Caleb, that's great to get the wife involved for lots of good reasons.   However, it also means two bikes, two wetsuits, many pairs of running shoes...

Dave, yes, I know.  I love him every race day.

Boston marathon result:  2:03.  Yes. That's right. 2:03.

Guess my Marine Corps first ever marathon results in October won't make the front cover of anything... Karen

Jen: I would rather mt bike ride any day over road riding.  I like the fact that cars are not on the trails in the woods, plus I like having to be on your toes at all times for changing terrain.

Coach - next time you're here try out River Mountain Trail...its a paved road for Bikes, runners, walkers etc. There are only 2 small parts of the ride that you have to worry about cars.

And if its been a while since you've been to Vegas there is a new resort called the M. Their buffet and resturants trumps all the other buffets in town. Must see next time anyone comes to town. I havent been to the Rio since they opened. And yeah early I was talking about the new kids movie the Rio. Laughing

Had a pretty good race. Finished in 1:09:35 which is 8mins faster than last year. The competition was better this year so I was a little disappointed with my placing. I was 21 out of 43 AG (that time would have put me in 12th last year). Gives me motivation to improve for the next race.

We have a new tri-addict in the family. This my wife's very first tri and she's ready to do some more.

Great job!!  That's the reason I'm not pushing my wife to try triathlons. Laughing  Then we'd both have to try to fit training in and all the other expenses.

Hey Team.

Just go off the phone with my new heart doctor - have to go for a stress test on Thursday afternoon to do some more checking and follow up on my weird heart valve I told you about late in our last forum. Frown A bit down in the dumps about it. He figures I should have no problem with it based on all the stuff I do. Sure hope he is right - I have a long way to go to get better at the swimming thing and I don't want any set backs! Smile.

Jen - don't let Coach give you a hard time - I try my wet suit on at home as well except I am not brave enough to take a picture and post it - although I think it is just as flattering as my red spandex - LOL.

Hey Team.

IceMan - I am going to concentrate on keeping my legs closer together during kicking tonight. I just watched my youtube vids and I do seem to let my legs separate - thanks.

Karen and Jen - check this transition video out - it is great and deals with the shoe thing. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1488

And - I LOVE THE NETI POT Smile I am sure it helped me with my cold this winter.

KC

Thanks KC.  Lots of good advice in the video.  Never htought about Body Glide-ing the shoes! -Karen

KC why are you going to a new heart doc?  I thought everything was OK.  Don't stress about it maybe the new doc will give you a wonder drug helping you swim like a fish! :-)  Hang in there and keep us posted.

One very important lesson I learned fighting cancer - don't borrow trouble.  The mind will convince me all is lost without any facts to back it up.  I learned to stay in the moment.  I got so good at it I had to write down doctor appts or I would forget about them.  If there is nothing to do but worry, go do something else.

Oh, I would bet good money that he's right--doing what you do without having chest pain, you should have absolutely no problem.  And geez, we ALL have a long way to go with the swimming...  I bet you get a thumbs up/go ahead from the doctor.

Scott that is how I try to deal with things: "it is what it is" I try to control what I can and just deal with what I can't.

Coach - it is the same heart Doctor - but new to me (only a couple weeks now that I have had one LOL) so I call him new. After this Thursday however I am hoping to call him my old heart doctor Smile.

IceMan and Coach - thanks for the clarity of thought - you are the best.

I will keep you all posted on how I make out Thursday. As for right now, I got a bike and a swim to do!

KC don't let a stress test get you down. My father has done many... And you are 100x more active then he is! Keep your head up. I can sing you my favorite movie qoute "Cheer up Charlie show me your smile" Oh and I thought my wetsuit model photo would get more then just one joke. I should have laid in a puddle of water and pretended to swim. Next time

Crit racing was fun.  I usually ended up getting dropped pretty quick but it was a great experience.

Viszla's are Hungarian pointing dogs.  Some of the cutest dogs ever!  My Murph-man is 5 years old.  http://www.google.com/search?q=vizsla&hl=en&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=n8OsTcnlL4mCsQPOj6zJCQ&ved=0CCgQsAQ&biw=1170&bih=798

Feeling great after week 1.  A little over 5 hours of training.  Supposed to do strength training and stretching tonight.  I'm in San Fran for work and not feeling motivated.  A little power nap back at the hotel will hopefully help!

Looking forward to being part of the group!

Deb thats a rough day to spend at "work", Scott posted the winners time but that is insane. A girl that runs around here did a pokey 2:4x..  She's crazy fast.  Heck my 1st half was that fast.

Charlie--About the allergies, this is what I do, so I'm going to be nosy.  Ha, no pun intended.

I'm guessing you are on nasal steroid, allergy pill (allegra/claritin/zyrtec?), nasal rinses.  Questions: Are you mixing the nasal rinses according to instruction?  If they are mixed too strongly or too weakly, it can make things worse.  Also why swimming can make it worse.

Have you tried Astelin or Atrovent Nasal sprays?  They are more of the sudden action types, rather than the "build up over time" steroid sprays.  OTC Afrin can help temporize things during a bad spell, as long as not used more than 3 days at a time.

What are your allergens?  Currently grass season, so if you have those, it could explain some of the badness.  If dust mites, are you washing sheets biweekly in hot water/getting rid of carpet/etc?

Not nosy I was looking for tips or ideas I haven't thought yet.  You pretty much yet the nail on the head.  I am on Astipro, Omnaris, singulair, Nasal Rinses using the Nielmed Bottle, and Zrytec.

Definitely getting into my bad season, but this past 12 months have seemed worse than normal.  I am hopeful though it is the chlorine aggravating the sinus membranes that have caused the discomfort over the past year.

Hey Team.

I hope everyone had a great day.

I did not get my swim in tonight. As I was getting ready to leave the house I got an unexpected call from my Dad. He had to rush my Mom to the hospital. She was experiencing some shortness of breath and tightness in her chest. Just a quick history, she has a pace maker that was put in last summer for an irregular heart beat. Anyway, she has a build up of fluid around her heart and lungs and is being monitored as I type this. She is resting comfortably and will probably be in the hospital for a couple of days.

I know some of you may think it is a bit strange, sharing this kind of stuff with complete strangers but I figured you would not mind if I lean on all of you for a bit of support (like I don't already LOL). Anyway, hopefully she will be in there for only a couple of days. I will be back up to see her tomorrow.

Thanks for being out there and listening.

Stay safe everyone.

KC

KC-  will be thinking about you and your family

Charlie- yeah, that sounds about maxxed out.  Using Omnaris two sprays twice daily?  And if you think it's allergy mostly, you can take both zyrtec and loratadine/fexofenedine in the same day.

Jen- I will DEFINITELY try on my wetsuit, if I ever buy one.

No training yesterday--got to work to find out that I was (surprise) on call last night.  Luckily it was quiet, but I didn't get anything done.   Missed a big swim and a 30min run.

Have 55min bike and 60min run today, so I probably won't be making up those workouts.
