JMoney - 2012-07-09 10:31 AM Pack attempt #92,  rolled all clothes into the a big @ss ball and stuffed it in the back of the minivan, duct taped bike to the roof,  All additional stuff that I forgot to pack will be duct taped randomly to the side of the van.

I've never met your wife but I can already bet she is is an AMAZING Woman.

That's funny she has been saying daily how lucky I am.  I would have to agree with her.

Having problems sleeping already! ughhh! This past week I haven't slept straight through the night. I wake up and keep thinking of the race and go back and dream about it. Sure I've had a few dreams here and there, but it's been non stop lately. I hope I can get some sleep 2 nights before. Man, I never had this issue before any other races (except my first tri). Anyone else having the same problem?

I did not have this problem...up until last night...same thing, dreams followed by waking up thinking about the race...more dreams then finally waking up for the day waaaay too early due to the chattering monkey in my head...

A bit of a dilemma here:

My husband and I have reservations at a place in Saranac Lake Thur-Sunday night; total cost around $800 bucks. We also will be staying in Schroon Lake (about 1 hr away) after the race Mon-Wed. Problem is, we are REALLY strapped for money right now (we decided to build a house too; moving in in late August!! Talk about adding expense to expense). So my question is this. We could cancel our reservations in Saranac Lake (maybe....have to see what their policy is) and stay in Schroon Lake the whole time. This would probably save us around $500 bucks. Only problem is, Schroon Lake is an hour away on race morning. Is this too far? Does traffic into town get bad? Please advise

The traffic is not that bad around LP. Just make sure you know where roads might be closed. The ride would be 10 minutes from Saranac Lake and the traffic is not an issue. Not sure about the ride from Schroon Lake. I know that I would probably not want to drive an hour back after the race.

I haven't had that problem yet, though my brain thinks about it all day long so, I probably tire my brain out and it actually thinks of nothing when I'm sleeping.

I've been having the one where you think you skipped part of the course and need to go back. Freak out!

JMoney - 2012-07-09 8:41 AM Is anybody doing the Welcome Dinner Friday night before the Mandatory Race Briefing?, or has done it in the past.  Is it more for just athletes or does everybody bring the family?  I'll be coming up early and the rest of the family will be up sometime Friday (not sure if they will be LP by 5:30).  Also does anybody know what's on the menu?  If the family does make it in time,  one of my little ones has a selective pallet, and can only eat about 5 things on the planet, so I'll have to make sure I make arrangements for him.

I'm going with wife again, food not that great, pasta, salad, bread, cake. I go just to get the motivating speech from Mike R. If this is your 1st IM I say go, if not, just your choice. Don't go for the food, not that great, go for the whole IM experience, the athlete meeting after is just standard stuff no big deal, and if they do say anything of note, it will on the streets in minutes. If you go and take others, buy your tickets now from the IMLP website, don't wait and try to get them at the event. They sell tickets there, but only after everyone else has been seated and eating, you will be waiting for an hour to get in to eat, good luck finding a seat at that point. Just my opinion, others may have a different view. This is #6 for me and I just like going. It's at the horse grounds which is 3 miles out on the run/bike course so you will have to drive.   Jim

Hey Everyone!  Can't wait for IMLP!  I'm doing some last minute scrambling to try and find a hotel room or rental for my parents.  If anyone comes across some available rooms can you let me know?!

Hope training is going well for everyone!

Does this mean no more jelly beans? cause I really like jelly beans...

There's a 5lb bag waiting for you... at the finish line

I will be cheering every single one of you on! Stay safe on your training and just glide to 7/22!!

It will seem like forever but it will be here before you know it.

And if you're bored just go pack for the 238438th time.

So I have never been in a race with aid stations during the bike portion before, should I get a friend to help me practice taking up water bottles and nutrition on the fly? or is this something that I should really not worry about?

Does anybody have an updated water temp.?  It's been in the mid 90's to 100 degrees down here in Southeast PA and I'm really looking forward to the weather in LP.

you can, but just slow down. Point to the person you want to take it from. Toss your old bottles out first though...lol. There will be, or should be, someone in the front of the aid station collecting the old bottles so you don't get a littering penalty.

The water temps vary greatly.  We have No Control over it so no need to worry.

Thanks all.  I'm just looking for a break from the heat.  I'd much rather rather in lower temperatures anyway - 73 sounds perfect.
