Good info on the perpetuem, John....once I try it, I'll weigh in.  The SE doesn't do so well in the heat, so it's worth a try!

As for gear bag, I'm assuming you're talking about Tri Bike Transport.  I did send a bag.  Jeff and I both shipped bikes, but we only sent one bag, on both trips.   We crammed a lot of stuff into it.  It was a bit bigger than their website specified, but one of the smaller bags we saw!  Wetsuits, helmets, CO2 cartridges, Gu, SE powder, bottles, pedals, bike shoes (Jeff's), bike tools, fuel belts, bike jackets...  I labeled the bag really well - inside and out - and unlike checked airline baggage, it was never opened.

We flew, and really didn't want to worry about baggage fees and lost luggage and flying with CO2 (some silly TSA rule). I've NEVER heard of a problem with a bike or a bike bag with TBT, so it seemed safer.  We carried everything else onto the plane.  Worked perfectly.   We returned the bikes after we raced...night of....and returned in the morning with the bike bag, repacked.  Not tough, because the food was gone, we brought cheap bottles and left them behind,  etc.

Yeah they don't like it even in your checked luggage, so leave it at home unless you want to give it to the baggage guy, lol we did that on our way to Lonestar last year, at least he had a brother that rode bikes that could use them.

next 3miles 7:18pace now I can see this.
last 2.19miles 7:31 now I don't think that was an easy pace but felt good so just went.

one thing that was nice about the run is when I finished I still had some light left come on Time Change

No races for me this week, but what about you?  Provide the details!!!

For those of us still dreaming about that first race of '11 or Spring for that matter, what have you recently discovered that's made your day? or your workouts easier?

good luck racing peeps!!!

was gonna run a half marathon but bagged it due to time constraints.  will probably still run close to 13 though, just a bit earlier.

how i felt after last fridays 100 miler made my workouts easier in that it shows all this work is paying off, in a big way.  last time i rode a 100 i was sore as heck for a week. not this time.

running off that ride made my day as it was probably the one workout i've been most excited about since starting the plan.  its the first real time that you get out there and for 6+ hours all you think about is get to that run and all you do, or try to do is put yourself in a position to get to that run.  its mental.  its physical.  its awesome.  there's a bunch of 70-90 mile rides that i run off,  but its that 100 threshold that's money.

Not easier actually but better, I started doing all my workouts using the Computrainer in ERG mode vs. trying to use my powertap.  I found out that I was slacking quite a bit when relying on me, to look at the PT readout.  Building ERG courses forces me to have to ride the watts I have been given and even the rest periods are solid as I can't go below a certain wattage.

No races for me, but due to my messed up Garmin 305 which has been giving me crazy HR readings for the past few months, I have learned that I can indeed run by pace and not just by heartrate and it has been a good mental hurdle for me.

( I really should get the darn thing fixed!)

That's a great run, Bryce, and those are awesome paces, but don't discount the value of a good cool down.

I like to cool down with a 10 or 15 minute (or as your plan said, 2 mile) easy jog to bring my heartrate down slowly and distribute blood evenly throughout my body.  It brings my body back to the "pre run" state...of course a bit tired but not "worn out" or like I need to rest...cuz usually I can't anyway.

I think it is also a good practice for injury prevention.  All of my runs end with a nice 10-15 minute cool down and it is at conversational pace.

Just my opinion based on my own experience, others may do things differently...but having had pretty good luck at not getting injured and recovering pretty quickly for consecutive day runs, just thought I'd share.

No races for me until May.....wow that seems like a long way off.

I have recently discovered that I can still swim!

And ..... I have also become quite the wrench in the last couple of weeks.  It's the fine details like derailer adjustments, chain replacements, BB services.  I have to say that it is quite satisfing to have that perfectly quiet drive train when you did the work.....  just saying!

Oh, and the fact that Abuurn students can't spell......now that's funny!

I've discovered/learned/accepted that I can shuffle the plan around, tweak things, and still (hopefully) be fine. I've let go of some of my OCD when following my plan and I like it. In fact, it was that attitude which enabled me to take my kiddos to AZ for their school break, which was an awesome break for me as well (and I got most of the workouts in -- not always as prescribed, but I put in the time). Keep on keepin' on...

What I recently discovered that made my day today is that my run this weekend will be very scenic and awesome!  I'm going to DC this weekend, staying in Arlington, and trying to plan my 7-miler for Saturday or Sunday morning.  Turns out, I should be able to make it past the Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial, and around the Washington Monument before turning around.  Pretty cool!

What's made my workouts easier is just attitude adjustments!  If you THINK it's fun, then it will be.  If you think it sucks, well, it does!  Workouts are all mental to me now.

P.S. - Getting new shoes tonight because my knee has been hurting, and the shoe issue is the only one we can think of.  I've got around 350 miles on my old ones anyway.  Anybody here use Nike running shoes that they like?  Found out from the old intern that they'll be mad if I show up in any shoes but Nikes, more so than other apparel!  I've been wearing Brooks for years, so it should be an interesting shoe search.
