LostSheep - 2011-01-15 6:42 PM I feel like someone just ran over me with a truck.

Went out and ran 13.78 this morning (Mercedes Course +1 loop around Railroad Park) and I haven't been this sore in a LONG TIME!

I fought the "heavy leg syndrome" the entire time. I noticed I was fast at the beginning, started severely overheating by mile 4, shed layers, kept running, watered at 4, 7.7mi & 12, gu @ 7.7 & 12 and still felt dead.

Pre race was a G2, 2 mini cliff bars, & a protein shake.

Now, my achilles are tight, my hips are tight, and for whatever reason my abs are sore.

Any thoughts on why this one could've been so dismal?

You pushed too hard.  The abs hurting are from arm rotation trying to keep your legs moving.

BTW, are they having pre-Mercedes runs every weekend now?  I don't get those notifications, so never know when they are going off.

Thanks for that. I'll take it easier today...

As for the Mercedes Trial runs, yea, they started and sadly, you've missed 2 (but so have I).
1/30 - 6:30am from Boutwell is the last one left.

titeloops - 2011-01-16 6:33 AM So trying to shake a cold and this might have been a bad idea. But it was above freezing yesterday for the 1st time in like 2 weeks. High of 50 and it felt like a heat wave. A buddy called and wanted to get outside for a ride. I did to. The ride was going great until about mile 14 when I hit an icy spot in the road. Went down pretty hard. Luckily I sort of felt it developing and was able to basically roll over. My butt is black and blue today. My friend was laughing his azz off. Must have been a funny sight.

Kick your friend in a$$ and give him a bruise. ;-)

Glad you're ok, though!

sand101 - 2011-01-14 12:16 PM Funny enough I just got an email today with a great article about bilateral breathing.  I personally don't agree with the assertion that it makes your stroke symmetrical, but the skill set is useful for the other reasons they discuss.

And who knows - you may like it once you try it out.

' I think bilateral breathing is a nice skill to have, but it's way over rated.

Most of the top swimmers I know only breath on one side and could care less about all the reasons why you need to be able to do both. They just concentrate on swimming.

I breath best on the right side so i will always line up way on the left, that way when I breath I see people to my right and I know I'm on the right path, and will rarely sight until I'm away from the pack

It's funny- when I learned how to swim a few years ago, I learned by breathing on both sides, so I've never thought of it as a issue.  My respiration rate determines on which stroke I breathe, but when I am swimming faster, it's about every third stroke.  I guess I'm lucky I learned that way.

By the way, I have a nice sore spot on my foot from my speed training fins from Saturday's swim.  Got a nice, 3/4" long blister on the top of my foot and tore it open.  Ouch!

[rant] This week officially sucked. I was trying to get back on schedule but unfortunately as you can see from my logs, that didn't happen at all.  I'm in the process of finishing my basement and it's really starting to drag on.  I've been up late every night for the last week or two working on things so I'm too tired to get up in the morning to workout.  My in-laws were up this weekend to help and we got a lot of work done but I didn't have a chance to get out and run.  I thought it would be a good idea to work on this over the winter because it wouldn't screw up my training when the weather gets better.  I could probably manage to balance both if my wife would stop planning other things for us to do at the same time.  Apparently we need to catch up with some friends so we're going out to dinner twice this week! Since the HM fell out I signed up for a competitive 10k on Feb 26th.  PR'd this race lace year so I still have my run focus training but will back off from 5x per to 4x and get the bike and swim started .

Went for a run yesterday with my wife and a friend, did an easy 8.9 mi which was my longest run since Christmas and my thighs are sore todayTongue out.  Amazing how quickly things can be lost!

Your lucky your arms not in a sling.  It's one thing to laugh at someone who falls over at a stop light(been there), but going down while riding is serious.  Your a better man than I.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks to all for your well wishes. To be fair to my buddy, we were approaching a stop sign and I was going about 3 mph. Landed squarely on the side of my azz. I laughed at myself as well.  Not laughing today though, my butt hurts.

I'm always amazed how much things seem to happen all at once,   and while I"m not that social of a person, there is always something that people expect me to attend.
Hope you get it all worked out.    Since I have 2 evening dinners to attend also  this week

My workouts are a tad bit lopsided at the moment.  The run volume is more than I am used to and is pushing everything else aside at the moment.  Not that I care much - the running is evidently what I want to do at the moment.  Go with the flow.  I'm getting in close to an hour a day average - good enough for me.

had a decent run week last week..no swim but at least I"m back on the bike.  I"ve been doing a nice slow build since thanksgiving with running so I"m really happy with that.

Best is I gave away my nicer saddle on my road bike a year or so ago since I would never ride it, and just put the stock on back on.. Now that I"m using the road bike on rollers that seat sucks!!!   my new one from cobb cycling just arrived today, it comes with a 6month return policy so I"ll have to see if I like it

really??    that makes me feel better, I was sure but the 6 month trial sounded great, and it's almost local to me.  I know a few people that have been fitted by Cobb.

I know of one person who's tried a cobb saddle and not like it.  But his ZR1 is a bit "slow off the line" if you know what I mean.

Could someone explain to me why I'm such a wuss?

I can get up at "butt crack :30" to travel elsewhere to swim and run. Not a problem. I look forward to it. Yet, I can't get up to go downstairs to the garage to get on the bike 2x per week. Does this make ANY sense at all?

It's almost like I'm neglecting my bike and just don't care... which I really don't WANT to do....

Too funny, it really does make sense... it's a mindset.  It's easier to set your mind to going to the gym than it is having the dicipline to go downstairs to work out.  I do it, but it takes more willpower.

I totally understand... I think when you have three different sports there is also one that is going to be the bastard half breed so to speak.

I like running, it's easy where I live to just toss on my shoes and go.
I enjoy swimming, I just dont' go to the gym enough.
I'll fold laundry and scrub the toliet before I get on my bike.

Now since I got my old road bike out and put it on my rollers I'm getting better, But when I train at home I'm thinking of all the other things that I also need to do.  I can literally see where I need to put touch up paint, a spot on the carpet I should shampoo, that pile of dirty laundry. etc..  So it's tougher for me mentally to do.

But I feel ya...

Are you a 'bike in front of the TV' sort of person?  It seems to help me if I have a couple episodes of Top Gear (or Glee!) that I want to watch or a movie I want to see.  I make a deal with myself that I'll watch them if I'm on the bike.

I bike infront of the TV too, and it's my opportunity to watch the movies in the netflix queue that the wife doesn't care for.

Yet, I don't do it.

Mon - swim, Tues - run, Wed - ride, Thurs - run, Fri - Swim, Sat - Run, Sun - Ride. It should go that way, yet I manage to talk myself out of the rides or come up with what I think are good excuses.

Man I'm a bum!
