anesthesiadoc - 2011-02-15 9:56 PM Well, I survived The Canyons without injury.  I was able to ski about 3.5 hours each day for 5 days, so I'm happy with that.  Now that I'm back home, I am getting back into my training program.  I met with my swim coach for the 1st time this evening.  I think that it is going to help out.

How wonderful that you were able to get in that much skiing!!!!

Working 1:1 with a swim coach when you first start out is very helpful...but sometimes overwhelming because they give you so much input at once. Swimming is all about form...if its correct speed and endurance will follow!!!!

Fit4Infinity - 2011-02-15 11:21 AM I'm feeling the love, and its tough love.  RTB Masters Swim Coach is helping with my stroke.  Focus on getting good extension and strong catch before pulling through to the hip.  Now I'm turning my elbow up and that allows me to reach without flailing around.  It's working, It's really working. bfg.  I'm maybe 10 seconds faster on the 100, just this week.  I'm moving so much faster and farther on each stroke I'm reaching the end of the pool before I expect.  I've smacked my arm on the deck a couple of times.  Really cool to have a break through.  Feels good.  But I'm really tired.

Harder and faster swim workout (2500).
WU: 5x100 Swim
DR: 8x25 (25 Dog Paddle catch drill, 25 Count strokes drill)
MS: Really complicated.
       2x {3x250 Build RI 0:10, 1x100 Moderate Recovery, 1x100 Hard Count Strokes.}

YEAH FOR BREAKTHROUGHS...its always so rewarding. 10/`100 is HUGE!!! Congrats!!! Now stop smacking your arm on the deck!!!!!!

I am actually going to join a Masters group at my gym in March. Its always fun to be in a  group that will push you a little...helps to make progress faster.

I sometimes find that I can be lazy in the pool...not really wanting to go fast...so I just get the workout done...

Lobster74 - 2011-02-15 9:53 PM Very quiet group recently.
Hoping to get several double workouts in this weekend as I have a 5 day weekend- whoo hoo! strength training and then went straight to the pool. Did not end up being a great swim for me as I had a long day and was already exhausted before I got there. Did a quick 1000m of 5X200 and then called it a night.
Mav- how is your healing? How long until you can get into the pool?

Mark- that's amazing how a bit of a fix on your stroke is already showing such improvements. I would love to join a masters club but the two around me are on a waiting list. I am looking to take part in a spring swim clinic though.

VERY QUIET INDEED!!!!!

YAY for a 5 day weekend

Great job getting in the pool...even tho you were tired. It doesnt always have to be a stellar workout...sometimes you just gotta get it done

If you check out the US  Masters Swimming site you might be able to find Masters swims that you didnt know about. SOme even allow "drop ins" which are about $5-7/session. This website also lists the various Masters competetions . Some of them are really great. You might want to check it out!!!!

I am finally able to walk a  little. I will say that it has been a tough week for me. Never did I expect that it was going to be this rough.

My MD ended up draining a lot of fluid from my knee which helped a little but the pain was still out of control. She consulted with another MD as  I am "unusual" and they decided to start me on a potent anti inflammatory which seems to be doing the trick. I feel 75% better. Hopefully I will start PT next week.

Honestly...I dont care if I ever run again...I am just so thankful to be walking a little without pain

Hey Michelle, Marcy, One faller, tracy...you guys out there????

@Mav - Welcome back.

@all - Kinda wierd becoming a swim junkie.  Another good swim this am.
Lots of intervals very similar to run training.

Drill without fins really exposed a serious weakness in kick.
A break through to get 1 length without moving backwards.
My ankles and calf muscles are strong at 3:00, need to be soft at 6:00.
Working on stretching every day.

Really gased after the kick drills. Rocked the main set.
Pulled the pace line from the front today.  Not passed once.
Got kicked in the quad, from the other lane, good times.

RTB Masters Swim (2300)
WU: 5x100 Swim
DR: 8x25 (25 Kick on Side, 25 swim)
MS: 2x { 4x200 with 1st 200 150 Easy, 50 Hard,
  2nd 200 as 100 Easy, 100 Hard,
 3rd 200 as 50 Easy, 150 Hard,
 4th 20 as 200 Hard. }

I do find them interesting, I don't quite understand it all, just learning still. I'm  all so impressed. Keep up the good work and don't stop posting. Something to aspire to.

I've had a quiet couple of days. Tired and sore. The wind has been unreal here and I think it kicked up the allergens. Not sure if the itchy eyes, running nose, and sore throat are allergy's or not. Don't feel sick.
Still meeting the water challenge.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Has everyone gotten lost? Biked and did upper body strength, and swam 30 minutes for 500 meters. Swimming is getting easier, still can only do 1 whole lap front crawl. I try to intersperse it with back stroke(my favorite, and easiest). I plan on getting some instruction when I get back from vacation.
Headed to the mountains for another week of skiing. I have found a hot tub to use. Do laps in it count?Wink

Hope to read from you all soon.  Doing well with the water.

Swim 1000
Bike 44.68
Run 1.6 (Frown) miles

Not quite what I had in mind. I will need to start weaning myself from the strength training if I ever want to find the time to get a few more s/b/r/ workouts in.

Hidy Ho All!! Yeah, I know...where the heck have I been? Sorry but life has just taken a bit out of me and it all caught up with me the last few weeks. I am ashamed to admit that my training and BT time is usually the first thing that takes a hit. I used to use my workouts as my happy pill but lately i'm having a hard time just getting the necessary things done.

Ok, enough of the pity party!!! I have to get back on the bandwagon and get the things that I can control going again

Mav, I hope things turn around for you although i'm glad they are starting to look up...and i'm sorry I "took off" right as you have to become a couch potato.

K, off to take kiddo to ballet class.

OH BTW, we got a new dog! I have been wanting one and for one reason or another we have been putting it off. Well one day I told Sam that we would go look at the dogs at the pound "knowing" that we would never find one to take home. Boy was I wrong!! We found a black lab and he is perfect for us so I drug my hubby back the next day (under his constant protests) and needless to say, Tristan now has a happy home with our crazy family

*tap, tap...is this thing on?* Ha, ha

Anyway, I got out this morn for a short run and was slow as pond water but I have discovered that while Tristan does great on a leash (even running) that running with him AND Sammi in the stroller is a butt kicker ~ even for as short of a run as I did today!! I guess it just makes running alone that much easier right?!

Strength training is something triathletes dont do enough of...they sacrifice it for SBR...there does have to be a happy medium. As the season gets closer and you have to do more SBR you wont regret the time you put in to strength training. Your numbers look good....maybe try to run a little more....thats all!!! Nice job!!!!!

Hi tri-bodies,

Balance in life and training is so hard to find.  Each time I aim for balance, I find myself swinging past center, and out of balance again. I'm looking over my logs and was wondering how everyone else is doing on their plans.

Here is an informal pole.
1.  How many runs do you have planned for this week?
2.  How much of your training time budget are you spending on the run?
     Less than 1/3, about 30%, 50%, more than 50%?

Cheers,
Fit

Well i'm happy to say that I got my laps in. I have no clue what the distance was since I had to go across the pool instead of using the lanes...it was old lady aerobic time and I really wasn't even supposed to be there but luckily I know the lifeguards and most of the old ladies so noone really cared

Tonight I HAVE to change my tire on my bike. It keeps going flat so there is obviously a problem that I am unaware of so I must do it since I have to "ride" (read: most likely trainer) tomorrow.

Now I must get some homework done ~ ugh!

I hear ya on the balance thing...my scale has completely tipped over the last few weeks so I have all but given up on my 1/2 mary in March and decided to go back to the basics. IOW, I am starting from scratch with a beginner plan so that I can build myself back up in all three areas equally and without injury. I tend to spend more time on running since it is my "happy place" and no time swimming since it is just the opposite. Soooo, to answer your question...all three events for me right now take up 33.33% of my training time with 2 runs this week.

Cheers right back at ya
