iowagander - 2010-01-06 9:17 PM Hey Ghoulies! This must be the month/year for momentus change for the Ghoulie crew. I just found out today that I will have to leave active duty soon and am about to begin my job search. I am not looking forward to this, but there are options out there. Thanks in advance to you all for being a sounding board for all the frustrations and joys to come while I restart my life.

Oh boy what a change.  I wish you the best of luck with the impending job search.

ironannekidd - 2010-01-07 5:16 AM Ok, I was too tired when I left work yesterday to go to the Y to sit in the steam room. Not sleeping well for a week is really taking a toll on me.

I did take a long hot bath last night with menthol bubble bath. I also had the vaporizer running in the bathroom while I was in there. Just me, my iPod, and a few magazines, it was sooo nice. I should have had a glass of wine, what was I thinking?

When I got out of the tub I sat by the vaporizer with a towel over my head and it, and breathed in some vapor for a few minutes.

I was able to sleep almost all night, in my bed even, without any major coughing fits.

Hopefully I'm on the upswing now and can kick this thing so I can get a short run in tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!!!

That's great!  Glad you were able to get a full night's sleep.  I hope you are right and things continue to improve from here on out!

Ann(e) Cool I hate when that happens.

Any news on your job interview yet?

A friend of mine works where I interviewed. She told me earlier in the week that the clearinghouse that handles the processing of new hires is backed up about 60 people deep. So they are slow right now in sending out offer letters and such, so there is still hope. The team that I am hoping to get a job with is also the last group that will get notified, so it could be awhile.

Does anyone have a recommendation for insoles for my day-to-day shoes? I am having some plantar pain since I started wearing this new pair of keens, and I want to prevent it from becoming full-blown PF. I have a history with shin splints, over pronate when I run, but have always loved the convenience of slip-on shoes. Would superfeet be overkill for these shoes? Should I go use the Dr Scholl's thing at the store to see what it recommends?

If I see a Self-Sustaining Millionairre job out in your area I'll let you know!

That would be ideal, but I'd even settle for self-sustaining thousand-aire

I have no knowledge of superfeet.

I did use the Dr. Scholl's thing at the store and bought the insoles they recommended, my PT said they weren't very supportive though and I ended up getting custom made orthotics.

I'm not sure how they'd work with slip-on shoes. Are you talking clogs, that have no back to them or a loafer type shoe?

Well here is to good news!  We need some around The Village with everything that has come down recently!

There had been a lot of junk thrown at the Ghoulies lately, but that all happens away from here. THE VILLAGE is a safe haven. This is a great place to come to to deal with the issues on the outside.

If you need a kick in the pants, you can get it here.

If you need someone to tease you for something you said or did, you can get that here.

If you need a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen, you can get all of that here, too.

I believe there is an ancient saying that goes something like ... it takes a village to raise a TRIATHLETE!

Well HERE IS THE VILLAGE!!!

WE ARE ALL STRONG!

WE ARE ALL ROCKSTARS!!

AND SOON WE WILL ALL HAVE AWESOME T-SHIRTS!!!!

GO GHOULIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, that blows.  How long have you been in?  Retire time?  You looking to stay in CA or move?  What rate are you/what are you looking to do?  I can put my ear to the ground out here if you are looking to relocate....

I've got 10 years in, and I'm currently a Lieutenant, Junior grade (O-2). I had 7 years enlisted time, and 3 as an officer so far. I'm starting my search locally, including a couple ways I may be able to affiliate with the Reserves but get an active duty job. If it looks like I'll be going "civilian" I will also be looking at jobs back home in Minnesota and in Phoenix where I have some family.

My background is pretty diverse (mix of technical, management, customer service, public speaking, and recruiting with a B.S. in Management) but my focus at first is going to be government service or contracting jobs and/or engineering firms. However, I'm willing to entertain any and all possibilities.

ETA: Bill - Yes I had an inkling that this would be coming, but the timeline they dropped on me yesterday took me by surprise. To make the story very short, I have to be off the active duty books by March 1st and because of the administrative mechanics with which I'll be getting out I will NOT be eligible for separation pay/severance.
