Back from the Disney Marathon weekend. What a great race. Tried to take it easy on the 1/2 marathon to have energy for the full. Everything worked great, was able to pick up the pace for the last 6 miles, last 3 were just under 10 min pace.

If you don't mind getting up early would recomend the race.

mareelouise - 2012-01-08 4:48 PM Ooh, can I join in too! I'm the same, had a mentor group and enjoyed that- I'd love some support in staying consistent throughout 2012. I am in Melbourne Australia- so training is not that hard at the moment- it's usually pretty warm. I just did my first ocean swim on the weekend- and really enjoyed it! And I do a couple of sprint triathlons each season (have been doing that for the last 3 years). ANd I have my first Oly coming up in October- so need to be consistent towards that. Anyway, hope I am able to join. Cheers Maree

Welcome to the group Maree!

Sounds like you "ran your race"! Well done! We hit 58deg today in St Louis... Average temp for his time of year is 38f lol with it so nice I went of a park for my 4 miler today... Felt REALLY strong and kind of got "lost" in my run... Hit the 4 mile mark and checked my gps... 35:05 all miles under 9 min, not as cool as lumber dad neg splits at the end of his Mary :-) happy Tim nonetheless!! Looks like cold front hits tomorrow or Thursday... Snow by the weekend... Really looking forward to spring!

Sounds like a great Mary. Knocked down 2000 in the kiddy pool today but fell asleep getting my baby girl to go to sleep. Ha, by the time I woke up it was too late for me to run if I want to sleep tonight.

Way to go - congrats! Disney is right in my back yard and every once in a while I think running Goofy would be a good idea and then I realize - no it wouldn't

Went to the pool this am, first morning swim since before xmas (and only 3d swim in 3 weeks).  Felt great to be back at it!

Ann-Marie,

You have some great weather for January. With a snow storm comming in tonight and a high of 19 tomorrow I am already missing Orlando.

Now my wife (who has never ran before), wants to do a Disney 1/2 marathon. She is thinking the Tinkerbell or Princess.

Hey, guys! Great job with the training and races!!

I'm still doing the swimming. I am happy to report that it is getting a bit easier. Each swim session the breathing gets easier and my form improves for a few minutes, lol! I can at least achieve good form. Holding it for long periods of time is what I'm aiming for now because I do notice that when the form is good, the swimming is MUCH easier.

Last night I took part in a great spin class. Hard work and my quads are feeling it this morning! Afterwards I took to the outdoors for a 2.5 mile run with hills. It felt really good. Aside from the tightness in my legs from the spin class they felt strong, the lungs felt big, and my core relaxed. Still need to add more running miles though into the week. It stinks that I'm going to have to start running in the morning so I won't take more time away from the family. The long bike rides on Saturdays push the limits.

This weekend is going to be killer. Saturday Xterra course ride again, Sunday I'll be participating in a GEAR adventure race (navigating, mountain biking, and running with a partner) in the morning, then I have my first women's league soccer game in the evening. OUCH.

Hope you all are having a good week!

1500ish meters tonight in swim. It's getting a tad easier every time. We have a super sprint triathlon on the 22nd. If I do well on that swim (200M, which I panicked on last time!), I'm signing up for the Xterra race.

Hope you have a lovely day!

Way to get after it Blanda!! Nice hard swim yesterday at 2400 yards... 400 wu, 5x100 on 1:40, 10x50 on :50, another 5 x 100 on 1:40, 3x100IM on 2:15 (I really need to bump that down... But I don't wanna!!!), 200 cd. Took the pooches for a 2 mile "pull" later last night, my "fast" pace Tues clearly took its toll on me, the 2 miler fell directly into "recovery" pace. Planning a 4 miler this afternoon but its snowing with a wind chill of 5... Maybe the treadmill will have to do the trick today. Happy Thursday friends!

Training this weekend was hard, and fun!

Xterra course ride: I rode all the hills this time, yay! I was down to one hill that is like a wall. I got half way up last ride, then had to walk the rest of the way. This time rode the whole thing out! Drop into the muddy hills about half way, but my teammate/friend and I decided not to go all the way because we knew we'd have to haul our bikes and trudge for at least 2 more hours. Have a soccer game tonight, we didn't want to that to hurt our performance. We must always have juice to perform well for our team. Great practice on the hills and bike handling in the mountains.

GEAR Adventure race: Holy smokes. Hard stuff right there. Run/bike/run/bike/run. Through slippery, hilly, rooty, rock, jungle. Even had to swim out to a rock in the ocean in rough, choppy, deep waters. I did it in my shoes and bike helmet, lol! SO proud of myself. Just plunged in, no fear. Yay swim team training! We were squeezing through trees, sword grass, running up 45 degree rocky inclines. Totally the best training I can get for Xterra.

Soccer: I felt good even after the GEAR race. I credit the Endurox and coconut water I slammed after both the bike ride and GEAR race.

I'm tired.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Killing it B!!! Hooked up with a new running group today! Got the invite last night to join them for just under 7 miles, just so happened to be my "long" day... Had a great time! 6.8 in an 1.11, comes put to a nice 10.5ish pace per mile. Nice cold run with new friends... Kinda nice not running alone :-)

Its great having a group to run with. We have one in town that I have done a few runs with, I run early mornings so just don't match up very well.

Thx for the pep talk y'all. Sat did a light 2 mi pre race run. Because of the back issue in dec I missed some important runs so I opted to just do the half. Weather conditions were great clear blue with a 40 degree gun temp. In the past I have used the run ten walk one, taking that for what it is worth I have been content with my times. This year I just kept running. Took a small walk around mile ten which I regret, I felt my momentum slow mentally. Watching the clock I pushed the last two miles hard and shaved over 5 min off my PR. I finished 2:19:34 off my watch, which should be pretty close to correct time. I started with a 10:45 pace and by mile 9 I was averaging 10:13. I finished 10:21. Not the best but I am happy. I did beat the 1st place woman; oh wait she did the full- ha. then it was off to my usual post race meal, a good ol whataburger. For you non Texican or an adjacent state it is about the best fast food burger.

Yes. It was sick! They are some well oiled machines even if they are not from west Africa. Ha. Seriously, the World will have some competition in London by some great Americans. Ryan Hall is crazy. Often called the Tebow of running is really seem so be a good guy. A lot shorter than I thought.

Looking good, guys!

Tuesday I got in 9 miles on the bike that goes nowhere at the gym, then hopped on the treadmill for a solid 3 miles.

Tonight was swim team. Good 500M warm up. I'm finding that around 250 I get to where I'm not panicked and hicuppy. It was IM and Medly relay night. I like IM's even though I stink at flies. Instructor lets me do one armed ones because I think it hurts his feelings to watch me do full ones. Quite the hot mess at those. Still looking like a drunk swimmer on my back, but I'm staying afloat a lot better.

Tomorrow I hope to get a run in before another night of swim team. This Saturday we're doing the Xterra bike course again on Saturday, and on Sunday will be my 2nd super sprint triathlon.

Have a great day!

LOL, when we do IMs at my masters swim, the coach let's the nonswimmers (read me) substitute freestyle for fly.  I guess he doesn't like to get his feelings hurt either

Got a 5 mile run in last night and 1900 yd swim (no fly) in this am.  Slowly getting back into the groove. HOwever, i've yet to add the bike back in.  in fact, i haven't been on my bike since 11/13 (my HIM). That can't be good.
