Oh hell no. I am no stick, I have mass. Hills and Scott don't like each other. Downhills, are great though. That's when I get to pass all your skinny people!

What's your height and weight? I'm 5' 11.5" and 184-186 depending on the day. I'm certainly not frail either.

LOL, tree trunks? I'm 6', 210 lbs.  Do you race as a clydesdale?  I thought about it, but registered as a novice instead.  Seems like the clydes/athenas are pretty fun group....

Nope, every one of my races, I've raced AG. I like to compete against my friends head to head.

I guess so. This sport certainly is kinder to the lighter people.

Nice value priced watch David!  Mine is very similar to yours and I used it to also time myself at the pool.  No problems found so far.  Do you plan taking yours with you as well?  I'm thinking about using my HR sensor during some swims to get my HR readings but concerned I might mess it up even though it's water resistant...

Roland - I swim with my HRM and haven't had any problems with it.  Mine is a Polar brand and I have always sent mine in to replace the batteries so as long as you follow the care instructions you should be fine.

I swam the 1000 meters! 100% crawl stroke, non-stop other than to turn around on the wall of the pool! Then I did 20 mins on stationary bike and played raquetball with a 7 year old (so I may as well have done a small triathlon) .  I will do a much longer race this weekend with the same distance swim, 17 mile bike and 5K (whew) I've done two shorter distance ones.

My question is: How hard should I work out this week and what day should be my last? I know rest is important, but maintenance is too! I'm just curious as to what everyone does before a race.

I would take the day off before your race. Make sure you are properly hydrated drink at least 120 oz of water the day before. Lower the intensity this week but can keep the volume someone decent. It's race week... Have fun!

Thanks for the reassurance Scott!  I just realized I made some miscalculations about my lap times.  Have you mastered the "Sweet Spot" drill from TI?  I feel like I'm balanced and relaxed but I noticed I kind of drift from left to right when my left arm is on my hip and vice versa for right arm.  Am I supposed to be going straight?

Welcome to the group mariarose!  We are all crazy friendly people here!  Crazy about the sport that is.  Laughing

David just sent me my first "Inspire me" msg in my training blog.  Thank you very much mang! I like how you posted it the day I went swimming after having some yummy Lucille's BBQ Smokehouse baby back ribs.  hehehe!

I use Endurox and Glutamene. I one tbsp of glutamene per one scoop of endurox.

Hi Scott,

Purchased some small packs of Endurox Tangy Orange this past weekend and wow what a difference this recovery drink has made!  For the past few days my body has not felt that somewhat "over-reaching" sensation.  Next question, do I still need the glutamene?

Gosh, sorry to hear about that bro... never go out with the minimum which I think is a repair kit (pump, 2 tubes, 2-3 tire levers) and your wallet.  Lately it's been that but also my cell phone, keys, emergency contact info.  Extra weight I know but well... you know... Ughhhhhh

I went out once about a year ago with only 1 spare tube but got 2 flats and had to walk home because all I brought with me was my wallet and repair kit.  I feel your pain...  >.<

On my bike rides I bring a cell phone, a few dollars, credit card, drivers license.  My husband who has been a bike mechanic for 24 years has generously put a spare tube and a thing that looks like a swiss army knife but with all sizes of wrenchy things in my under the seat pocket.  Yes, I am spoiled when it comes to the biking. I can put the chain back on but I'd better learn to change a flat.  He's fine tuned my bike over the past few years so it fits me perfect.  However, my bike is a hybrid and alittle heavier and slower than his bike or my daughters bike so I will probably try them out so that if I decided to switch I'll have time to get comfortable on a new bike.

I would carry at least 2 co2 bottles, an inflater, 2 tubes, and tire levers.  Also, I would recommend getting a road ID, that way you don't need to bring an ID with you. You can take a debit card with you in case you need to stop anywhere.

I would assume yes, I don't usually drift. I'm glad that you're feeling more balanced in the water though. That alone is going to improve your swimming.

Today, I plan to do a mock triathlon at the Middleboro YMCA. It's going to be raining all week here, so I'm going to take advantage of my indoor workouts.

Today, I will be swimming a mile (1760 yards, 1609.34 m). Then I'm going to bike Best Sustainable Level 3 (10' at 55-60 RPMs, 4' at 90RPMs 1' @ 105 RPMs 1' @ 90 RPMs 1' at 105RPMs 1'@90 RPMs 1' @ 105 RPMs 1'@95 RPM), then have a 45 mins Transition Run.

What is everyone else going to do?

Man, sounds like your gonna get your moneys worth at the Y - good on ya!.  I did strength this morning.  3 sets with various weights, 2 sets of various core exercises. Took your advice and tried some milk (soy) with a little chocolate syrup as a recovery drink.

This afternoon have planned 50 min bike with "hill repeats"(?) which my plan says is warm-up, then 10 x 2' hitting Z3/4 at 65-70 rpm, with recovery on the down hills. Z2 the rest of the time.  Question: my course has a bunch of small hills, no big ones.  Is it equivalent if I just shift into high gear and mash the pedals for 2 mins? Should I be hitting the "split" button on the hrm when I do them?  I think these are gonna hurt Tongue out....weakness leaving the body - right?
