Hi guys,

Kind of late to be posting here but I thought I could get some advice.  My husband won't be coming with me (temp health issues) and I need to figure out how to get my pump back to car - they say you can't leave your pump in transition race morning.  Is there street parking close to transition if you get there early enough or is it better to park in one of the 4 lots/ramps they mention in the athlete guide?

I'm a 64 (USAT 65) female from northern Minnesota and this is my 1st 1/2.  Our daughter is a senior at UW-Madison so we spend a lot of time in Wisconsin - actually might be moving to the border (around Hudson) next year.

On the navigation menu of the website, go to Course -> Swim Waves.

Or, just follow this link:  http://ironmanracine.com/course/swim-waves/

I'm bringing my pump with me & will inflate my tires in the AM and leave it in transition like I do for every race.  Is there some reason we won't see our bikes in the morning?  I might be missing something.

Also, they will have some pumps in transition and other ppl always have them.  That said, the only time I ever used a pump that wasn't mine I flatted twice on a course - needless to say I use my own pump now

I think I saw transition is open till like 6 a.m.??  Unless yuo put all your gear with the bike when you rack it, you have to get in there morning of.  Cant see why they wont let us in????  Last year they had a bike first aid station in transition before the race. 2 or 3 dudes with pumps and pressure guages, and a mechanic.  I wouldnt bother bringing your own pump.

I never could find the waves last year either. I will be bringing my pump into transition as well. I have a hard time with other people's, I have a female specific pump.

Any one getting nervous yet? I have started my freak out cleaning to keep me busy for the next week! And I found a hole in my wetsuit from my race last week!

Hey guys,

This is what I was talking about - pg 12 of athlete guide.

"To avoid an unexpected flat tire, wait until race morning to inflate your tires to their proper air pressure. There
will be a limited number of pumps available in the transition area on race morning so we recommend you bring
your own. You must give your pump to a family member or friend before the race start, since pumps will not be
accepted with your pre-swim bags."

Not sure what a pre-swim bag is????????  Does this mean it's ok to just leave pump in transition????

OOOOH yeah you can leave it in transition.  The pre-swim bag is used bc transition closes at 6 and we don't start racing until later.   So in the pre-swim bag you will shove your sandals, jackets to keep warm, leftover food, anything you have on you before the swim that you won't actually swim with or need during the race.  You check that pre-swim wave so that you don't have to junk it all or find someone to dump it on

Do you live in Madison?  If so, Madison Wetsuit Repair fixed my 6" seam split in three days.  And it's perfect!

PS. I'm not nervous....the water temp is always my great fear and so far it's in the upper 60s (67F today).  Now please let it be calm!

I live in Grand Rapids, MI. Glad to hear about the water temps warming up. I was in Lake Michigan yesterday on this side and it still felt pretty cold.

I didn't know about the bags for the swim. Last year I just walked carrying my wet-suit and no shoes. Good to know!

Regarding the Pump question. I usually pump to 120psi the day before and then I do not touch the tires the morning of the race. Would hate to blow a tube and then stress with having to change a tire the morning of the race.

Found this site that provides water temps on lake Michigan. Not too sure how accurate it is; however I like the reported 68F water temps.

From reading race reports, it sounds like there's not much post-race food left for back-of-packers.  I'm thinking of stashing some kringle in my transition bag.  Is O&H the best place to get it?

BTW, I just bought a pair of goggles ladies aquashpere and tried them.   LOVE THEM!!!  Wish I would known about these babies long ago.  Great fit, no leaking, and I can see great in them!!

Hope everyone is enjoying the taper.
