gerald12 - 2010-10-21 5:16 PM How hot does it get in Cozumel? I took a look at the average temps for Nov 28th and it was 82 for the high. 82 does not seem bad to me. Did it get real hot last year?

Keep in mind it's 82 and about 1000% humidity.

The bike didn't feel so hot but that's because the strong cross wind helped cool me off

The run was VERY HUMID though.  I kept dumping water over my head to cool off which was actually a bad mistake.  My tri shorts got soaked and never dried and I was completely soaked when I finished.  They also chaffed and I also have a lovely "diaper rash" on my a#$ by the end of the night.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what to wear during the swim?  The race bans wetsuits but I looked at previous years races and most of the racers are wearing some type of body suit.  I have read some reviews of the race and a few have mentioned needing something to wear to protect against jellyfish stings.

I just did the swim last week in Cozumel. There were some jellyfish, but their sting was not bad at all. I used a tri suit and am thinking of using that on raceday. Now with most skinsuits also illegal I don't see much benefit over a normal trisuit. I know there are some jellyfish repelents out there. Maybe worth looking into. (I think bullfrog makes one).

My weekend training is in the air right now.  I just got diagnosed with patellofemorl syndrom on Wednesday so I'm cautious about doing to much on the bike since that is when it flared up last weekend.  I hope to get in a 75 - 100 mile ride on Saturday.  No issues with running so 2 1/2 hour run on Sunday.

How many of you are staying to vacation afterwards?  My wife and I are staying in Cozumel until Friday and in Cancun Saturday and Sunday.  We just heard about a place in Cancun called The City.  We should all go post race and celebrate!

Friday:  90 minute spin and a 9 mile run
Saturday:  1.5 mile swim, 70 mile bike (6.5 hours w/ lots of hills in beautiful Ligonier, PA), 8 mile run
Sunday:  21 mile run.  A little wine and pasta afterwards.

This is my first ironman.  I have completed 5 marathons and 3 IM 70.3 races but I am still not sure if I will be able to endure this race.  I am getting really excited about the challenge though and looking forward to spending Monday at the Wyndham spa and some scuba diving in Cozumel.  This is my first time at posting messages and I want to thank you all for your posts since this has been the best way to educate myself about this race.  Thank you.

I watched a 1 hour show on Endurance Traveller on Ironman Cozumel. It gave a good review of the island and things to do and places to see after the race. I actually TIVOed the show. I think it will be replayed several times

Fri:  20 mi run (last long one, hopefully)

Sat:  swim

Sun:  5 hr ride + 30 min run.

Weather turned this week in Colorado, so getting out has been a bit less fun this week.  Hoping for a few more nice days to ride long.

ETA:  Richard, you'll be fine.  Keep yourself in an aerobic HR zone and just keep pushing forward.  Don't let the doubts creep in.

Last weekend was pretty brutal as well be next weekend also. So this weekend is a little scaled back.

This week, Friday - 2 mile swim, 90 mile bike, 6 mile run
 Saturday - 5 x 3 miles w/30 sec recovery

JELLYFISH!!!! What ??? No one told me about this.  I guess maybe I better look into a tri suit.  I was just planning on wearing swim/tri shorts.

Miami 70.3 tomorrow!!!! woooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooo ;-)

Jellyfish?? one more thing to worry about!!! I'm pretty allergic to bee stings ( I carry an epi pen on the bike as bees have tried to kill me several times on the bike here...)...I am going to look to see if there is a repellent for jellyfish...hmmm

Have a great weekend everyone!...staying in Coz until wednesday, plan to do some snorkling with my sister and husband as neither one scuba dive!

Speaking of diving, anyone have any leads?
Specifically, anyone know of a company that can take me and a couple of friends out while my wife and daughter snorkel nearby?
Is this kind of mixed snorkel/dive common on cozumel?

One month away. End of all my long training did my solo century and transition run felt actually good. Nice reverse tri (it always kicks my butt) today. Next week starts taper for me. Can't wait to get down there wind was brutal today figured about 20 probably will be that way over there. Looking forward to the swim not the bike but gets tired. Run will be just getting it done probably going to do the galloway walk run technique. 3:1 for me works good. Me and the wife are staying at the Palace my brother and his wife are also staying there they are competing too. We get in on wed and leave out tues. Plan on Margaritas from sunday till tuesday. Remember to stay healthy all the trng in the world won't mean anything if you don't make it to race day.

Look up 'Safe Sea' repellent, it's jellyfish repellent & sunscreen in one.

Ran the Marine corps marathon this weekend. 3rd time. Great day to run, but didn't have the best race.
Feeling good today, looking forward to a long swim to recover.
Last long ride this coming weekend (and volunteering at IMFL I think).
Then...TAPER!!!
Looking forward to the race. Can't wait.
