Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! A 20-minute water run in for the Easties. Wow, i'm 1/3 of the way towards my goal ... too bad the month's 2/3 of the way through! I did get to watch really hot, ripped young dudes on TV while I was aquarunning, though. |

It really was great weather! Sounds like you had a good race. I was not so hapy with my swim time and thought I was going much faster on the bike... I knew my run was going to stink so that was pretty much as expected. But today I'm hurting... Not so much from the race, from too much celebretory wine at "harvest fest" last night. I have the spreadsheet updated and will get to my race report soon. |

I have the spreadsheet updated and will get to my race report soon. Don't worry about the swim time, I ALWAYS end up with seemingly slow swim times there (I think the course is measured a bit long). Also, my Garmin said 18.2 miles for the bike and I started it a little late, so maybe you were going a bit faster than the results say! Glad to hear you had fun celebrating later on though Look forward to reading the RR! Edited by doctorbob18 2011-08-21 5:36 PM |

Expert 908 Niskayuna, New York | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! Just got in a very short, and unscheduled run. Usually my motto is "doing anything for less than 15 minutes is pointless" (and yes I've had girlfriends make fun), but looming storms turned 2 miles into 1.25. I think this will be the key to getting to my goal, adding in a few short, unplanned runs over the next 10 days. |

Expert 908 Niskayuna, New York | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! Also, this shows how crazy the Warrior Dash was last weekend. I was too sore to do anything for 3 days, only a short recovery ride on Tuesday. But after PRing a triathlon, I'm feeling good during active recovery workouts today. |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! So James has promised me a dog. I had my heart set on a miniature schnauzer but now I'm thinking I want to adopt from a shelter. Been looking online at shelters for the past couple hours... was going to run but my lower back hurts really bad after moving the last of our stuff from the storage unit so I've been laying in bed for hours hoping it gets better but anyway... I found this dog that I'd seen about 9 months ago and he's still up for adoption. He's about a year old and it just breaks my heart that he's still at the shelter. The reason he hasn't been adopted is because he has a genetic disorder that has left him almost completely hairless. He's a little odd looking because of it but honestly I think he's kinda cute. According to the shelter he's a sweetheart and just love people. I really want to get him but I'm not sure if I'm crazy for wanting to adopt a hairless dog. For some reason, I'm drawn to those dogs who have heartbreaking stories or no one else wants because they're different. I just want to go get him and bring him home and give him the best life he could ever have. |

I spend a lot of time talking about what kind of dog I will get and my favourite breeds etc, but I know that when it comes to it and we are in a position to get one, we will go to a shelter and get the most hopeless case because I just feel terrible that some of these poor dogs spend so long in shelters. Also, it depends on where you are but I know some places only keep dogs in their shelter for a certain amount of time and I have heard of a sad case where my friends called for a specific dog they had heard about and were told the dog was no longer at the shelter. So sad. |

You'll never have to put up with dog hair on the couch, your good clothes just before you go out, never have to pay for clipping and grooming, the dog will dry off much quicker after getting out of a swim and you won't have to put up with the dog then shaking water all over you. All good reasons why you are not crazy for wanting a hairless dog. PS, please call it 'Harry' when you adopt it |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! I totally support adopting shelter dogs. I have done it myself and they have been some of my best dogs! Just make sure that the dog is healthy besides the genetic hairless bit. Also that his energy level fits with what you want from a dog. A friend of mine has hairless, and nearly so, cats. She says that the hairless ones need to have a cream put on the skin to protect it from cracking and such. So make sure that you check with a vet about any special care that would be required. If you are willing to do what is necessary for the dog and he fits in with your family, then he will certainly be a "lucky dog" to have found the right people! |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! Thanks everyone for your input. I talked to James about him and he says its up to me as it will be my dog. We just have to finish getting the house together and then we can go look in a couple weeks. I did a little research about hairless dogs and they do require a little extra attention so they don't get sunburnt, dry skin etc but it was all stuff I would definitely be willing to do for him. The good thing is that he is at a no kill shelter so I know that at least he will always have a home there. He has a brother with the same condition that the shelter has found a foster home for. I have been to this shelter before and they are absolutely wonderful. To me they go above and beyond what normal shelters do. If he does get adopted before we're ready to bring a dog home I told James I want to adopt one from one of the local shelters that are not a no kill shelter. I've seen several listings online that say "Urgent" which means the dog will be euthanized if they don't find a home for it soon and I'd like to be able to save one of those. |
