Hi all, my understanding regarding the bridge repair on the out-n-back is... if its not in we would stay on Rt 9 after hitting Jay, instead of turning left on 86 and going up the Jay Hill. We would continue on Rt 9 until we are just outside of Ausable Forks then turn around there (Granite Co.) and head back to Jay and up hill on 86. I live in area and just story I heard. Take it for what it's worth. Cool

Would you consider that stretch to be comparable to the out and back that we would be getting lopped off?

Not sure about everyone else, but I don't particularly find this to be great news. Do you agree that out and back kind of provided a little breather - although it does have some rollers and one last tough hill before the fire station - between the climb up Jay Hill and the climb back through the notch? With this new set up, you would be going right from going up Jay Hill and turning left onto 86 to climb back up through the notch. Maybe its a little fuzzy in my head but I seem to remember those being the two most tiring sections of the course and now they are back to back.

Agree that overall it is probably the same, but do you think changing the order of when this section comes in the course will have an impact? This puts the Jay hill and Wilmington climb back to back now.

Just got back from my first open water swim of the season. Long Island Sound. I think the water temp is in the low to mid 50s. It was awesome. It hurt my face when I first got in, then I got used to it and it was totally fine. I love swimming in open water and looking at the wildlife: horseshoe crabs mating, seagulls checking to see if I'm edible, a spider crab reaching out to grab my toe while I'm standing in the shallows trying to adjust my earplugs. When I was swimming, a kayaker cruised by and just shook his head at me. Made me laugh!

I swam at Cedar Beach, Long Island Sound, last Saturday.  Like an ice bath, the first 90 seconds were brutal, and then after that I felt no pain and I had a terrific swim.  I did not notice the undersea porno though

WittyCity, if they are hooked together, one behind the other like a train, they are mating. They swim kind of in tandem that way, very interesting!

I'm glad to hear this. I might get a chance out at Rockaway Sunday but that's open ocean so might be too cold. I'm definitely braving Mirror Lake next weekend!

x2 on the thanks for med-tent volunteering.  I was a finish line catcher at another IM once (for the entire finish), and the med tent was seriously understaffed towards the end of the race.  For the last hour, there was basically one person in there and we had a lot of wrecked peeps coming across the finish line.

And I'll just say it right now, but if anyone is PLANNING on visiting the med tent (I think you guys were joking above) that is utter crap.  Most people feel bad after an IM... go get some fluids and food in and sleep it off.  I had a bunch of people cross the line looking fine, and ask me where the med tent was.  When I asked what was wrong, they said they "needed and IV to help them recover."  I wanted to smack them upside the head.

That is just psycho to go get an IV "by choice." Not me, I'm outta there unless there is definitely something wrong that only medical aid can fix! Save the cots for people who really need 'em. Much more fun to go hang with family/friends and rehydrate the "traditional" way.

Quick Note.. Did 2 loops on Sat.  Did the Ausible forks out and back on 1st loop- not bad at all, but makes Jay to LP a LOT of climbing back to back.  2nd loop, I tired the one I mapped, but found part of it was a dirt road.  If you take a rt instead of a left at 86, there is about a 4+ mile climb, then if you head down towards the cemetery on the normal out and back, it is a fast downhill, but you have to climb it all again and the climb outward is killer compared the speed you get on the down.  SO, either I'm hoping the bridge is done, or the Ausible forks is the way to go.

If anyone was up there on Sat, my wife was the water-stop in the Gap on 86 right after the  rock wall, before the Bears and Cherries

Anyway, just my .02, I had a decent 1st loop and a crappy 2nd loop, the wind was killer on loop 2, heading out of LP and then up 86. I got a little push on the 10ish to Jay, but it wasn't worth it!

Ahhhh, we've all done it!  Take Loop 1 easier than you feel you need to.  If not, what happened to you is what happens to everyone.   IMO, crappy Loop 2 is a direct result of what you did on loop 1.   The wind picked up on Loop 2 on race day as well, specifically on 86.  So what you experieced was par for the course.

Yup, and I can't prove it, I need to compare the 2 loops, but I'm 90% sure that my rear brake was rubbing the whole way up out of town on the 1st loop.. I checked it and it seemed to be - i made a quick stop before the downhill as it didn't feel right.. Oh, well

Hurting....b/c of fit, b/c you were under trained, b/c you pushed too hard for your current fitness?  I don't think you should be hurting in the true sense of it from any bike.

Most people say LP is a tri bike course.  But you def don't need one.  I biked exactly the same bike splits on my road bike in training & my tri bike in the race (not fast on either!).   However, i hated my road bike.  So, i am much happier on the tri bike regardless of the time.
