Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats Dewayne! It was pretty windy this weekend! How was the bike down there on the coast? Good Luck Jason! Can't wait to hear about both of your races. I'm back from an AMAZING weekend with Team Red, White and Blue. Watching 15 Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan discover triathlons was incredible. It was a blessing to be a part of such an incredible weekend/camp. I'll try to write up a report and post it in my blog. Also ran the Austin 10/20 today. Did pretty well considering all that we did this weekend. One of things that I did this weekend was blow my power numbers through the roof! My NP for a 1:49 ride was 9 watts below my FTP. Granted I was riding in Austin and with 2 professional female triathlete's (both whose names are Jessica) on their recovery ride. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Republic of Texas Race Report: Drove into Corpus Christi Friday around 5 PM. As soon as we got to packet pickup at the Omni we started hearing rumors that the swim leg might be cancelled. My gf and I drove down to the Transition/Swim start area and it was extremely choppy with 30+ MPH winds. No way you could control a kayak under those conditions. Saturday morning the winds were still in the 20's. Race start was at 8 AM. At 7:15 after consultation with the Coast Guard and the local lifeguard association the swim was officially cancelled. The event was turned into a bike/run. We were turned loose time trial style, every 8 seconds. The first five and a half miles were into the teeth of the wind. My avg was 14.9 mph going south. Ahh but to turn around and fly back was freakin awesome. I hit 30 once going north. T2? went okay, took a few seconds to remove the Garmin 705 from the bike and carry it with me. Don't think I'll do that again. It took about a half mile to get my legs "transitioned" into running. I passed a few guys on the 2 mile run checking out ages marked on the calves and they were all in the 30's. I passed one guy and told him "don't worry I'm 54" and he replied "I want to be like you when I'm 54". haha, made my day. I ended up 36th overall out of 208 and 2nd in my AG. I'm proud of the result but I know it wouldn't have happened if there had been a swim. My GF and I volunteered to help in Transition on Sunday. What a madhouse. Same thing, swim cancelled and a TT start. After we'd released around 500 athletes the bikeless racks started blowing over. That wind was brutal. James Bonney kicked major butt on the half distance. I heard he was dropping the scooter following him, not sure about that but he was smoking fast on the downwind. My friend Casey won his age group on the Oly so we stuck around to see him receive his award Sunday before the 3 hour drive home. things I learned or need: 1. Saw a gal with a miners type light on her forehead in transition early sunday. What a great way find everything you need in your transition bag. 2. Want to find an inexpensive watch that lets me know my running pace. 3. Put socks in transition bag in case there's not a swim!!! 4. Electrical tape. Had 2 or 3 people asking me if I had tape. One guy's ratchet on his bike shoe had broken. 5. A real transition bag. What a pain it was to carry a huge gym bag while pushing your bike a half mile to transition. Backpack style preferred to free up hands. 6. I could sure use some sponsors!!!! I'm sure I'll think of more. 4 months and 16 days to Tri Rock Austin. p.s. one of the coolest things was on Friday when headed up to CC. We were north of Kingsville and the Blue Angels went by us in Diamond formation!!!! hot dang!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Awesome Dewayne!! Way to go! I'm back to my usual work routine. Yesterday was a day of rest for me. This was a challenge as I had a hard time not doing any training. Knew I needed it though. Back to my schedule now - 90 min trainer ride this morning and then plan on a run tonight depending on when I'm done with work and meetings. Wishing everyone a good start to their week, Jim |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() awesome catching up reading about the races this weekend! good job to those racers. it was beautiful weather this weekend, compared to heavy rain, and some hail, days before. I went on a long (for me) bike ride, 20 miles. made sure to have a few sips of water about every 10 or 15 min and that seem to really help. the ride before I didn't and my legs really hurt at the end of the ride. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jason-awesome job on a warm day! Get some rest and enjoy your accomplishment. Some exciting news here today. Saw a flier at the pool announcing that Chrissie Wellington will be at our local bookstore on May 21 signing her new book. I'm excited that such a well known athlete is coming to the little town of Fairhope, Alabama. Of course, while she is probably the most well known current professional triathlete I suspect few people outside of the sport know who she is. Pretty easy training day....swim only....what I call a "leg rest" day. Randy |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tough day out there Jason -- when the top pros are ten minutes off you know it's gotta be tough. Way to work through it -- you should be pleased with that effort! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Michael: Fantastic job on your new 5k PB! So motivating to see that kind of improvement. Keep it up! Stu: Nice run! Like that you toss in hill sprints just because. Hills make my rear end twitch just at the sight of them! Bennet: Glad you're enjoying your post race break. Now get back to it! ![]() Dewayne: Woo hoo! Excellant job on 2nd in AG. Glad they made that call on the swim. Sounds dangerous! Rene: Sounds like an amazing weekend and way to crush that bike ride! Jason: Wow! Looks like you had a really good Boston experience. I can't wait to hear the details. Michele: Awesome bike ride and good job recognizing the body's needs and adjusting! Key to successful and healthy training. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been working on my running for a couple relay races coming up. 44 mile one on the 28th of this month, and a 50 mile one in June. No swimming or biking since Xterra, which I miss. I've also been working on improving my overall fitness, strength, and lightening up the frame of mine so it's easier to haul it around. I've discovered something. I turned to multi-sports as something new and enjoyable as I break away from soccer, which can be really hard on my joints. As I've trained for the multi-sports my soccer game has been slowly improving from my weekend warrior performances. My reaction time, endurance, stamina and my speed have returned. Not to my previous competition levels, of course, but I'm kicking butt again thanks to my new hobby! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm MAKING myself take a day off. I had a packed weekend, with two Mud Runs and then short swim/run workout Sunday evening. My body feels tired, but it's soooo nice outside. So, instead, I'm sitting at my computer grading classwork. I don't want to burn out or get injured with my first race less than a month off! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Posting from my phone so it will be somewhat brief. I decided to put it all on the line from the start and see what happened. If you look at the splits you can see that I blew up in the second half. I thought I had a legitimate shot at breaking three hours if conditions were right. Conditions were not right! I guess I just need to find another marathon to take my shot at sub three. Thanks again for all of the support. It wasn't fun while I was doing it but it is fun to have done it. I will be back at some point in time. ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 45 minute morning ride on the trainer done. Didn't have more time ... I think I hit snooze too many times. :-) Got the warrior dash coming up this Saturday and a Sprint triathlon on Sunday. I talked to my racing buddy last night and it looks like we are going to take on the Austin 70.3 late next year or the Galveston 70.3 earlier in the year. We are using this whole season to build a decent base for those. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() d3term1ned - 2012-04-17 8:31 AM Got the warrior dash coming up this Saturday and a Sprint triathlon on Sunday. Wow. You have a busy weekend coming up. Makes me tired to read about it. I did a Warrior Dash once. It was really fun. They held it at a small ski resort by me so, the first mile was straight uphill, then a mile of rambling obstacles, then downhill. Most people were completely gassed after the first mile and shooting hateful glances at the folks who were able to run up the hill :-) The beer tasted really good afterward. -Mark |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Warrior dash is not really that bad ... compared to the tough mudder it was very easy ... wasn't going to do it this year but my wife and some friends of mine wanted to do it. All I know is that its fun and you are right ... the beer after is great! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone-another crazy week at work. Got up early for a treadmill run and hope to get in an easy ride this evening before going to my daughter's HS soccer game. Fortunately, her season is coming to an end with the last game this Saturday. Hope everyone is doing well. Randy |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mind over body:
Long day at work, came home tired, mentally not physically. Went out for my treadmill run and about 5 different times I rationalized why I could stop and call it a day, yet my plan was for a 90 min run. I pushed through this mental block and actually ended up having a great run. I tried visualization eg. the last few miles of a tri when beating a PR as sometimes this helps. In this case, however what really worked for me was the hottie who jumped on the elliptical next to me. Suddenly I had energy and finished strong. |
