I am happy to say I beat that challenge! I more than doubled April's distance on the bike, and beat April's run by about 2 miles. Not much, but I'll take it.

I am a little ashamed to say I haven't gotten any swimming in yet. But I'm hoping to start this week.

Last day for the May challenge!  I am about to head out for a 25km bike ride so that I can beat my April total.

I too beat all my mileage from April.  But I now decided to try and beat May's totals in June.  I shouldn't have done so well in May!!

Hey everyone, finished my first tri on Sunday.  Just finished my race report.

 Iron Clad Tri

Learned a ton in this race..
1) Practice more race time situations ie: organizing the transition.  Clipping in on the run and positioning of my bike pedals.  Race pacing
2) Trust your instincts.  ie: during the swim I started at the back of my wave due to my panic attack during my first race.  I'm a much stronger swimmer now and should have started in front of the wave.  It cost me big time..
3) Running cross country and through hilly woods is very hard!
4) maybe buy a tri-bike sooner rather than later (anyone know of a size 56 used tri-bike for sale?  for some reason i always like buying used.)

Nicely run race that had great volunteers and they provided a full out breakfast buffet right when you crossed the finish line

OMG is it June 1st already!!Surprised

It is finally starting to set in that I am going to do a 1/2 IM.  I am not too nervous yet (ask me in a couple weeks and that will be a different story) but I keep thinking about it.  I keep thinking am I ready, can I do it, I am going r/b/s how far, will I reach my goal time, will I finish, etc??

Last year this time I couldn't imagine running 4 miles, so this is a big difference in my mind!

4 weeks out and I am already worrying Smile  What am I going to do when/if I do an full IM?!?

Good tip, I too forget how much my swimming has improved and would have started in the back of my pack.

Get on it!! =)

Swimming is sooo tough to get in shape for, so when you DO start I think you'll want to mix in swimming, kicking, a little pulling and LOTS of drills (like, half of your first few days back in the water!).

Your action photo looks great!  Glad you found things to work on...I've done about five triathlons and I know there are still TONS of things to work on myself.  For example, I'd love to be able to do the "flying squirrel" on top my bike out of T1!!!!!!! =

Imagine your nerves on race day!!  Look online or elsewhere for how to mentally prep for the big day.  Training is 90% physical/10% mental.  Race day is 90% mental/10% physical.

You've come far and just trust your body can do it! The goal is to cross the finish line come hell or high water.  You'll make it there.

How's everyone doing? The thread is awful quiet!  I had to pick it up because it was at the bottom of the page! =)

Let's see who can get at least two swims in by the end of the week!

Slow start of the month for me.  I have a busy weekend but am going to try to get a 50k+ ride in on Monday if the weather is nice.

I'm doing a relay tri (the bike portion) this weekend.  Should be fun since there is a large group of us.  I'm on an all womens team.  Last year we placed 2nd....going for the gold this time!  Wink

Happy training to all and happy Friday!

Sorry I have not been around much, but life keeps getting in the way. Racing this weekend, and then I will be back more regularly.

Good luck and have fun at your races and long rides this weekend Laughing

I am feeling a lot more confident about my upcoming race.  When I look back at my training that past couple of weeks I had no idea how much my training had increased.  (r/b/s those distances last year would have exhausted me for a week)

I'm temporarily on the shelf...was running today and rolled my left ankle.  Pretty swollen.  I've got a 5k scheduled for Sun, we'll see if I can make it.  Won't be reaching my weekly goals this week.  Good luck to all who have races this weekend!!

Hey guys, I had a good race this weekend. This swim was the roughest swim leg I have ever been in, lots of pushing, swimming over people and such. I am waiting for the official times to be posted and then I will post my race report.

Glad to hear it went well!

My race did as well.  I felt really good on the bike.  It was nice to go all out and not have to worry about a run afterwards.  Our all female relay placed first!

Congrats to all the racers last weekend!

Sorry I have been MIA- I was on service last week.  I need to figure out how to make it not consume my life, but it's just stressful knowing that at any minute any of the patients might get sicker and need me to come in, or I might get called with an admission.  We are also moving in 2 weeks, which causes added stress, but I've been a little better this week, and have signed up to run on the treadmill before my ED shift tonight.

Hey folks!!!

I got in a great "uber-mini" vacation this weekend.  I managed a little run, but that's about it.  I'm working evenings the rest of the week, so I should be a little more active in checking your blogs.

I've had some questions about prepping for particular distances.  It just depends on how much time you have to spend in the pool.  Ideally, we all should be in the water at least 3 days/week, but sometimes that just isn't possible.

I recommend to swim a minimum of your race distance if you can only swim one day/week.

2 days/week- one day should be long swims, the other with some shorter sprint sets.

3+ days/week - one day long swims, one day short swims, the other(s)-depends on your strengths/weaknesses. I can definitely give you an idea on particular swim sets.

Keep up the hard work! And, keep sending each other inspires.  You all know how nice it is to log in and see inspires waiting for you to read. =)

Did my first open water swim yesterday, and I am glad I did.  I am a MUCH better swimmer then I was last year, so I am no longer at the back of the pack just waiting for the next wave to pass me by.

Last night I started at the towards the back. (about 50 people starting together) Most of the time I was swimming into peoples feet, into the side of people, people swimming into me.  It doesn't bother me, but wasn't something I considered.

My goggles fogged up big time making it VERY hard for me to sight, but I still did a good time staying on course.  I get to practice two more times in the open water, so I should get it down before my race.  I am sooooo glad I get this practice in open water with a group start.

That's really great practice for your race!

Good job on being comfortable in open water and improving on your swimming skills!

Ah. the foggy goggles. Some swimmers swear by spitting in their goggles and smudging it around.  I personally lick the inside instead.  They still fog.  I bought "fancy" triathlon goggles (which feel like a snorkel mask compared to what I usually wear) and holy cow what a difference in sighting!  The guy who sold them to me suggested washing with soapy water after each use and using anti-fog.  I'm going to have to try out this anti-fog business for myself... more money into triathlon!
