Member ![]() | ![]() I did the same thing today. It felt good, but I was wiped this afternoon. 3 straight weeks of training I think are taking their toll. Think I am in line for a recovery week next week. Don't want to over do it this early in the season. fgholloway - 2012-01-11 3:44 PM lunchtime jog = yum. 3.6 miles in 33 minutes. Hair will look like crap for the rest of the day, but the body feels pretty good. don't know why i don't do this more often.

Recovery is an important part of training! If you're feeling wiped, it's certainly a good idea to back off for a bit. I don't always do recovery weeks, but certainly do recovery days, or take a day off when I think I need one. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How's everyone doing? I've done pretty well sticking with my schedule so far this week. Today is a pretty easy day - swim early in the day and 45 min spin class tonight. My step-mom was released from the hospital yesterday, but will be in an in-patient rehab facility for up to a month (possibly more). Like I said, these illnesses take a huge toll on her, and it takes her a long time to bounce back.... I'm looking at flights and will probably head down there for a few days next week or the week after to visit and see if I can help my dad out around the house. |

I think I will manage to meet my goals this week. I'm fighting an uphill battle since I missed Sunday and Monday due t my son being sick. I feel like I have to push through and meet my weeks goals, or I'll lose the momentum I started building in December. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a nice, slow run this morning, and hopefully I'll get into the pool this afternoon. So, it looks like a good day. Wierd work schedule today, I have some after hours stuff to take care of, which frees up time in the afternoon. And, it wouldn't be the beginning of the year if we didn't change stuff at my job. I could go on, but in the interest of brevity, I'll just say that this one looks more promising then some of the previous ones. Jenny, I continue to keep your family in my prayers. I hope that your travels go well. Heidi, I'd run in the snow/slush. Only because that is not an option here and it would be something different. I hope to run when we go to Alaska this August. I know it won't be too cold, but if I can find some mountains, I'm doing it! Have a great day ![]() Edited by cdban66 2012-01-12 7:15 AM |

I avoid running if the roads are messy. I get paranoid about slipping and injuring myself or having a more serious accident with an out of control driver. It usually only takes a day for the roads to get plowed and cleared though so I am not stuck inside for long. Trying to meet my training goals for the week. My late night partying on Monday night (woot Roll Tide) didn't bode well for my early week plans, but I have recovered and am kicking it into gear again. We'll see how the lunch run and ride tonight go... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We got our first snow of the year followed with the ever so lovely...wintery mix which apparently will be hanging around most of the weekend. I don't mind running in snow/cold, but this stuff is just ugly! Ugh...my plans for a long run this weekend are now on hold, unless I go for the torture fest treadmill!! Monday looks OK, just cold, so it might just be a small delay. Heading in for a long easy trainer session (& catch up on Grey's Anatomy). |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jenny -- I'm glad your step mom is improving. Going down for a few days is probably a good idea. Your dad will be ready for a break or for some assistance by then. Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. I think I'm feeling better. I really can't decide. I'm going to take it easy at home at least for this morning. We have a candidate on campus this afternoon, and I really should be there for his teaching demonstration and hiring committee interview. I was supposed to meet with him individually this morning for about 15 minutes, and I decided that he probably wouldn't want to be that close to me -- my office is kind of small. I think I'm going to skip the run again today. I can't tell you how sad that makes me feel. But it's 18 out right now, and I just don't think breathing in that freezing air is going to help me get better. I will get on the trainer later, and I'm hoping I can put up with it for more than 30 minutes. The audio book is helping, but it is still so boring. I'll also do more core work today since that is not terribly taxing and I can do a little bit at a time. |

But I'm always like...I don't sweat that much! and it's not like I sit around the rest of the day in the clothes I go and run in. I know this is kind of a stupid question...but what's everyone' thoughts? Keep in mind I don't work in a "professional" enviornment, nor do I have "customers"...I share a trailer with 7 other people...and on any given day, I pretty much only have to itneract with them. Am I just being completly gross here? I mean, I still use deodarent and towel off the best I can given the availability of a sink... |

Am I just being completly gross here? I mean, I still use deodarent and towel off the best I can given the availability of a sink... It's not completely gross. ;-) One race I did where I couldn't shower off right away -- and had to drive home four hours before I would be able to shower -- I used something like handiwipes to wipe down the possibly stinky areas. It took only a minute or so. I used another wipe to clean off my face and my arms because I tend to get dust kicked up on me (you know, with everyone passing me all of the time). Doing that and changing into clean, dry clothes, I felt perfectly comfortable driving home. So I would recommend some wipes in addition to the towel. But if you didn't use them, you're still probably fine. |

Its a 1 hour training class once a week (development masters swim class). We did at least 1000 yards of drills and swimming plus stopping for instructions and so on. Since swimming is my weak area, I planned to do the program 2 days a week and then use my class on the Sat as the third day. Lovey Edited by Lovey 2012-01-12 2:55 PM |

Working in a trailer has me intrigued. I don't think it's that gross- unless you're running super long or super sweaty. I am a disgusting sweater |

Tomorrow I attend an indoor cycling certification class, so will be on the bike some amount during the day.... I probably won't be able to check in on this thread much (or at all) tomorrow, but I'll check in later in the day today and tomorrow night or Sunday morning. |

So far I have gotten in the water once, on the bike once and 4 runs are in the books. Tomorrow is a long ride, hopefully part of it with my wife. And Sunday is long run day. It is all good! My big challenge at this point is to make swims longer. I have the strength and wind, but the boredom hits me at about minute 30 and I am done. I really just need to "Cowboy Up" and work through it. Hmmmm, looks like I have the goal for next week staring me in the face... Good job on sticking to the plan. Enjoy the certification calss tomorrow. How long is it? |
