Wheelcover or not on the 808?  I ask because I hear that the winds may be a problem

Thanks for the weekend training camp Mike!

Chris, you on saturday that you went out a little hard on your run and pulled yourself back in.  Are you just doing that to be in top shape for the race or will you also hold yourself back on race day even if you're feeling well?

Ditto, thanks for organizing it Mike.  And these guys (mike and doug) are really fast.  I mean...  really.  I think I rode with them for about 1/2 mile on the way up, and 2 miles (?) through the campground on the way back, and that definitely wasn't my half pace.  And then the run?  Literally, within about a mile and a half I couldn't see them anymore.

As for my pace, that wasn't out of any strategy, as my race day strategy at this point is summed up in one word:  survive.  I am just not very good at pacing, especially right off the bike.

Looks like I am starting my extreme run taper now, and probably won't run again until 4/2.

Going for my last long ride (60+ miles) and run (13 Miles) today.  I hope to really test my nutrition plan today with no stomach problems.  I have a long swim tomorrow then its tapper time.  I wish I could go with those of you who are going to ride the course this weekend.  I guess I’ll have to wait until Friday before the race to drive it.  I’m going to make sure I have my Army stuff on just to screw with the Jar Heads.  Don’t get me wrong I love my Marines, but I have to sport my Branch.    Cool

Just as an FYI, there's very little of the bike course you can actually drive, other than the bit through the San Onofre campgrounds and a bit of Cristianitos, none of which is actually worth the trouble.

Why is that?  I thought it was along open roads?

Nope, about 1/2 mile in, it enters Camp Pendleton, can't drive on it without military ID.  About 15 miles or so later, it leaves Camp P, but enters bike path on the old landing strip.  Can't drive there.  Then enters the campground, you can drive that, but....   Then it's on a bit of road right before San Onofre nuclear plant, can drive on that, but it's all of 2 miles or so.  Then another bike path just before Cristianitos, which you can drive on for a couple miles, then it enters Camp P again until 1/2 mile before the end.

Ok thanks.  Can you drive the area where the hill everyone talks about is at?  That’s really the only place I want to go.  I’m in the military so getting on post is no issue.

Too early to start obsessively checking considering weather?  I know, it's one of those out of the box things we can't control.  But yet it is a time honored taper tradition.

FWIW (and I understand it isn't a whole lot), this site says high of 60 and sunny for race day.  Sounds pretty perfect

If that weather holds, the low of 40 will make the transition area pretty chilly in the morning. I guess I've found a reason to be happy to be in the last waves, maybe it could warm up to 45 by the time I start.

Oh, another positive, 40 degree air temp makes 58 degree water temp feel like a jacuzzi!

I usually don't trust it until we're on the 10 day forecast; even then it will still change in the days leading up to it.

Will I survive in a sleeveless?

It could depend on your personal tolerance to the cold, but if you have the means and the time, I would recommend renting a full suit. One of the people in my training group tried swimming in a sleeveless a week or two ago and couldn't swim further that 500 yards due to the cold water (57). She is a very strong swimmer (on pace to finish swim in about 33 minutes) and completely locked up. She has since gotten a full suit. I'm not sure where you are located, but shops around me rent them for about $30/week.

Agreed, it won't be close to accurate unitl a couple days before.  Already showing 69     I remember at IMAZ even the night before the April 2008 race ti was showing decent temps and no winds.  Turned out very hot and windy.

Woo! #635.

Swim waves are also now listed with alphabetical breakdown.  So if your age group had two wave you can now see which one you're in and what color cap you'll be.

I'm in Wave 7, starting at 6:59 in a purple cap.
