Better than being the sandals and socks guy (or is he?).  Nice Teva tan line.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.  My birthday gift to myself (and RP who's bday is in 5 days) I signed us both up for our first 50k in 10 weeks.  He will crush it, I will survive.  OH DEAR!! Been wanting to do one for several years, just no balls to sign up for one.

Well, then, Happy birthday, and congrats for finding the balls!

(sorry, couldn't resist!!Wink

Trev--yep, a bike jersey.  I do a change in T2 into a tri top.

I'm not Canadian but I put on a pair of compression socks in T1 and wear them until I get home.  I swear they keep my calves looser from the bike to the run so the extra 30" is worth it to me.  Plus I like cute feet.

In IM MOO 2004 and 2006 the weather was exactly as it was yesterday.  Those that did not plan ahead in their transition bag or SN bags froze in a big way--some were hypothermic.  Even at 60F with rain it is darn cold over time.  It is no fun to have your teeth chattering and shivering on the bike, especially 6+ hours.  What I wouldn't have given for a fresh pair of compression socks half way through my ride yesterday.

Christina et al.  What does it mean to live off the course on the bike?  I've never taken anything but water that they are handing out?  How do you know what you're getting as you fly by? or do you stop to figure that out?

At Timberman I would slow down a little and call out for what I needed. Someone would yell out and I'd grab it. I never needed to stop but that was also only an HIM. For Moo I'm hoping there's enough space to grab a bonk breaker (quick tuck under the short leg) then grab either a water (to refill aero bottle) or preform(just switch out bottles). I'm sure I'll need to stop at least once for a potty break so i'll stock up then too. At least that's the plan and I'd love to hear from the IM vets.

i'm surprised you asked this.  living of the course has a lot more to do with training than race day.  training your body with whats available race day.  their is lots of stuff about nutrition conditioning  around for your perusal.  but honestly... i swear you and i have talked about this on several occasions... maybe i just need a beer.

as far as a race day,  i don't think its any different than other big races accept for whats being served.  something like...  first tables and volunteers have water.   next tables have perform.  then solids /gels then water again.  then perform again.   each feed zone is the same.

their you go. your on you're way now!  its not really, that hard!

Are you being a smart a$$?  I have no intention of living off the bike course, never have.  I was more curious how you did it. I swear I don't remember people handing out anything other than water and Perform, but I probably missed it.

IM bike, I carry very heavily concentrated Sustained Energy, highly caffeinated gels, and grab water on the course.  I've taken bananas on the bike at aid stations - yummy, but slow.  I'm currently addicted to perpetuem solids.  I should probably do some training if i'm going to keep eating them.

YES!!! You two have discussed bike nutrition lots of times!!!!

Good to see grammar and spelling is taken seriously in the USA, in Australia anything goes and extra points are awarded if you can shorten words and end them with o or y i.e. Davo, Trevo, Suz, Kylie, Johno, Lindo, as in "good onya Trevo, those feet look feral, I'd take a sickie and neck a few tinnies with Stevo!"

Suzy - Tri suit the entire race or changing clothes?  I knocked 10 minutes off my T2 time in CdA and I was glad I spent some time on transitions in training.  I also trained with everything they offered on the course so that I knew my stomach could handle it even though it wasn't my Plan A.  I still think Perform is nasty but if diluted I can tolerate it.

I am currently finishing up the 6 week Ironman to Couch plan.  It was very successful.

no tap dancing or trail running in them.  those are vents.  but they sure don't help with the stink... nastiest smelling shoes of any kind that i've ever owned.  comfortable as heck though.  we'll see how long they last...
