I'm glad I'm staying in 30-34 for one more year

I can't believe all of you are getting nice tri bikes this year....leaving me behind in the dust with my modest little roadie.  Ah, well.  Maybe one day I'll join you all.

Start a small sweatshop with your gaggle of kiddies.

water just came out of my nose. LOL.

If only my husband would have consented to having a fifth baby...I would put them to work and I'd really be rolling in the dough.

felt like it for a while...lol.  My husband did the right thing by getting the snip snip.  No way I could handle a fifth.  THAT would just be insane.

Put me down as another one without a tri bike. I did IMAZ on a $650 road bike from REI with tiagra components and it got the job done. I am lusting after this bike though. I test rode it back in September and fell in love. Won't be able to get it (or maybe a Willier TT bike) until 2013 most likely though.

Pretty bike.

I have a shiny new bike (or rather a shiny year old bike with 8,000 miles on it) and its not about the bike, its about the engine (although new toys are always fun).

Heading out of work early.  Need to clean the house, start cooking and get to the YMCA for an 1:16 of water running.  I have no idea how I'm going to keep my mind occupied for that long.

Tomorrow is more cooking, a 3000 yard swim and 3:42 on the trainer.  So exciting.  Just hoping to be able to fit everything in.

Agree it's not about the bike.  That said my bike is a POS that probably isn't a good fit and I want off it ASAP.

Okay I need some new tires.  If you had to run the same pair for training and racing what would you go with?

My race tires are the Continental Grand Prix 4000s. I tend to train on Gatorskins since the roads up here in the Bay Area can be pretty rough, but when I bought the race tires the guy at my LBS said that he recommends them both as training and racing tires.

Competitive Cyclist has Michelin Pro 3's on sale for $30 right now (half price). FYI

That said, I ride on Armadillos due to the high number of goat heads out here. No way could I ride on regular race tires, I'd flat every time out.

I ride Michelin Pro 3's and love them!  $30 is a steal!

What are goat heads again?  I think we covered this last time, but I can't remember.

I'm actually in San Francisco proper. I work downtown and live out on the west side of the city near Baker Beach and the GG bridge.

I was thinking the same thing.  Why 1:16 run and 3:42 bike Kelly.  I'd have to round up and end on a zero.

Training question...

When you are doing base training (z1 -z2), should you take a recover week?  I would think not but thought I would ask before I overtrain and get injured in the off-season.

G'day all,

Well I've had a pretty tough week training wise this week, been out late every night for Christmas functions, which combined with early starts have left me increasingly tired in the run into Christmas. So much so, that I ended up giving myself Friday off. So I am a little down on what I wanted for the week.

However I did have a great ride this morning, 2 hours out in the sun cruising through the country side is good for re charging the batteries!

My Tri present for myself was a new set of tyres for the bike, guaranteed no punctures for years according to the guy in the LBS, I'm not sure about that tho.

Hope everyone has a good Christmas, I'm looking forward to a few days down at the beach myself and hopefully catching some fish before getting back to the office in the new year.

I would say yes, you should be doing a cut back/recover week. Proper rest is a really important part of getting fitter.

But don't just take my word for it, I've still got lots to learn myself, I'm sure some more experienced members than me will chime in.
