Saturday, Sunday and Monday of next weekend are calling for rain.

I know it's 11 days out and the weathermen are always wrong on tomorrow's weather never mind 11 days out but I have no interest in 70.3 with 68 as the high with rain. My first Olympic was 55 and raining and that was miserable. Swim and run no worries but the bike will suck. Hope this isn't the one time the long range forecast comes to fruition.

Things can change!!!  I hope they do for you.  Rain sucks.  I did that for the Cleveland oly, and I was chilled to the bone and ended up with 3 blisters on my feet from water in my shoes.

No forecast here yet on weather.com.  It's supposed to be 90s this weekend and then dip back down into the 80s.  I hope it's in the 90s for my race.  I want heat and sun!!!!!!

Still lots of time for the weather to change.  68 and overcast is pretty much perfect for a tri (if its raining you could always bike in your wetsuit).

Now that Kelly has me back at it, I am struggling at getting up early, especially with 1:30 bike .... need to get my body used to it. So easy to roll back over and go to sleep.

Do you guys get up even if you have to drag your body out of bed?

I'm pretty much up at 5 a.m. like clockwork.  I'm just used to it now.

You're a masochist!!!! I want mid 60's and overcast but no rain. The Olympic I did in the rain my hands were so cold coming off the bike I couldn't undo the velcro on my cycling shoes.

Ditto. I work in IT and was up until midnight fixing stuff another team broke and then I got called at 3AM to run additional scripts. I was back to bed at 3:45 and then woke up at 5 like clockwork. 4:20-5 is my wake up time 95% of the time now. The 4:20 is to make master's swim at 5:30.

Speaking of hot races.  Someone in the IM section asked if IMTX was a hot race.  Really?

I have not felt great this week at all.  Life is so busy with the kids, and it is making me dread my training sessions (not to mention I feel like absolute monkey butt this week).  Legs were sore and stiff on yesterday's ride.  I couldn't find a groove during this morning's swim.  I think I am really burned out, because all I can think about is my 2 weeks of total rest.  Race and break need to be here now.  Put a fork in me.

Morning!

I made it to masters twice this week (almost more than during my IM training - ha!). So I have a question. The coach has been trying to get me to kick, because I do not kick at all. Occasionally I'll move my feet to keep my legs up, but I think I naturally have good ok position in the water, legs don't sink, etc. so I just don't kick.

She's been trying to get me to kick. I know typically triathletes don't kick much, and try to save the legs for the bike and run, but I think most people probably kick more than me. So I figured I'd try to work on kicking since I don't have any more tris this year.

Anyway - what is 2 beat kick, 6 beat kick. Is that the number of kicks for each right & left arm? Or just one arm?

I tried to count my kick and I just can't figure out what I'm doing. Does it really matter how many kicks you do? Is there a drill to help work on that? I feel like I just kick and kick and kick, with no rhythm or pattern. Is that normal?

When I started swimming a few years ago I felt very clumsy. The coach at that time was helping me with my arms and body rotation. I remember one day it just clicked, and all of a sudden I felt very fluid in the water, and I "got" what he was saying.

Will the kick be similar and one day it will just click for me?

So apparently at some point I turned off my T, Th alarm.  Boo.  Well I actually got 8 hours of sleep instead of 6 though.  Anyway it's a good thing I'm working from home today.  Hill intervals at lunch on the treadmill and low cadence work on the trainer after the girls go to bed.  I could also set the laptop up next to the trainer if it turns into a slow day.

I felt like that before my first IM. The taper week will put gas back in your tank. Still I can't wait for the two weeks rest either.

In 2-beat, you kick twice for every cycle (a cycle is 2 arms strokes counting both arms). A 6 beat kick is 6 kicks per cycle (2 arm strokes).

Its a little bit tough to translate kicking in the pool to kicking in a wetsuit.  When you're in a wetsuit your legs are wrapped in bubbles, which changes the kick.

Personally, I find that the number of beats per kick is individual specific.  I have a two beat kick (I also have srange modified butterfly kick).  If its something you want to work on, I can send you drills, but I don't think its something you NEED to work on.

I swam for the 2nd time post-injury today.  800 yards and my back stroke is faster than my freestyle.  My shoulder is a little sore post-swim but no pain during swimming.  If I can get through another week of swimming, I will be allowed to sign up for Poconos 70.3.

I probably don't NEED to work on it, but I kind of want to. I can use all the help I can get in the water. I'm probably overthinking the whole kick, but what if I'm kicking 3 or 5, not 2 or 4??
