tri808 - 2010-04-02 11:58 AM I was just checking the mileage on some of my shoes, as one pair is nearing 500 miles, but I also noticed that since I started running in June of 2009, I have just hit 1000 miles recently...probably in the last 2 weeks or so.

Not bad I guess...to go from 0 to 1000 miles in 10 months.  Yes...I needed to toot my own horn a little.

Not bad?  100 mile months plus swimming and cycling.  That's solid!

Well...most of my miles were during marathon training...so I was only biking about once a week, and swimming twice...but was running about 120-180 miles per month during the peak of the training program.

So far this year I've been in the 70-85 miles per month range as my biking and swimming volume have increased for tri training.  Trying to "slowly" work it back towards 100...so my base will be solid once marathon training starts again in August.

When is your marathon?
(The one I'm doing at the end of the month will be my first, so I'm really nervous & excited!)

tri808 - 2010-04-02 12:36 AM where is everyone...it's only 7:30 here...lol

hmmm it looks by my time I could have joined you as this is when my phone decided to ring and wake me up! Some boy calling my 14yr old daughter! I realize we are on spring break but no one should be calling my house at that time! Boy did I lay into her! I should go wake her up right now since I can't sleep!

Want me to call the boy back and have a little conversation with him man to boy!!!  I know you have a hubby but I am here to help - I might need some practice since I have a 14 y/o DD as well   But the boys she knows are smarter than that

LOL I thought we were clear on that too! I guess I need to keep a better eye on her...he was calling her back! She has lost the phone! And I made her wake up at 8 and out the door for a run by 9 to the park where she had to spend the morning/afternoon with mom and siblings! Boy was she grumpy! But after our loop around the lagoon she eased up and actually smiled! Not sure we will both survive the teen years!

(The one I'm doing at the end of the month will be my first, so I'm really nervous & excited!)

Last year was my first marathon (December 2009, Honolulu Marathon)...and I plan to do it again this coming December.

I was really excited and nervous too.  But so long as you put in the training, you should be fine.  Start out slow, and enjoy it.  Word of caution though...if you trained hard, you will be surprised how great you feel on race day due to the taper.  My advice is to make sure that you stick to your pace no matter how good you feel...because it's actually supposed to feel "too easy" up till about the half way point...at mile 20 is where the "real" second half of the marathon starts...and you want to make sure you have enough left in the tank to bring yourself home strong.

Good luck...

Thanks for the advice!  I've definitely heard that, too - that mile 20 is the actual 1/2way point of the race.  I hear delirium sets in around mile 22.  I did my 20-miler last weekend (decided on a 4-week taper because I'm training with a group and the schedules didn't line up exactly for a regular 3-week taper), and boy, I did NOT feel like doing another 10k after that!  But I guess there's nothing left to do now but trust my training!

Location: From Edmonton, AB but currently in Brandon, MB to be with my Mom
Tri Experience: This is my first year of training.  I found this site just recently and I thought it would be a great way to add some structure to my training.
2010 remaining races: Leg 7 of the K-100 Relay Race.  I don't have a tri scheduled for this year but I am thinking of trying one this fall.

Wow, a guy misses a day and a half and there is 16 pages of posts to catch up on.  Fun group!

Nothing accomplished so far this month because I woke up yesterday with a really bad cold.  Right now I am throwing everything I can think of at it because I need to get over this quickly.  Thankfully I hadn't scheduled any training for this weekend as I was going to bring my Mom home from the hospital for Easter weekend tomorrow.  Tuesday I will be back on track.

Happy Easter everyone!

Morning workout.  This little beauty is just down the street.  10x with pushups at the top, then a half mile jog to warm down.  The morning after pain never seems to get better after this one!

What is it with these invisible posts?

Edit: I see this has already been addressed so I shall go check out your blog!

Great advice, Jay. My first one will be in Sept and that is always the hardest part for me...sticking to my pace. I somehow managed it in my 1/2 mary and felt GREAT so I'm hoping I remember this come time for mine!
