Buckshot - 2013-01-04 8:44 AM Hey Monica, happy Friday.

Hi Mark!

Every day is pretty much the same for me - but happy Friday to all the working people!

Are you able to look for work yet?

Nope - still about 4 months away from being able to even look for work.

Well that is good and bad. Enjoy the Chicago Winter! Are you training for anything big?

Ha!  Winter and I don't get along at the best of times... I keep asking Tony if it's possible for him to get transferred to Florida.  So far, it's a no go.  Drat!

No training for anything as we don't have the cashola for race fees.

Okay, it is DEFINITELY time to start pimping Tony out.

How much do you think I could get for him?

Nope - still about 4 months away from being able to even look for legal work.

True, you could find extra "work" for Tony. Think of the income taxes you would save.

Ah, yes. When I had the time, didn't have the money....now I don't have the time and still don't have the money. Well, not much anyway. Winter can get very long, hate that. Good luck trudging through it.

Exactly!  I have all the time in the world right now, but no moolah to do anything.  Oh well, eventually that *should* change once this silly Green Card stuff goes through!

He'll be so impressed to hear that I've found another potential job for him!  He can only go to this other job after dinner though as I'm not allowed in the kitchen.

From a fellow legal immigrant (and now citizen), hang in there. It's a pain of a process. I am actually going through it again (sort of) as I am petitioning my parents for residency.

I don't think it matters how much money they have - he doesn't offer any of these services.

Well... maybe if we're talking Indecent Proposal kind of money.

Yes, it sure as H E L L is a massive pain of a process!!  I hope it's easier for your parents - though I'm pretty sure it's the same painful experience no matter who's applying.

The good news is that they are retired, so no need for work permit. But I'm sure between my paperwork (green card, citizenship), and theirs, we destroyed half of what was left of the rain forest. I think the Xerox lobbying groups is what keeps the process the way it is...

Marilyn, since you hate the environment, you are probably happy about this...

Xerox has GOT to have a hand in this.  For me it was 4 applications all having to be submitted in duplicate which include copies of affidavits, all pages of both of our passports (plus my previous passport as some numbnuts at customs didn't stamp my passport on my trip from Canada to the US when I got here in June), tax returns, employment letters, over 100 photographs, etc., etc., etc.

The trees are crying.

If you do, start the process early. Contact an immigration lawyer (we have a good one) who will advise you on the best way to get through the process. Try to start it months before you intend to move. If we'd have known how long it was going to take or how difficult it would be, we would've been more proactive.

Indeed. It's a matter of paperwork and time.

The thing is, nobody tells you how difficult the process is or how long it takes. Basically when I called the USCIS from London several times I was given VERY BAD information. When I told the lawyers I'd contacted USCIS they literally laughed and said that the people answering the phones work in a call center and aren't actual employees of the government so they have no quality information. That woudl've been nice to know ahead of time.

Maybe your lack of English knowledge had something to do with the length of the process. They do take that into account in your interview. Although I think they make it easier on Spanish speaking immigrants than Canadian speaking ones.

Maybe your lack of English knowledge had something to do with the length of the process. They do take that into account in your interview. Although I think they make it easier on Spanish speaking immigrants than Canadian speaking ones.

Just as long as they don't give me a spelling test.  Apparently the 'Murikans don't like words with the letter 'u' placed where it should be.

Greatest AMEX commercial ever, on an airport billboard:

If you have a green card, you don't need a visa.

From a fellow legal immigrant (and now citizen), hang in there. It's a pain of a process. I am actually going through it again (sort of) as I am petitioning my parents for residency.

Yes, it sure as H E L L is a massive pain of a process!!  I hope it's easier for your parents - though I'm pretty sure it's the same painful experience no matter who's applying.

My wife is not American. If we ever have to move back.... hmmm....

If you do, start the process early. Contact an immigration lawyer (we have a good one) who will advise you on the best way to get through the process. Try to start it months before you intend to move. If we'd have known how long it was going to take or how difficult it would be, we would've been more proactive.

^^  This times eleventy billion.

I'm going to go back and make it correct as I think it's a tad rude to do that "fix'd" thing to other posts.
