Scott (everlong) - I had my last long ride before my HIM yesterday as well.  How are you feeling about things?  Excited for Patriot?  Training is in the bag at this point

Patriot was June, it's Pumpkinman this time.

I feel better about it than I did a few weeks ago. Still really beat up from the long season. Pumkinman is a harder course and T1 has a quarter of a mile steep hill up from the lake so pulling off a better time will be tough.

How about yourself? Cedar is pretty flat I believe?

Oops!  Mixed up the two, sorry.  I've been told a million times not to compare race times, as all the courses are different, so just go out and race Pumpkinman as best as you can!

I feel fatigued but fit.  As I was running today, I thought to myself, gee, this is the fittest I've ever been in my entire life.  It's a good feeling.  I'm ready for race day to be here.  I hate the anxiety I create in my head.

Cedar Point bike is flat but can be very windy.  Lake Erie is unpredictable, but if it's too rough then they go to a TT start in a different area.  Run will be hot and rolling.

I'm pumped!

Wind and rough water definitely affected me at Patriot. I know what you're saying about the anxiety but just trust in your training and listen to your body. Race day never goes as planned so make smart decisions based on that day and forget about preconceived projections and you'll do great.

My friend finished IM Louisville yesterday, so proud and happy for her. She finished in 13:31.

Jen - she's my friend with the road bike. I actually think Louisville might be better on a road bike.

What a fantastic time for a first time finisher!  Congratulations to your friend.

I had already decided that Louisville will be my first IM in 2014

But you get a completely separate time for the hill climb and its completely lined with spectators cheering you on.  Pumpkinman is just a fantastic race.

I have a friend who swears by road bikes with shorty bars for all IM events.

So that's not included as T1 or it is and they give you a completely separate number for the fastest up the hill contest? I've heard nothing but great things so I'm really looking forward to it.

I believe you get 6 times -- Swim - Hill Climb - T1 - Bike - T2 - Run

So, hope everyone had a great weekend! Of course I did Birthday was great and it was nice it fell on a rest day!

So the Spartan Race was pretty awesome! I am sore in places I haven't been sore in a while. It was 9+ miles of obstacles and mud. It was all along trails and fields. I did it with a team of folks from work wich made it more enjoyable. There were over 70 obstacles along the run. Many of them were just steeples because most of the course was on a horse riding area. There was rope climbs, tire flips, balance areas, sandbag carrying, spear throwing and  wall climbs. It was pretty cool and one of those races were I had a lot of fun. I hope to have some pics soon and will put them up. It took us 2:33 to finish the whole course. I don't think I will ever run again. My biggest complaint is you paid for the race then when you get there you have to pay for parking and you had to pay for baggage check as well. I was a little surprised by this and thought it was more of a money making scheme at that point. It was a great race otherwise and was well put on with showers afterwards and they would take your shoes to clean and donate which was cool.

If they do they don't post it in the results.

Long distance weather is calling for a high around 70 so that's nice. Low is 47 so it could be pretty cold those first few miles on the bike.

Larkin - the spartan race sounds like it was a lot of fun.

I'd like to do something like that, but I'm afraid I'd seriously injure myself! I'm not the most coordinated person. It could be pretty comical for spectators to watch me though.

Yea it was a little crazy. I saw several people with twisted ankles along the way and who knows what else. It was totally fun and like I said doing it as a group is the way to go.

I've heard nothing but great things about it. Hope this isn't a surprise for hubby.

I was thinking about an IM in 2013 but I'm going to do another year at the HIM level and shoot for late 2014.

Congrats I'm sure you'll crush it.
