Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread I did this race this year. Considering it again for 2010. It was a great course. Rolling bike course, pancake flat run course. The only downside for me was the long trek to transition before/after the race. I know they had busses, but even that was organized chaos. The down river swim sure is nice though! |

Most likely you will need to get a hotel in Augusta. Bike check in is on Sat- you have to check your bike the day before the race so that makes driving in the morning of a little difficult. Also, the drive from Atlanta can be anywhere from 2-2.5 hours, depending on construction. I wouldn't recommend doing this. |

Since the swim is my achilles heel, I think that the river swim will help. I'm getting pumped!! If the swim is your Achilles heel, you're going to be in love with Augusta. I did the race last year and the swim was unbelievably fast with the current and wetsuits. I just kept smiling, and felt like I was cheating. They managed to space the waves out in a reasonable manner too, so I only got kicked in the face once or twice : ) The bike and the run are fast as well, although be prepared for a few hills on the bike (it's not as pancake flat as you might be led to believe). A lot of the downhill sections are cut short with turns and stops. But best of luck with your training! |

If I can squeeze a few mins off the run also, i'd like to go somewhere around 5:15. The Marriott is your best bet for Hotel options, makes everything stupid easy. $135 a night? No need to worry. I can't count the number of times I swam the course and no sign of any alligator. There is plenty of food in the river so there are no starving alligators that I think would be desparate enough to go after a human. Come race day there will be so much activities in the water any that might be there will be gone.
