the street and hand bottles to you.  Figure out what speed you feel comfortable at when grabbing a bottle.  You don't want to crash trying to grab the bottle or cause someone else to crash because you swerve or drop the bottle and they run over it.  Bottle exchange is my least favorite area on the bike portion.

The River is staying between 70 and 72 degrees but the current is not as fast as it was last year at this time.  The Corps is not releasing as much from the Dam.  Don't worry though, it will still be a fast swim!  We have a group swimming the course tomorrow at 6:30 and the Augusta Chronicle is sending a photographer out to do a lead up story on the Ironman!  All are welcome.

Anybody gotten any pre-race info (wave start times, logistics, etc), or will that just be available at registrations, or will it be posted on the website, or via email?

Just curious how this is typically done?

Start times are usually announced by now...I have no idea why it is taking them so long!

Not sure why we dont have wave start times yet. The bottles you get at the exchange points are just disposable bottles of water and gatorade like you would get at a gas station. You refill your own bottles with these. then toss empty.

Newbie question:  Are the bottle exchanges all on the right side of the course?  Is there a way to avoid the people slowing down for their refills?

Why is it that all of the nutty details are crowding my brain during Taper?  Just when I think I'm all set....

I was looking at the particpants list and freaked when I didn't see my name.  Then I noticed it has not been updated since August 10th and I signed up on August 11th.

I heard that since the water level is so low and there is very little flow we can expect a little help from the folks operating the dam.  This may affect the water temp. but I don't know.

i carry bottles that i can just toss. not my good thermal ones. i freeze my bottles the night b4 so they stay somewhat cold on the ride. i find it a pain to refill. i have a insulated bag i leave in transition for my frozen bottles for the run. it works well. i actually had cold/frozen drinks for the run in fl. (90 degree heat) and the exchange is on the right side of the road. most people, if they stop, pull out of the way.

and worrying about this stuff is all part of being excited! i dream that i can't find my bike! lol

Thanks!  I plan to carry disposable bottle, too...frozen before the race.  I'll hope that keeping to the left will keep me out of the way for the bike water station activity.

Taper madness...it hasn't entered my dreams yet...yikes.
