Later I have a 2.5hr Z1 trainer ride scheduled. I must find some energy for that though, because right now I'm flagging. Tomorrow is lighter, with just a swim and strength training. Then big brick (7 hours total) on Friday and long run on Saturday. I can see the light at the end of the training block tunnel.

they don't call you the machine for nothing, you can do this!

Not sure it really counts as strenght training but it keeps the streak alive. Will do better today

It absolutely counts!! Last year when I was in Egypt I did this all the time. One exercise (3 sets, 8-10 reps per set) every hour while I was working. It not only helped my strength, but it helped keep me from going stiff and sore while sitting all day and working at a desk (something I rarely do!).

It absolutely counts. And like Gretchen says, it's a really clever way to sneak some strength and mobility stuff into the day when we can't find time for a stand alone workout. Way to keep the streak going.

OK. it counts, I will do that while I am working, it's a great way to break the sitting down all day monotony

Wednesday morning, 40 minute easy run. + stretch/foam roll
Wednesday evening, 30 minute easy trainer ride + 9 minute bodyweight routine
Thursday morning, Back in the pool for the first time since February. Only 500m (2 x 5x50m sets) But good to see I can still swim.
Plan for tonight is another trainer ride and bodyweight routine.

Keep up the good work team.

well, all of our training days pale in comparison to Gretchen but you can't compare "machines" and regular mortals.

welcome back to tri- training, good to hear you can still swim.

Nat, hope you find someone to join you!

I played a lot of vball last night. It was pretty gross out, and I'm feeling fat and slow, but overall it was good. I tweaked my groin a little bit at the end, but it feels fine this morning, so don't think it was anything major, so I think that's a good sign!
It's gonna be pretty gross for at least the next week, so I might need to find a treadmill to start getting my runs in. I walked outside early today and it was already hot and the air was THICK.

good news about the groin. Hope the hip is ok.

Had a little scare this week, I don't know if it's because I read about Robert's achilles but my left achilles felt tight on Monday after my brick. Still felt tight on Tuesday (swim on Tuesday) but was OK on Wednesday so I decided to do my planned run intervals and said to myself I would stop at the first sign. But of course I didn't stop at the first sign (about 3/4 in the workout) because my son was with me (20 yo, in the army so suuuper fit) so I didn't want to give up in front of him, as we rarely do things together, I wanted to make the most of it.

Proper stretch, foam rolling afterwards and it feels great this morning. Will not run until the weekend now so it should be fine.

It was fun to do something with the offspring for once. In torrential rain and thunderstom (one hit much to close for comfort....)

Welcome back to the tri-training!

Nice work this week everyone!!!

Yesterday ended up being an impromptu rest day. Had to be into the office early for system upgrades validations (0600), and I didn't sleep well, so I didn't really feel like lifting either, so I just took the day off to rest. Also went and picked up my birthday present from the family after work - a new pair of Oakley half-jackets (my birthday is today). I couldn't talk them into a new bike or trainer, so I had to go with the new sunglasses. :D

Got in a 4 mile run this morning, in the neighborhoods around my house, which have plenty of long, steep hills. It had just rained, so it was midwest soupy out. Gross. But my achilles is feeling good, and I still hate hills. LOL!

'Morning, everyone.  Short workout this morning....45 min on the trainer with some aero practice, then 20 minutes of core work with The Wife.  Short swim in the neighborhood pool at lunch, then a quick run-through of all three sports in the morning.  Saturday is looking gross, plus heavy rain Friday so our swim course will be tepid mud.  Oh well, everyone gets the same conditions more or less.

@Robert:  sounds like your foot is good now, and yes I'm not a big fan of hills either LOL

@Nathalie:  glad the scare was just that and not something more, and isn't it great working out with your kids?  I mean, I used "swim" with my daughter which meant the same pool as she kick-set by my freestyle waving at me (her coach's idea LOL...but I was the only parent who swam so I got hazed mercilessly), but now we run together all the time

@Gretchen:  you absolutely have this brick, finish strong!

@Andrew:  I agree that the little stuff all day for core and strength work absolutely counts

Good work everyone on the strength streak.

The foot appears to be doing well so far this week. More foam rolling and stretching.

1000m in the pool at lunch today. Feeling good with that, too.

Nat and Robert--good to hear those ankles are feeling okay!!

Andrew---welcome back to the dark side...multisport!

Mike-I probably won't get on until late tomorrow, so good luck with your race this weekend!!!! Muddy and soupy sounds fun...ish...in that way that all of this stuff we do that kinda looks like torture sounds fun.

Nicole--I'm behind, but great to hear you were able to play volleyball!

1950yds in the pool this morning, followed about three hours later by 1:20 of strength training. Just happened to note today that Garmin only records the actual work time when in strength mode, so despite being in the gym for 1:20, my Garmin "credited" me with 24 minutes of work. Boo Garmin!! That is sum bs in my book!! Fortunately TP and BT both record the whole session, not like the stupid TP swim recording.

Mine records the full start to stop time on all of the sites.  Are you using a rep tracking feature on the watch or something?  I just track my heart rate to guessimate TSS.

FWIW I use the set/rep counter on garmin for my bodyweight stuff, I like the pretty pictures for which muscles are being targeted... It records 'total time' and 'working time' Same as swim workouts. Although for some reason it sends the total time to TP and garmin connect for strength workouts, the smaller value for swimming.

I agree, being short changed is annoying.

@Mike, Good luck for your race this weekend. Crush it.

@Gretchen, a 7 hour brick is huge, good luck and hope it goes well. Hopefully no hurricanes or 150% humidity for you to deal with.

@Nat, Nice that you got to do some fitness with your son. Silly girl ignoring the pain, but lucky escape it was just a scare.

@Robert, I am a card carrying member of the hating hills club. This body was not made for climbing.

Me, did another zwift ride last night. Only short but with some higher effort intervals. Pretty sure that my FTP is not what it was. I should not be that out of breath from 3 x 3' FTP intervals. Work to be done.

Have a good weekend all.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of hills, but they are necessary.

No bike ride this morning. Slept terrible and woke up feeling kind of meh/tired.

I don't mind hills, as long as they are of the "down" variety.

Got in my day-before-race prep work...1K in the pool with a couple of hard intervals, 20 min on the bike with about 5 of it at race pacing, and a little over 1K on the treadmill progressing to race pace then with a short 15" kick.  Lots of stretching and foam roller.  Put the race wheels and brake pads on the Ridley and we're ready to go.

Water temp for tomorrow is 85.5 degrees, and it's raining a little (though so far not as bad as predicted) so we'll be swimming in tepid mud.

I finally managed the elusive 100+ mile training day!! 97.85miles on the bike, followed by 4.33miles on the run. Had a bit of everything—rain, sun, wind…even a bit of thunder. Felt great and was a super confidence boosting day. I even thought about extending my brick to be the long run too (2:45). I didn’t though. Gotta save something for tomorrow!!

Don’t you do 100 miles every day? It feels like this to us mere mortals. Seriously, awesome!

Race done...short version:  podium (3/10 age group) and in theory qualified for Age Group Nationals.  Gotta wait for the official results but had a really good race overall (probably my 2nd best sprint ever) but the minion beat me by almost 4 effing minutes.  I REALLY need to get faster at swimming to keep up with her.

Will write up RR tomorrow morning.  Hope you all are having a great weekend - it went from 85 degrees and kinda sort drizzling this morning during the race to Florida here today.

ETA:  not positive about the AGN thing...stay tuned lots of weird permutations.

Great job Mike! Congrats!!

2:44 run for me today (and yes, that was the schedule…who does that?!?). I managed to squeeze it in between the pop up thunderstorm that stalled over our house for three hours and the masters swim meet. While it wasn’t raining while I ran, I did have to stop to wring my socks and tip the water out of my shoes. A combination of wet roads and 99.99% humidity will do that. It was gross, but it got done. I didn’t swim in the meet…just timed. I would rather swim every single evem back to back than ever time a swim meet again. That is boring!!

Well done Mike! 2nd best sprint ever is awesome. Hope you did qualify for the AGN. Looking forward to reading your nov… race report.

Nice ride long on the mountain bike in the rain today. Wore my short wetsuit for that, it was perfect. Rounded it off with a short swim.

You just described the 12 years I had as a swim parent.  5 hours of boredom to watch maybe 5 minutes of swimming, or I can time, and then maybe miss those 5 minutes.

Soooo...totally forgot about the whole "everyone gets a podium spot in triathlon" part, where there's an Overall top 3, then a Masters top 3, THEN the age group top 3, and I got my trophy in the third one.  Still a really great race despite some mistakes.

Apparently my age group is the most competitive...3 of the top 7 overall in men's 55-59 (WTF???), so I missed the AGN spot by almost 20 minutes LOL.  Dudes - go chill out or something.

@Gretchen - yeah felt the 99.99% humidity today - actually kinda getting used to it so wondering how fast we'll be come Sept/Oct when it's not Florida here.
