Go out and get airborne and start taking mega doses of vitamin C!! And rest!!!![]() Relax and rest. Remember there are things you can control and things you can't control. This is something you can't control. My husband is on his 2 week break, so he's going to take Gordie to the old house this afternoon so I can catch a nap. Didn't sleep at all last night. Everyone in my family has a cold (Kevin too). I was comforting Freddy yesterday because he was fussy, and he sneezed into my mouth...literally. I knew it was over at that point. |

I think the gummies taste like candy and end up eating the entire pack. |

My buddy who started doing tris with me but never really got addicted like I did is supposed to be doing his first HIM with me at Oilman. The course has hills, well hills for us are rollers for most others, and he dies on anything not pancake flat. I know he needs my help but this probably means me deviating from what I need to do on long ride days to make this happen. So conflicted. Then I get an email from him that he's "TRIed out" and can't wait for Oilman to be done so he can stop having a workout schedule every day. IDK. He has a 15 to 17 mph goal for the bike and a 12 min mile goal pace for the run. It's going to be a long day for him either way. Sorry, just venting. I really want to nail this race and why I train with people of the same or greater ability for the most part. I know you want to help, but you've also put in a lot of work to achieve your goals. I think you can be encouraging without compromising your goals (e.g. parallel play -- sometimes Shaun will bike with me, we ride out together to a loop and then I go off at my pace, we get to see each other on the loop, ride the same amount of time and then ride home together). Thanks. I needed to hear that. I mentioned this to Cindy and she said "Why would you compromise something you've been working all year at for a guy who does this half a$$ed?" And yes we have the baby part down pat, but it's the other two ankle biters that are going to be the wildcard. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen Aiborne does work and just throw mega doses of vitamin C on top and you'll be ok. :fingerscrossed:
Almost 13 miles this morning in 60 minutes of Z1, 45 minutes of Z2. My legs are fried right now. Looking forward to watching me some college football tomorrow. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You have to do your thing. All my friends signed up for the Princess half back in Feb. Well we all trained together, but everyone had different paces. The main person doing her first half was the slowest and doing the run/walk method. I wanted to encourage her and yet still needed to do my thing. Most of the time we started runs together for the first 5-10 minutes then everyone did their own thing. Sometimes I ran with her, but would run ahead and loop back around constantly to make sure things were OK. So I didn't compromise my goals, but also was able to help her. That is the downside of getting people into something new ... you have to stick with encouraging them and helping them somewhat until they are good on their own. MOst people get the bug to race, but don't really realize it is mostly and individual and lonely sport too ... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Off to Cedar Point in a couple hours. I got an e-mail that Rev 3 canceled the kid and sprint triathlons due to rough water and water on the bike course. Winds are coming in at 23 mph. I hope this means everything will be calm and clear tomorrow morning ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck Jen. I still just feel beat up and sore both mentally and physically. Season was long and grueling. I'm glad the race isn't today and hope I wake up magically better tomorrow. Good news is the rain and high temps projected earlier in the week now are projected as overcast and high of 70. Winds also projected in the high teens with gusts into the 30's now are supposed to be 5-7. Humidity will still be high but I'll take it. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did my last sprint of the year - I cut 10 minutes off my time on the same course from last year, even 3 minutes off my swim which for me is amazing!! I cut 4 minutes off my bike time! It was a good way to end the year of tri! Now on to fall running! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kaburns1214 - 2012-09-09 6:46 PM How'd it go? OK. I knew going in I was really beat up but all things considered it wasn't bad. I actually had a better swim, transitions and bike than Patriot but I started cramping really bad on the run. For whatever reason my heart rate was high even before the race and I think it was just built up fatigue. Swim: 37:18 T1: 4:02 which includes a 300 meter run up a fairly steep hill that was wet from the over night rain. Bike: 2:56:35 T2: 1:51 Run: 2:09:30 Total: 5:49:18 Patriot was 5:42:54 and this was a harder course so all in all not bad. I was pissed off that they didn't have ice at the run aid stations which I specifically emailed the race director about because I would have brought my own. Other than that it's a wonderfully run race. Edited by everlong 2012-09-09 7:00 PM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rest day. Much needed. So yesterday was the first cooler day of the year here. It was in the mid to upper 60s when I started my ride. Note to self, just because you're not sweating buckets doesn't mean ignore your water bottles. Never good when you go out on a 3:30 ride and come back in with a bottle and a half of fluids still on the rig. Gah. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks I'm definitely going to rest. Went into the gym this morning and just did stuff to get the blood flow going to help the healing process. Like leg extensions and curl with all of 30 pounds on the rack, calf raises with 70 pounds, mini-band walks, planks and side planks, lots of stretching. Felt much better leaving than when I walked in. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott (everlong) - Congratulations on Pumpkinman! You did a fantastic job! What are you going to tackle next year? Can't believe you're at the gym lifting weights already. There will be none of that for me for at least a week. Michele - You beat your time from last year by 11 minutes? Success! Congratulations, mama! I came down with a full blown cold, sore throat, ear pain, chills, and fever last night, so I'm going to postpone the writing of the race report for a few days. I think my body held of until the end of the race, and then my immune system shut down. I will leave you with a few thoughts: - Gels just become vile after consuming them for 4 hours. GROSS. I don't want to touch another gel for quite some time. - Peeing on the bike is difficult. Really difficult. - Why did the middle aged dude in orange insist on playing cat and mouse with me instead of just letting me pass him? I can see you huffing and puffing, and you slow down every time you pass me. Get over the fact I am a girl and go away! - Why are drivers so rude to cyclists? A man got hit during the race, and I saw him lying on the side of the road, bleeding badly. Really, drivers? Are you rushing to make an international flight? Or are you rushing to get to the bar to watch football? Slow down!!! - Why is my body covered in white salt crystals? I could see it on my arms. My hair is a hard ball of salt, and the salt keeps dripping into my eyes, burning them. I've never seen anything like this!!! Holy ****! - Wow. My running form is not pretty. In fact it's a tragedy. I felt like I was in good company during the run portion of my race. There were some people slogging and barely remaining upright. It made me feel like a gazelle - I passed at least 20 men ages 35-50 over the last 6 miles of my run. I want to thank the guy in the red jersey, who said, "you're killing me here." I actually smiled during mile 11 because of you. I'm not fast at all, but I started feeling fast. Again, a gazelle. - HIMs hurt. Particularly the run. I don't even want to think about the full IM I committed to doing next August. I'm frightened. Very frightened. That's all for now. Off to bed.
