Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Nibbs XIV zipp1 - 2008-04-06 12:22 PM kaqphin - 2008-04-05 7:17 PM Oh, that's an interesting history of things for some of the newer faces around the boards. Those 'not in the loop" might find pulled or frozen threads a problem if they were on them--but I can't think of any reason why one would resurrect some of the htreads when so many topics keep getting rehashed by new members. (i e how many threads have been polls on the benefits of yoga verses pilates or questions for the millionth time on what a woman is to wear in a tri--or best sports bra options for those well endowed ladies--heaven knows it aint me!)TriAya - 2008-04-06 12:14 PM kaqphin - 2008-04-05 7:11 PM D001 - 2008-04-06 12:08 PM kaqphin - 2008-04-05 7:21 PM It would be frozen, like a fishsicle. Current challenge threads are ok. Past challenge threads get frozen. We can have one off-topic thread on the forum. That's why we were asking about alternative names to "Nibbs" - to make it more generic, and so that everyone knows they can wander in here if they want to chat. What was wrong with the flying fish thread? it had nothing on a lot of the TAN or Nibbs threads We could always start a new one! huh? Ive never seen any of this stuff posted up anywhere... is it part of the tigher control on the forum? Is that why marma is now a moderator on the forum? There were a bunch of threads yanked and warnings posted on April Fool's day, but no joke. That's why I posted in here about the CoJ yankings that day and wondered whether we'd be part of the fallout ... That all happened while i was sleeping.... the COJ freezing was a planned april fools day joke - I was talking to one of the mods later on in the day... They ARE serious about tighter controls on content in threads as this IS a family site really but nothing in the challenge forum has come close to a lot of what is posted in COJ..
As for the yankings... happens every 6 months to a year that everyone starts pushing the boundaries then a bunch of threads get pulled nad everyone settles down again... seem to be part of the BT life cycle! As is the whole big debate type threads that offend someone, then someone else will post something about why BT is great and everyone will start to fall in line... tis almost too predictable! haha thats true... its more of a COJ thing... sometimes VERY old threads get revived for one reasone or another... usually as a bit of a joke... usually quite entertaining actually But in Tri Talk it definatley is much of a muchness most of th time... but thats because thee are always new people getting into the sport and i think thats a great thing... Just because a discussion isnt new to me, its probably new to a whole bunch of people just joined the site or even people that are lurking not yet posting so I figure they have their benefits! |

Threads like that wouldn't be frozen. BT is meant to be a place where people can ask questions. There are always new people joining, so yes, they'll ask questions that you may have seen before. In the Challenge forum, we get a lot of teams each month. So it gets crazy when one challenge is ending and another is starting. (As we've all seen! LOL) Threads from the old challenge will be frozen a week after the challenge ends. We're allowed to have one "off topic thread" (Nibbs) active at a time. (Older Nibbs also have to be frozen.) CoJ has some new guidelines, too. They're described here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid... |

Dee - I dont think the threads used to get frozen though... thats correct isnt it? So this is a new initiative? Are you talking about the Challenge forum? Yes, it's something new. That's why Phil came in to tell us that he's a fishsicle. Because the Flying Fish thread is now frozen. It's being done to reduce old threads from being bumped to the top of the Challenge forum. This way, it'll only be the current challenge threads that are near the top. |

Interesting. My take on this was different.... I didn't think the events were related. I just figured that now that Marma is working for BT full time, he just was able to have more of a presence here. He's a moderator on all the forums now. |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Nibbs XIV As for CoJ, well, being a moderator there is a lot more work than being a mod here! It makes sense that they may need more "guidelines" and moderator overview than here. The challenge forum is all about teams working together. We don't get the "controversies" that CoJ often sees! So I just went with dueling peeps. Someone on my team did a peep stew though. |
