Ok.  I skipped swim and run today to try to get myself together.  Doesn't sound smart to exercise.  I didn't exactly tell the doc the type of work outs I wanted to do.  Tomorrow is the first Splash and Dash I wanted to do.  It was supposed to be 1000 yards.  Just what I needed.  Can you even believe I have a sinus infection?  I'm feeling so defeated.  Believe it or not I'm normally a very positive person.  I'll try to get my sparkle back.  I promise.

BTW - I'm a lawyer too.  I'm "inactive" but I have my license.   Isn't it interesting we have 2 lawyers and 2 artists?  Maybe its is the right brain/left brain connection.

Keep up the good work.  Is everyone still going 10 minutes extra for me?

Got in my swim today.  I will go for a run tonight as I still have to get caught up on the Halloween Run Challenge.

I had clean eating yesterday, which is good, and plan to do so again today.

Here's to good training and good eating!  Have a good day everyone.

Congrats on the clean eating Leah. I've been much better this week myself as well. Not perfect but on track for the most part.

I suppose it's past due time for a swim for me again so I'm going to walk to the pool and swim for an hour or so this afternoon.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Well, you definitely sound cheerier and that is encouraging.  Glad you're feeling better.  Ah, the magic of chemicals and drugs.

So I've rested all week and I'm ready to bike.  I can't wait.  There will be about 5 us tackling a beautiful 30 mile course.  I warned everyone that I will be slow since I've been out of commission for a while.  Wish me luck.

What are you al up too?  Any plans for the weekend?

It will be a running weekend for me as Chuck and I are going up to San Luis Obispo to see his daughter and granddaughter.  I have Monday off for Columbus Day and so it will be a long weekend.

Enjoy your "beautiful 30 mile course."  There is just something wonderful about biking where it is beautiful.  When I can, I love to bike along Pacific Coast Highway.  It doesn't get more beautiful than that, in my opinion.  Too bad it takes me an hour to get there.  If you can post a picture of your ride.  And if your colleagues are tolerant of this being a "getting back into commission ride," so much the better.

I got in a terrific rn this morning.  I ran to one of my restaurants where Chuck meets me for breakfast, so it is a familiar run.  But I ran the whole way (meaning I was consistent with  a 3 min run and 1 min walk ratio) and never faded.  There must be something to the concept of regular running to make you a better runner.  I was really stoked about that because it wasn't so good last time I did this route.

Have a god weekend everyone.  I am off in about two hours for a visit with Chuck's daughter and her family.  Should be very nice and low-key.

I've always wanted to visit SLO. I've heard nothing bu good things about it. How do you like it over there? I'd just like to visit CA in general. I've been to the NW (seattle, victoria) but never to CA.

My swim went well probably my longest swim ever I did 2600 yards in about 1:15-1:20. I only was going to do an hour but the swim felt more comfortable then usual so I wanted to take advantage of the extra energy.

Not sure what's on the plate for today debating between a rest day and a bike ride. Husbands home and I don't like to do my long rides while he's here, so if I do it will be a trainer ride. Also it's pretty unusually cold here now (low 50s high and 30s low!!) and I haven't accumulated cold weather riding gear.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Wow! a 2600 yard swim?  I have never done a swim that long.  Congrats on keeping going when it was going so well.  I know what you mean about not like to do long rides or whatever when the fella is home.  If he is anything like mine, he is only moderately tolerant of all the time that "training" takes and wonders when I am going to fit him in.

I like SLO.  It is really nice here.  Every time we visit them, I think to myself that I could handle living here.  It is about halfway between where we live now and where my grandchildren live so it does have some compromise geographic appeal.

Hey gang.  The ride went well.  I just tried to post some photos.  I went to google images and typed in mcdowell mountain regional park and fountain hills, az.  That is where we road.  I love it.  Since we go early in the morning we get to see the sun come up too.  I'll report more later.

Thanks!  It is one of my favorite rides.  I'm happy with how it went.  I went with my hubby, my bro-in-law, and two people new to riding.  It was a nice easy pace.

One funny story.  We got up this morning to ride and it was freezing!  I layered up by putting my running pants over my bike shorts and put on a long sleeve shirt over my bike shirt.  Everyone else had on sweat shirts.  As we were waiting around complaining about the cold weather, someone decided to actually check to see how cold it was.  It was 60 degrees!  We are such wimps here in Phoenix!  By the end of the ride it was 72 and perfect.

I had some coughs but overall was in pretty good shape.  I really paid attention to hydration today too.  Unfortunately, my little guy and my mom woke up with the flu.  Poor things.  I thought we were in the clear.

Tomorrow I hope to get out and run!!  I've got to get a lot of miles in before the end of the month.

Those pictures were beautiful, but I will still take the coast.  But it does sound like a wonderful ride, comfortable pace, convivial company, terrific scenery and getting to watch the sun rise.

Yes, you must get out there and run run run.  Log those miles.  We need to WIN.  Glad you are feeling better and so sorry about your son and mom now being sick.

OK.  I've got two days in a row!  Today I went for a 4 mile run.  If felt ok.  Nothing close to the awesome runs I had a few weeks ago.  I'm ok with it though.  I'm just happy to get moving.

Now that I am feeling better I noticed my eating has been out of control.  I think I need to start logging again.  I seem to have no will power when left alone.  I kind of wish BT had a food system on it so I could do it all here.  I really like the daily plate's set up.

I've looked around at the logs and it looks like everyone is doing VERY well.  It is awesome to see everyone in such a good groove.  Congrats and keep it up!

Guess what I did tonight?  I booked my hotel for the HIM!  I didn't get my first choice but I found a place that looks like I will be about a mile from transition where my family can easily check out the run.  We have to do 2 loops so the can potentially see me 4 times.  EXCITING!

I am also looking for training plans.  One guy on another tread suggested this one.  I thought I'd share with you all since some of you are thinking about it too.  Not quite sure what plan to use but this looked decent.  At least it looked user friendly and easy to read.  I actually understand what it is saying.  That isn't the case on some of the other plans out there.  Let me know if you have any other suggestions on plans.    http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon-training/Half-Ironman-Training.php

Glad you got yoru room.  I am at the Days Inn.  Although I did not ask for the military discount, apparently I got a military discount run.  Hopefully that won't be a problem when it comes time to check in.  I don't expect to get the military discount rate.

As for training programs, my bike coach seems to be giving me running workouts as well as biking ones.  He knows I go to the Rose Bowl Masters Swim workouts so he doesn't bother with swim workouts.  So, I guess that's what I am going to do.  So, I guess I am not doing the 20 week marathon training program any more, which was going to be my run training plan.

More about the sea lions and dolphins later.

Hi you all,

I am finally back home for a few days and I need to use the time to post. I have been pretty much travelling since the beginning of September now and I am getting tired of it.

I have 1 flight in the middle of this week and then another on Friday and then I spend the weekend in Germany again flying back home Monday. And after that I will be home until we leave on our "summer" vacation on Oct 30th. It will be nice to get somewhat of a routine again.

I have been struggeling with eating a lot while travelling and it bugs me that I can really journal all the exact calories... but I am still wearing my Bodybugg every day and I am just guestimating the calorie intake for now depending on what the scale says (which is not really nice right now).

I am thinking of going low carbs for the last 3 weeks before vacation just to jumpstart my metabolism. I am not exercising that much right now so it should be fine....

I finally had my long awaited doctor's appointment today and I got an MRI and some X-Rays and now I am waiting for the results. Hopefully it is nothing major and something that can be fixed with "the magic wand" lol

After my husbands Ironman in Barcelona the group started to talk about the next Ironman (they pretty much do one a year) and they found that they will do Challenge Copenhagen next year....it's a really nice flat course and I love Copenhagen! And after watching Kona on Saturday I feel really motivated and I would be in denial if I would say that I have not thought about it a little bit It's crazy I know.... but I will need to play it by ear for now as we definitely have some other plans for next year (something with family planning ) and if they work out then I might not get to do any TRIs at all next year....but of course if it does not work out I can always start training for it and see how it goes.

But for to even start training I would want to get down to at least 165lbs and that means focusing on weightloss for a few months first.... it's all so overwhelming....

OK enough from me

I hope you all have a great day

Hey Ladies,

Well Week #2 is in the bag, and still feeling good. This week the running plan is a little lighter, and the whole week will be a little lighter overall as on Thursday morning I head out to Chicago for 6 days for my nephews wedding. Will continue running there, but probably won't get in any bikes or swims (may bike if i'm super motivated).

It's going to be a challenge to watch my diet while on "vacation" particularly with the wedding reception insanity, my nephew and his friends really know how to party. It'll be great seeing my sister who had gastric bypass on new years and has lost >100 pounds. We've lost a person between us!

Also looking forward to getting into the city for a couple days - to visit Intuit and the new modern art wing of the art institute (victorian photocollage exhibit - heck ya!). A couple friends of ours are coming in from michigan to join us. And! i'm excited to get together with an old high school buddy to discuss our possible cross country bike journey for summer 2010. Her mom has even offered to be our sag wagon! More details about that next week

Off for a big swim followed by a drainer ride later this afternoon, will catch up with inspires later this evening, I've been peeking in on everyones logs - go ladies go - but haven't been sitting down enough to catch up fully!

Watching Kona fired me up!

Run - Run - Run!

I went to that Challenge Copenhagen site and it looks terrific.  I don't think I had heard of the Challenge series before, but it seems to be very well regarded.  I guess the only negative, if it is really a negative, is that it isn't a branded IM and so no "chance" at a Kona slot.  (Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?  And I am getting into "easier" age groups - next year I will be racing in W 55-59.

But I agree with trying a low carb diet.  Try a couple weeks of ONLY lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables - no grains or dairy.  It is possible to do while traveling - I know, I've done it.

And I am also hoping that your medical tests show that a little magic wand waving will do the trick.

Well, Kiri, the thing to do when you go to the wedding is run - run - run and make a plan in advance as to what and how much you will eat and drink and then stick to it.  It is the only way to survive these things.  Good luck and have fun.
