lisac957 - 2013-03-04 11:12 AM I've always wanted to be on a jury but never been summoned!

^^^YES! Went through two rounds of questioning in jury box, but it was an animal abuse case (cock fighting) and I maybe felt too strongly?

You called, Cheri?

I iz here

I have your man!!! So pls look for job, home and life here!

I'm still licking my wounds after the recent job rejection up there.
But of course if I run across something up there that fits I'm all over it. Just not as actively looking right now.

What do you want to do?  I have some connections...

Wanna sell newspapers on the side of the highway?  I know a guy..

Wanna work at an all night liquor store?  I know a guy..

Wanna design jet engines?  I know a guy...

The liquor store gig sounds pretty sweet! I would demand bars on the windows though. Safety first.

Joking aside, I'm looking for a job in corporate communications/PR - in a non-consumer goods industry. 80% of my experience is in aviation/aerospace manufacturing, but any manufacturing company I'd likely fit in quickly.

Have you looked at SWA website to see if they have openings?  I Have a good friend over there that may be able to help

Yep - they only have 4 positions open right now that aren't maintenance or internships.
I also applied for a job at United in Corporate Communications (Chicago); no word whatsoever.
My rejection (after interviewing) was from Boeing.
Applied at a manufacturing company in Chicago called Ryerson - that one was an AUTO-reject. Even thought I fit 100% of their criteria.

"Ned... Ryerson. "Needlenose Ned"? "Ned the Head"? C'mon, buddy. Case Western High. I did the whistling belly-button trick at the high school talent show? Bing. Ned Ryerson, got the shingles real bad senior year, almost didn't graduate? Bing, again. Ned Ryerson, I dated your sister Mary Pat a couple of times until you told me not to anymore? Well?"

I thought he sold insurance...

Are you interested in working with a recruiter?  I worked with a firm that was top-notch this fall.  If you want the info, I'll send him an e-mail to introduce you.  They presented some fantastic opportunities to me.

Just found out an old friend succumbed to cancer last night. He had testicular cancer back when we played softball together about 25 years ago when we were in our 20's. He leaves behind a wife and a 9yo daughter and a 30 year old son from a previous marriage.

Cancer....crap man; tenacious bastard....

Thanks all. Dan and I would see each other around town; have a cup of coffee. His daughter was in preschool when I was PTA president, so we'd hang and socialize. Even though we saw each other episodically, we still kept our friendship going. I had thought he was OK back in 2000 or so, but metastasis rears it's ugly vengeance without warning. My Aunt Frances went the same way.

Dammit. Just dammit....

FLY BY HOWDY TAN

5. Jury Duty:  I don't get picked.

Well it appears I am either not smart enough or not nerdy/scientists enough, I did.

Whenever I get summonsed I always remember a scene from "Boston Legal" when Denny Crane lamented that his fate was in the hands of people who were unable to get themselves out of jury duty. I've Googled it, and it seems that it is really hard to do so.. Sounds like it would be a big hassle.

Morning TAN. Time to go out and shovel. Getting a possible 9 inches of snow today. Not fun for a cop dealing with accidents all day.

I bet if you wore a Greenpeace or an NRA shirt to selection it would shorten your time in the box.

I just saw a great pic of her and her sister on FB playing tourist at some river in Taupo.  I'd say that she's probably quite sore, but Ok.

Morning TAN!

Greenpeace or NRA?  Seems to me you can do both:  Get a t-shirt that says "Shave the Whales, or I'll Shoot Ya!"
