I'm sort of thinking, that along with higher than average incomes, triathletes probably have higher than average intelect...

Excluding those in TAN, of course...

Maybe. Maybe not. Former-triathlete-ex-boyfriend was not the regular "smarty-pants" guy that I usually date. Didn't make a difference to me, though.

cuz a hot bod makes you ignore the rest of the package.  I get it...

You're such a dude...

Haha. He really WAS freakin' hot. But no, that's not why I dated him. To date, he was actually the best boyfriend I've had. He actually really liked that I was smart and opinionated and had things to say - and he valued my opinion. He told me that several times and never saw it as a negative thing.

Tri14kix - 2008-09-17 2:09 PM I heard some report a time ago where smart girls acted dumb and even worked at getting bad grades because they believed boys were intimidated by smart girls.

I have never compromised my grades, but I will admit to holding back on the smartness a little so boys don't think I'm a "smarty-pants". No one likes that. I don't readily offer any of this information up to guys I'm dating or trying to date. If it comes up in convo, then great. Last guy I dated, we were talking about grad school and he said something about earning "distinction" on his grad school comprehensive exam - I also earned the same on my comp exam, so I said "oh, cool, me too!" And he gave me a high-five and we revelled in our nerdiness together But usually I keep my mouth shut until they ask. The wit, however, I do not hold back much on (though I keep it clean, unlike here :-P). It's a good way to snag their interest at first Guys like a witty girl, it seems.

re:smarty pants.  Yeah that works if I don't say anything about my educational background or work experience.

Well I'm off to a civil engineering class on water quality modeling where we're going to talk about numerical solutions to advection-diffusion models.  You kids have fun.

Yeah, I don't know if I would say that uniformly about triathletes.

Of course not.  The statistical average.

Seems to me that most of people in TAN seem smarter than your regular joe.  Maybe TAN draws them, or maybe triathlon.

I think TAN draws them in because it's easier to identify with people "like" you when they are all in a little group.

It's triathlon. We're mostly better-than-average income earners (because you HAVE to be to do this sport) meaning most of us are more educated than the average bear. Maybe not THE bear, but the average bear.

Sure, income has something to do with it. But there are plenty of idiots out there who make a lot of money. And there are plenty of folks like me who don't. Or people who are in school, like Cami or Artemis, etc.

haha, oh, I never do stuff like that. I usually date engineers/math/numbers/finance types, so we are usually 'smart' about different things - though often, they also like to read etc, or know a bit about art or music, etc. It's cool when they know about music - only dated one guy who did (very briefly) and we both liked that we could talk about that subject at a much deeper level than anyone else we knew. We also swapped a book or two because he is also an avid reader. But again, he went for the pretty but dumb girl...moron.

Depends. I don't like weirdo, artsy-guys. No musicians-by-trade. Last guy was an economist who used to play the saxophone. That is cool. Musicians and artists are too weird - I've spent enough time with those types. But if you know crap about words and books, yeah, that's hot.
