Veteran 170 | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE I looked at the 2010 Specialized Ruby Elite today. The limited edition looks awesome (bight pink on black) and it supports the Komen breast cancer cause. The great part is that my LBS has financing available. Might be getting a new set of wheels in the next 2-3 months! |

Veteran 170 | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE Mo, What is your opinion on triathlon camps? I ran across a 5-day one in Orlando for $500. Seems like a good deal considering that it covers lodging and meals in addition to all 3-sports training. |

Regular 78 | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE aswimr - 2009-08-01 1:36 PM I am in for the challenge. I ran a 5k race this morning, and went 7 minutes faster than I did in March. Felt good, and gave me some confidence going into the next tri. 7 minutes faster????? That is freakin' awesome. Congrats! |

Regular 78 | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE So far, it seems like our group did a lot of decent training for the month of July. I am extremely happy with my July swim\bike\run training. I don't think I have ever posted such big numbers for my swim times and distances before. Note: My total bike distance look a looks a little low b\c a lot of times I was biking indoors and didn't have the digital readout of how far I went. My goal for the month of August is to start improving on my biking.

Regular 190 | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE Wishing I would have gotten more bike in, but I have been really concentrating on my run. I am finding a better balance with the swimming, getting some more speed work in as I can hold pace forever, but haven't been improving that pace. Swim: 2h 37m-7655.29 yd Bike: 2h 28m-42.3mi Run: 7h 06m-42.59mi |

Member 153 ivy, va | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE Hey everyone - just a gentle reminder to please be aware and always wear a helmet when you bike. Not trying to raise a fuss, but I know we've had at least two bike accidents in our group this summer. Two of my friends who are both very experienced riders have crashed as well. One was by himself. He was going 26mph when a well intentioned golden retriever ran from its yard and took him down. The other was in an experienced group training ride. Someone tried to pass and misjudged moving in front - tires grazed and she went down. Both incidents required ambulances and involved broken bones - collarbone, wrist, cracked ribs... and some serious road rash and bruising. Both helmets shattered, but thank God no head injuries. Please, please, please stay alert and wear your helmet. Can't always control what we're going to encounter out there. |

No vested intrest here, but I recently got a Road I.D. wristband for those reasons that Wilma mentioned. Has all of my contact info on it, and my wife's contact number. I bought it because a runner in our area got hit on a country road while she was running 3 weeks ago and until a nurse at the hospital recognized her and knew who to call, no one knew who she was. Since I am always training by myself, and mainly out in the country, it scared my wife enough to make me spend the $20. |

Master 1996 Woodbridge , Virginia | Subject: RE: MOMO - (CLOSED) IN TRAINING MODE Good call D, Brain buckets are very important.. Bike wrecks hurt pretty bad. i had a crash doing about 27mph and was still building speed.. went over some uneven terrain.. bike went airborne, 270 degrees of free spin on crank, the bike landed and launched me right over the handlebars. bruised ribs, shoulders, and tons of scars.. i hit my head on a man hole cover (it was elevated about an inch above surface). split helment in two.. broke a big chunk out behind right ear.. (where i my head hit the cover). i felt fine, i should have went to the emergency room that day, i didn't that was stupid. just imagine if i didn't have a helmet on. dead or a vegtable.. WEARING A HELMENT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE |

Since I am always training by myself, and mainly out in the country, it scared my wife enough to make me spend the $20. While I realize it is smart to wear a Road ID, especially if you have a medical condition or are allergic to certain meds, I think some folks don't want to spend the $20. For me, I don't have any medical conditions and am not allergic to anything. So you know all those unsolicited address labels you get in the mail? Before I go out on a run or bike, I take one of those and stick it to my watch band. My name and address would be enough to figure out who to call and get my insurance info in the event I was taken to the hospital and unable to relay that info myself. And now I don't just toss those labels in the recycle bin. |
