The tears in the tubes always happen near the stem!

Do you ride with enough pressure in your tires or pump them before each ride?  I had a small hole near the stem that caused a flat and they asked me if i'd been riding on way too low psi.  I'm not sure why, but I was asked that which made me think maybe that contributed....b/c i was not in the camp of pumping up my tires before every ride like you're supposed to.

Wait, Jenn you're ridding?  WOW that's great!

Yeah, that was last year.  Obviously.

lesleyann - 2010-05-06 7:13 PM anybody know how a LT test on the computrainer with blood testing matches up to a LTHR and FTP test on the computrainer for a TT? Should they be pretty close?? Just trying to compare my test from last year which was blood testing versus the one I did yesterday as a 40m TT on the computrainer. It appears that I am less fit this year after taking cycling class in the off season twice a week versus last years once a week. HMMMM, discouraging!

Lesley

On page 38 of the Joe Friel CompuTrainer Training Manual it has a anaerobic threshold test (AT).

http://www.computrainer.com/html/manuals/Joe%20Friel%20Manual.pdf

I never did it.  Heck I don’t test at all; well I did a FTP test in 08’.  I think the blood test and doing a field test is like apples an oranges.  Probable best to stick to one or the other; unless you develop a baseline in each.

Ok today I realized that I'm getting better fitness but that I'm not nearly at ironman fitness yet.

Did 93 miles to Altoona and back and was humbled at the end with the climbing etc.

It's always reassuring to know that I never really felt 'fit' enough for ironman yet had good performances (well at least in *MY* opinion)

During training you are dealing with a huge training load and the workouts feel much harder than the actual race day does. When you taper properly the actual race feels so much differerent. Well at least that's the way I see it

Anyone else who's done an IM agree or disagree?

Fred,  A 93 mile ride with over 4700 ft of ascent @ over 19mph is pretty fit I my book.

But as you said you’re not feeling it.

Yep I agree with your statement.  I busted my a$$ off training especially with the climbing; but I was also training for SavageMan.  I felt ready and fit for Ironman, but was unsure how I would put it all together.  For a minor nutrition boggle that affected my run I did pretty well for my first Ironman race.

It really makes me VERY nervous on the part with shooting for a KQ and all.  I mean as to weather I’ll pull a good race off or blow up by pushing to hard.  Eagleman will be a test of sort’s; although to completely different races.  I think most know I see no A or B race; its all A.

Thanks for the input!  Since I'm "heavy" I try to pump up my tires every ride so my a$$ isn't dragging on the ground. Smile

I like the idea of this tape check that's been suggested.  Never heard of it before (<- no lie!) so I'll look into that.

Thanks everyone!

High fives on July 24th to the folks who correctly diagnosed the flat issue (can't do it on the 25th, yanno, gotta save my energy!) =)

Holy sh1t, JK making an LP thread visit.  Now you know the LP thread is legit!!

As for the Shimano WH R-500's, perhaps we should truly find out of if they are bomb-proof by throwing them off the side of a very steep cliff.

http://www.roadbikereview.com/cat/wheels/wheelsets/shimano/PRD_366355_2490crx.aspx#reviews

Many a people on roadbikereview.com use words like "hate" and "awful" to describe these wheels, and I agree.  About a half dozen report frequent broken spokes.  I've had many a flats with these wheels and suspect it's due to the spokes.  I would suggest, when you have the money, invest in a $500.00 wheelset.  A $159.00 wheelset is only going to last so long.

I would gather to guess that most (if not all) the people who gave these a good review have never ridden anything else.  But hey, if  a 1986 Yugo is the only car you've owned, you might think it's a good car.

Never said they were bomb proof.  If you have troubles with the spokes, then replace the wheels.  If you don't have trouble, they are otherwise fine.  There is nothing inherently better about $500 wheels than $159 wheels.  The fact that the bike comes with relatively inexpensive wheels means you are not paying for a set of wheels you might not be happy with.  So when you throw them off the cliff there is little loss to you.

Nothing inherently better? hubs, materials, design....

Don't pump them up too much, it may make you slower. I'm 162lbs and I only go to about 115psi.

Great ride!!...and I agree with your comment. The race is so much different because you are coming in with really fresh legs. Never underestimate the taper...it is one of the most important parts of the training program. Trying to get that last long ride in at the end will do more harm than good.

I don't know anyone who would say a top 200 finish at a 140.6 mile race is not a good performance.

I don't doubt that at all.  It's guys and the other "Fasties" (woman or man) like him that motivate me to work harder.  I'm excited to see what goes down at LP.

That's a sweet ride.  It seems as if Blue is becoming a fan favorite around BT.  I'm seeing more and more of these pop up.  How do you like it?

You know I have been thinking about this all day.  What does it mean?

Well, I've never really camped.  So I can't answer that.  But I can say that Art Devlin's is a clean, no frills hotel that is in an awesome location and is pretty cheap if you decide to go that route.   The people that run it are great.
