WTC has a "no naked torso" rule, strictly enforced. Just one of several ways they differ from USAT.

Plenty of pictures of me in my album and race reports.

I'm OK with Mandina's for 5:30ish. Is someone making reservations? There will be five of us bears...

Hey Bear I remember them saying that too. However looks like the winner Brett McMahon had a naked torso tri top on last year. As seen in pictures below. If yall gave him a penalty McCormack could have won. That would be a crappy way to lose a race.

jackjack - 2010-04-15 12:19 PM Thanks New Orleaners!
Is transition to that swim place easily walkable?  It looks so when I compare to run route map etc but can't see a scale.
I will not have a hire car so will be taxing/ busing to transition and hoping once bike checked in (or even before) to go for a dip in the lake.

Thanks

It is probably 2 miles from the transition.....there might be other dipping in along the way...I just wanted to share my fav spot. ;p

Good luck on Sunday!

I just returned from a short bike ride as well. The winds are pretty bad but I hear they are supposed to die down this weekend. I just hope it does so the swim portion is not canceled. I would be really upset since it is my 1st 70.3 and I am excited to complete it.

Is dinner set then at Mandino's?  Still 5:30 pm?  Still a party of one here.  Thanks for info on swim and winds.  I am using ZIPP 404's front and rear so cross winds should not be much of a problem other than to wear me down!  Good luck and look forward to meeting eveyone.

I'm still in for dinner Saturday evening 530ish, @ Mandina's.  Hope to see all of us out there.  Just arrived here in NOLA about 5 hrs ago and were just taking in some of the city.

I have an xlab superwing on back of my saddle with two bottles.  One bottle has water and the other has gatorade in it.  Gels process quicker when taken with water vice sports drink plus it helps me keep from dehydrating as has happened in the past when just using sports drink.  Also have a gatorade bottle on down tube to avoid grabbing one at station, personal choice.  Good Luck and enjoy the experience, these are a blast!

Got it for Mandina's, thanks for info. Heading down tomorrow am.

Thanks to everyone that offered to help with my wife driving around New Orleans.  Got a friend that is going with us and he is taking care of it for me, not sure what that means? Mandina's it is.

62 degrees at 6 am....the run will be hot, but I LIKE that 10mph...not too bad (compared to 20mph yesterday - the water was ROUGH!).  Good Luck, y'all!

No way is that a naked torso. The fact that you say he "had a naked torso tri top" is contradictory in itself. Either he had a naked torso, or he had a tri top.

I think the standard would be "nipples/pecs covered." Women are allowed to race in sports bras.

Those meeting for dinner remember to bring cash: Mandina's does NOT accept credit cards!

See you guys there. I have to attend a briefing at the Hilton at 3pm so look for me there if you're around packet pickup between 2 and 3.

Not too bad. I rather choppy waters than a stronger headwind. Swim is shortest leg anyway. Pounding the wind will whip you out on the bike and then will have your legs fried for the run. That is what happened to everyone last year. That and the humidity. I find the humidity is more of a factor around here. 61% isnt that bad. Last year everyone was struggling bc of the headwind coming in on the bike and the humidity (with the added sun factor) was bad.

My bad Bear. I was thinking they ment no belly shirts. But basically they mean tops have to be worn and cant go "shirtless" ....aka naked torso? Still wearing a shirt with the nipples hanging out would be a pretty funny site.

Torso is defined as "the body excluding the head and neck and limbs." Maybe you were thinking "no naked abs"? Personally, I'm all for a little skin and would certainly allow the ladies to go shirtless.

I totally agree with you on that one!!! And I hope you definatly wouldnt penalize a woman who desides to go shirtless, but im sure you would ride your mountain bike close anyway just in case she is in need of some "assistance".

Hey all!!
Went down there today and sat thru the race briefing and picked up my packet.  Pretty easy, meeting went over basics but was surprised on what they considered the drafting zone (much bigger than I thought), then over to USAT check in then off thru the expo to get your packet.  Expo was okay, picked up some gu's at a decent price.  If you are careful you can get some deals but the Expo is not huge.   Make sure to get your parking pass validated.

One thing, if you are driving there with a pickup there isn't a huge amount of clearance in the parking garage.  Nissan Titan fit but those who raise your trucks up won't fit.

One last question, what are you all doing with your tire pump, etc?  Meaning are you pumping up the night before and calling it good or are you pumping in the morning and leaving your pump in Transition?

I was thinking about the same thing a few minutes ago. I guess you could bring it that morning and just leave it at transition or you could always borrow one.

This is my 1st 70.3 so I never had to think about this before.

Pump it up the night before and call it good.  If it's at the correct pressure the night before, it's going to be at the correct pressure in the morning.  It's all good.  Cool

I swam in the lake today.  Pretty big swells and a lot of chop.  Could be a tough swim if the wind doesn' t calm down some.

Thanks, for the info.  I guess I will pump up around 5pm and hope that 8:30 next morning it will be fine.  This is my first HIM also so planning on leaving my wetsuit with my bike overnight.  In the morning take my trans bag with me, wear my tri stuff with a t-shirt.  When I get to T1, I will put the shirt in the bag provided to be dropped off at finish.  Will leave transition bag with bike (it's not very big).

Oh please let the wind die down!

The lake always kicks up quick because it is not that deep. I see that they are predicting 10-15 ENE winds during the day. ahh....I hope they dont cancel the swim.

anyone know what the max wind speed for a swim? i would be terribly upset if I can not complete the whole event.

I typically borrow a pump in the am and verify tire pressure, no one to give my pump to if I brought it.  Low tire pressure will slow you down and make you work harder. Just a thought.  Thanks Rob for making the reservation, see everyone there.
