Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge skrtrnr - 2009-05-01 4:44 AM morning lovely ladies. leave and come back, five pages later! holy macaroni! just a quick intro then finish up to get my boys ready for school and then ill be back to respond (course by the time i get back there will be like five more pages to respond to. YOU ARE AWESOME!!) Stacie is my name. Tri'in' is my game. I came to tris quite by accident - developed a mortons neuroma from all the running i was doing - so in the time i had to take off running, i picked up cycling and swimming. SO GLAD I DID. i had a feeling when i started running that i would LOVE Tris and turns out i do. it'd be my HAPPY PLACE. i did my first mini last SUNDAY and had a BLAST im totally hooked. never goin' back to runnin exclusively. no way no how. im a reluctant stay at home mom of three boys Garrett (12), Mitchell (9) and Carson (7) i live in a suburb just north of Pittsburgh w my dear husband, said children, and our bogelen terrier (beagle/boston terrier mix) Juniper the Wonder Dog. though im reluctant to be at home full time (i have a Masters in Professional Counseling, shhhh. dont tell anyone they get all weird around me when i do) it does afford me lots and lots of freedom/time to do what i wanna do when i wanna do it. my dh is a gem and puts up with ALL my tri'ing shenanigans. [he even asked me to do the run leg with him on the Adventure Tri here in PGH, wasnt that sweet of him?? he doesnt know i cant run fast, he just knows i can run far. teee heeee] im looking forward to my first full Sprint Tri May 17th. im running a 10K marathon relay leg in the Pittsburgh Marathon this Sunday. and im doing the MS150 the first weekend in June. the summer will be 'quieter' as far as racing and trng what w the kids home from school. im hoping to be totally jonesin'/getting used to/and trying not to fall off my new 'big girl bike' and for my obligatory trash talk... BOYZ, YOUR GOIN' DOWN!!!! stacieb morning Stacie! congrats on your first race! I guess I missed it in the race reports! sounds like a busy summer....have a good race this weekend! and you are ohhhhhhh so right about the boyz...they will have no idea what hit them! |

Master 1734 On a lake in the Adirondacks in NY | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge blujay65 - 2009-05-01 9:40 AM This morning was my first pool challenge day... Magic in the pool! I only just recently linked freestyle laps to do 100's without feeling out of breath or losing my form. I could do many mixed stroke laps, but going all free had been eluding me. Today alone in the pool, my free was feeling well, very comfortable. So I decided I would go for 200 linked free (no stops). Set my timer and was off, got to 200 and felt so good I kept on going. Somehow, I did 1000 all free without stopping!!! I still can not believe it. It did take me 24 minutes, I am slow, but I never felt winded and I never lost my form! I am so happy today! My total for the day is 2000 yds. Awesome start to the challenge! I love those good swims. They just make you smile all day. (And it is wasn't really slow.) |

Master 1734 On a lake in the Adirondacks in NY | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Okay, I'm caught up, and I've wiped the drool off my desk. For those who don't know me, I'm Debbie. I am training for my very first sprint tri in June. I just started getting in the pool to actually do swim workouts in February, but I'm pretty happy with the way the workouts are going. I'm not doing 3000+ yard workouts yet, though! I try to stick pretty closely to my plan, so my first swim workout in May isn't until Monday. (But don't worry, I'll get my workouts in.) Great job everyone who got in the pool today! |

I will come watch an IM and will be the best cheerleader round!..I have seen my brother become an IM...and will soon go watch my dd become one in Cozumel...but I think I would have to camp in between each transition for me to finish...is there a camping IM out there??? then, Im in! skrtrnr - 2009-05-01 7:19 AM LazyMarathoner - 2009-05-01 6:47 AM Since it's officially day one, I'll introduce as well, although I know most of you from other teams. I'm Kristin, I'm training for Ironman Wisconsin (19 weeks to go!!!!). It's my second season of tris, I did two sprints and an oly last year and have done an HIM so far this year. May 9 will be the one year anniversary of the first time I ever got in a pool, took a lesson and swam a lap. Learning to swim was the best thing I ever decided to do, it got me into this sport and it's allowing me to do an Ironman. I haven't set a goal yet, my coach is a little late with my schedule :/. I'm guessing it will be around 18,000y or so, maybe more. I have to wait and see what he has planned for me, hopefully no later than tomorrow. Looking forward to swimming with all of you and shaming those boys! HI KRISTIN. to go from swimming one lap to doin' an IROMAN. in a years time?? woosh. THATs impressive. w a swimmer like YOU in our midst, THE BOYS AINT GOT NOTHING ON US! stacieb I did the same thing - first Mary, then first tri was a HIM and then IM 2 months later, in the same year - 2007. I was a glutton. Now, working harder this year on a more aggressive goal for IM Moo in Sept. YEAH, BABY! |

I think I might too. I was worried the cold-from-hell (TM) would keep me from any workouts for a couple of more days, but despite the snot-filled head still, I finally almost feel like a real person today. A short swim in my spa-like pool may be just the ticket. |

Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge kromanowski - 2009-05-01 8:46 AM Lets see if that worked... morning all... I am Julie...I used to race mtn bikes, retired 5 years ago and in late 2007 I lost a family member who was an active BT member and was attempting an IM. I decided to do a tri in her honor and now I am into my second year of racing...and I am hooked! I plan on doing my first OLY this year and maybe the SJ rock n roll marathon at the end of the year. as well as some smaller tris, 1/2 century rides, and some fun runs. I am just beginning to like to swim and will sometimes need a gentle shove from you to get there! I will usually choose a bike ride or run over a swim! funny how that is Finally, I work as an Event Specialists....and this weekend is the kick off of our Summer in the City...this afternoon, I will be setting up for a Latin Jazz Orchestra who will perform in the Courthouse Square from 6-8pm. Will head back at the crack of dawn for this weekend's Asian Art Festival...then starting this week (every week during the summer) we hire musicians to perform a few times a week from 11am - 1pm (lunch hours) for people who carry out food or bring a sack lunch to the square....During the evenings we offer a weekly Wednesday nite free Movie Nite (big HUGE BLOW UP SCREEN we set up...and we sell $1 popcorn/candy) On Thursday evenings we offer free dance classes to the community...salsa, hip hop, line dancing, tango (we have dance schools come out and perform and offer classes/free dance at the end) I will meet my swim goals!! PROMISE....and in fact Im heading to the pool in the next hour! LETS GO TEAM! |
