jarvy01 - 2012-09-04 7:36 AM Good morning!  Rest day for me.  Felt pretty decent in the pool yesterday (my last real swim before next weekend's race).  Chores, errands, and play with kids today

Sounds like a doing work that's not training day, not a rest day.

Get your feet up a little!

My husband's aunt came over this afternoon and told me to go take a nap while she played with Gordie (Fred was already in his crib for nap time).  I wasn't going to argue with her

Nice!!!  Why don't I have family like this?

My husband's aunt is amazing!  After I had Fred she started coming over weekly, staying for the entire day sometimes.  I don't know what it was about adding a fourth baby, but it was really stressful for me, and she was a huge lifesaver (could be that Fred had colic and cried 24/7 while 3 other children ages 5, 3, and 2 hung all over me).  She is 100% invested in the lives of my children, and she truly knows each one of them.  I love her very much.

I took my first trial masters swim class and I really liked it. It was nice not being in a pool by myself and I loved the longer pool - I swim at my gym in a very small pool. Trying to decide if I should continue  - I am not sure how much instruction I will get, although she was very willing to answer questions. The classes are offered 3x a week for the price, but I could probably only make one a week realistically. I asked her if I had to do other strokes and she said no, but I did try back stroke. Does everyone who does masters here do all 4 strokes? Thoughts on masters classes for triathlon?

I got dizzy when I did the back stroke - is that normal? LOL

At my masters we do mostly freestyle, but the coach throws in "choice".  My "choice" is almost always freestyle.  We also do drills for warmup and cool down.

IM also shows up in the workout occasionally.  For the IM's, if everyone else is doing them I will too, minus the butterfly.  I usually luck out and my lane mate(s) usually do not do butterfly either.  So we'll do back, breast, free, repeat.

I just can't get butterfly down, although I wish I could because I think it would be an awesome workout.  I had a friend try to help me with it and it was a disaster, so I gave up.

I can only do back inside, so I can use the lines on the ceiling to help guide.  In the outside pool I'm all over the lane and become a hazard to others!  The coach from the last masters I went to banned me from doing back. Ha!

I don't get dizzy, are you swimming inside our outside?  Do you have something you can focus on?

Hey Jeremy!  That must be nice to have summers off.

Not much left on my race schedule this year, just Savannah marathon (or half depending on how training goes) in early November.

I usually do the Thanksgiving half, but it's up to $70 now so I'll probably just map out a 13.1 mile route near my house and talk a friend into joining me.  That's what we did last year.

Thanks Karen! We swam inside and I used the ceiling to guide me - still ran into the dividers.LOL  I did back twice and each time I went to freestyle, I felt dizzy and a little nauseous. It was weird. I might commit for the next 10 weeks and see how many I can get to and if I improve at all!

Michele - a dog question for you.

Remember my boxer/pit mix had hives a while back.  She seems to get them every year, not sure what the trigger is.  The last time the hives get really bad and she started losing patches of fur.  We took her to the vet again when this happened (about 4 months ago), they did a skin scraping and said it was not mange.  They prescribed her steroids, a medicated shampoo, and said we could continue to give her claritin.  Everything cleared up.

The past few days she has been itching like crazy, she's got what looks almost like chicken pox on her belly, but they started out more like quarter size red welts.  And on her chest she's got small little black spots.

We now noticed our Ridgeback had little black spots on her chest.  No other marks on her, but their chests have matching black spots.

Our third dog appears to have none of these skin conditions.

What in the world could it be?  The vet felt pretty sure it was not a food allergy, but something environmental.  The boxer mix has had allergy/skin/hive issues about half a dozen times.  The Ridgeback never anything like this.  I'm at a loss.  Start them both on Clartin?  If it does not clear up pack them up for another visit to the vet?  Any ideas?

I would start them both on Claritin and restart bathing them in the medicated shampoo. The 'chicken pox' lesions sound like a bacterial skin infection, which could be a sequella to allergies. They may need an antibiotic. Can you send me a picture of the lesions? Email me at [email protected] or text to 609-713-3242 so I can see what you're talking about.

Just emailed 3 photos - 2 of the boxer mix and one of the Ridgeback.  Thanks for taking a look.  I'm heading to California for several days early in the morning - I think I'm going to have to send my husband to the vet!

That's normal.  There's a whole balance thing going on too.  For back stroke your body should rotate but you head should stay perfectly still, which helps with not getting dizzy.

I think masters is a good thing (I also think its a good thing to be able to swim all 4 strokes -- there are benefits from all of them).

Crazy week for me.  I have a trial so my days consist of being in court all day and then going back to the office and doing another full days worth of work.

Training wise too, its an important week.  If this week goes well, I get to sign up for Poconos 70.3.

I finally got butterfly down a couple weeks ago.  Me linking my front and back halves has always been an issue with free and was the same with fly.  Just clicked one day.  The worst part of IM sets now for me is breast.  Tuckers me out and I'm crazy slow.

Jeremy you are the most fit PE/Health teacher I've ever seen.  Kinda sad really.  Most of my teachers were just fat football coaches who needed a spot in a classroom.  In Texas football takes priority.  As far as races I have the Houston Triathlon (Oly) and Oilman (HIM).  Might pick up a half or full mary or both before tri season starts up next year with Texas 70.3 in April.

First of two workouts in the books today.  1:20 on the dreadmill with 8 hill repeats in there.  Trainer session for lunch.

Oh and I guess I can announce that Cindy is pregnant since we're out of the first trimester.  Baby #3 is due the first week of March.  Should make the final weeks of IMTX training interesting.

Congrats on learning the fly. I still can't do it. I can fly on the breast stroke. It's always been natural for me. I'm going to put some time in this winter to learn the fly as I believe it will help with my core and hips.

So how does one learn fly? I always thought I was doing breast correctly, only to be told by my last masters coach I was not. All my swimming has been self taught, so there you go. He corrected me, but I feel slower now.

I'm in Dallas waiting for my next flight, delayed, bored! And a calligraphy pen exploded on me during last flight. Do you know the ink in thosediors not come off? At all, no matter how much you scrub. My fingers are covered in ink! Just thought I'd share that with you all.
