So much for a run-centric workout plan.  It's hard to get out and run when there's so much snow on the ground.  I'm such a cold weather weenie.  Thank God for my bike trainer.  Tomorrow, I'm either going to brave the cold or hit the treadmill at the gym.  Valentine's Schmalentines!

Ugh - you and me both - my running has been AWFUL in Feb. because of extreme cold or snow - today I've got to suck it up and go out for a long run, dodging the ice on the road!!

I wimped out and went to the gym instead. A treadmill at 70 degrees is much more fun than a run through the park at 40. Plus, they have a jacuzzi!

Yay nice weather 50 ish today.  I got in my first hill ride today + 2675 feet over a 24 mile ride.  Was designed as a short ride.  I will get all the way to the top of that hill on longer rides.

Fun fun time to build.  Workouts were 5 hours last week, 7.5 hours this week, 11 hours next week...

Hey baowolf, thats pretty cool you think in terms of workout hours also. I have been logging mine in a workout journal for 4 years. Sadly, at times they very drastically but now with training for this Tri I like the numbers.

Mine this past week: 7.25 Hours.

Anybody else track that way?

Have a great week everyone.

I always track my overall weekly hours to watch and make sure I am building my time gradually (and sometimes to make sure I'm not totally slacking off!!)  I had right around 9 hours of S,B,R, but threw in a few hours of skiing and weights/yoga.  This week I'm up to 10 hours of S,B,R plus the other stuff!

I like to s/b/r by distance, for consistancy, but my plan is often in minutes and I do use hours to judge total workout load for the week, etc.  So if my bike is over timewise at 2 hours, but I am a half mile off a nice round number I might just finish it off.  I remember one ride timewise I would end up at 97.5 miles.... I just had to finish it off for my first 100 mile ride.  Tri ing I find makes me a little more OCD in making the numbers come out even.  It bothers me to run 99 miles in a  month.  Not terribly, but I might just go and jog an extra mile to make it prettier.

That is too funny - triathlon totally feeds my OCD - not always in a good way!!

For the recent 1/2M run training I used mileage instead of time becasue the training plan I used was in mileage.  When I loaded the training plan into my log I included time estimates based on what the run was to be so I could track the overall volume.

But for Tri training I'm going back to volume based.

Oh my, that bike TT test I did tonight totally smoked me.

Warmup HR 111, first 10:00 of TT = 151, last 20:00 of TT = 171 maxing at 178 in the last 90 seconds.  Oh my gosh, soooo tired.  That puts my LT up 6 beats over last year's test.  Just wow so much fun I think I will do it again soon. ... like next February... 8).

I've got the Cowtown coming up in a little over 2 weeks.  I'm only doing the 5K.  I pushed pretty hard last night and noticed that when I took off my shoes afterward, my left big toe was really sore when I bent it.  My knees are a little sore this morning as well.  I'm running on sidewalks mostly, would a switch to a rubber running track take care of these kind of aches or is it just something I should get used to?

I would take a look at your shoes for the toe issue - are they old or too small?  Sidewalks are pretty brutal on the joints, road is the next choice, but a rubber track would be the very best!!

You're building so you're body will be responding, cool water soaks (55-65F) help a lot with inflammation and soreness.  If you have a rubber track nearby that is the most ideal surface to be running on for now.  Sometimes lacing can help, take a look at some of the lacing options on Runnerworld.

I have to start Jorge's 14 week power cycle here soon, sure wish I had a power meter now!

Did you do it in the great outdoors or the drainer?

I had to do the TT on the drainer.. too much going on and not enough sunlight in the evening yet.  I could really use another hour of sunlight at night.

It looks like I will be doubling my bike and swim distances from January... not too hard since I was run focused.

Next month should be the fun one, February was just a recover from the mary, and get back on track with the bike and swim.

I think I will be doing a 10 mile race on 3/6.  I will not be in peek shape for it, but oh wel, I can use it as my TT for HR for the runl.

Warning Vent on!!!   Ok so I have a couple pain in the butt meetings today... ya some silver liner, but long.  I get out of work 45 min late, no biggie.  I go to pick up my 1st grader at his Play practice because the wife said pick up your son at play practice.  K so he is not there.  I ask folks, they have no idea if he showed up, who he is, meh so they don't know what happened to my kid.  Alright well maybe my wife changed her mind and picked him up.  I go back to work to call home.  Nope she isn't there, older son has no idea about anything.  I give up and come home.  It turns out he went to daycare after school instead of the play because my wife never took him.  So she knows he is at daycare and not at the play.  Daycare calls home, my son answers it says nope no adults home.  It is now after the time when kids should be picked up.  I go back in, they are all pissy.  They are charging me $140 for being 30 minutes late picking him up.  Further they call back to my home, my daugther answers the phone, nope parent not home.  Daycare threatens me that they were about to call the police for child abandonment and report me.  I drive by and see my wife just hanging out in her car 2 blocks away waiting for the other son to get out of scouts.... she has been waiting there for 1 hour..... and didn't bother to call me or pick up the other son.  I get home the house is trashed as it always is because my stay at home wife doesn't believe in ever picking anything up or washing dishes or clothes or anything.  I am just done.  I get a trash bag and start throwing toys away.  Oh my gosh I was so pissed.  The only reason the kids are in daycare is because the school refuses to transport them home after school.  Which I think is illegal, but who has the time to get a lawyer involved.  Sooo not a happy camper atm.  I guess I will go out and do the dishes for a dinner I did not eat now, take out the trash and maybe do some laundry.  Did I mention she doesn't work outside the home?  Ivey.  Ok rant off go back to tri related issues.

Can you run on the road?  Sidewalks are a very hard surface even more so than asphalt, if you can't get to a rubber track try running on the road instead of the sidewalk.

I can run on the road for most of my workout route. I'll try that next time. Also, I plan on trying a different lacing in my shoes.

Hello Everyone!
I'm going through a rough patch with my back so backing off on the training a bit.  I was just checking out some of the recent 5k races in town and I need to get out there.  Last three I could have had two 2nds and maybe a first based on my 2 year old PR.
There's a 10 next weekend that I'd like to run, hopefully my back gets better quick!

Have a great weekend of training!

Okay, just want to say ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE 2 BEAT KICK! watched some video of it and started trying it today and something just clicked. It makes complete sense. why kick so much when all that kicking just doesnt perform as well as gliding and everything in unison. I think the 2 beat kick is for me.

Anyone else use that, just curious?

(Donto, sorry to hear you have to back off alittle).
