Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jsnowash - 2012-03-22 6:24 AM Hi guys! Sorry I've been sort of MIA this week! Just been kinda busy! I ran a 10K last weekend and set a new 10K PR (51:xx). I was pretty pleased especially considering I haven't done much in the way of "speed" training and didn't feel like I really pushed super-hard in the race. Training is going well this week. The next couple of weeks will be a bit of a challenge though - my youngest has half-days in school next week, then the following week is their Spring Break. I'm hoping maybe we can get away and do something as a family for a day or two, but we don't have anything specific planned at this point.... Congrats on the PR. That is a great time. I hope you can find something fun to do over spring break. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jsnowash - 2012-03-26 7:25 AM Hey everybody! Hope you all had a great weekend! What have you all been up to? We had a fun weekend -- but really didn't do too much. It's my husband's spring break this week, so he is much more relaxed and nice to be around. I'm still working on increasing the distance of my long run. I'm still not at pre-Christmas vacation levels. Swimming is going well. I'm taking my bike in for service sometime this week, then I will begin riding outside. Yikes. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Small taper for me this week as I gear up for a HM on Sunday (Danbury CT). Stretch goal time is 1:45 -- we'll see how close I can get to it. New bike is being assembled now; will send pictures as soon as it is ready. I'm getting a bike fitting this Friday so hoping all goes well with it. I know I will need some time to get adjusted to the new shifting and saddle (the bike came with an "s" style aero bar instead of the "j" style I have gotten used to). The shifters are also return to center (SRAM) instead of the Shimano I use now. The saddle is also an Adamo cutout so yet another adjustment there. I'll send pictures and a report as soon as I get everything done. Glad to hear about the PRs and excellent training going on. After my race Sunday I'll be totally focused on preparing for the Quassy Rev3 Half. Already sold out so should be a great crowd for race day. If anyone is doing that race, there is a supported course preview on May 20th. No pre-registration necessary, just show up at 7:45 a.m. They'll be doing the bike course and then optional run on the course afterward. Let me know if anyone plans to be there so I can say hi. |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Everyone! I've soooo missed reading this forum everyday. I spent all last Friday and Saturday at my gym taking training to pick up another group x program. It's a core program and it's quite challenging. It was a good two days, and I left with my certification so I don't have to submit a video of me teaching - which is fantastic. On training - been trying to run and little here and there - and it's finally getting nice here, so come hell or high water, the bike will see road this weekend. On a seperate note, my girlfiend asked me to do the run leg of the Silver Mountain Leadman triathlon next month. It's a "Ski, mountain bike, run" tri...so this should be fun. It's not too terribly long - about 4 miles I believe, so hopefully I can do the team proud!

I'm also focusing on Quassy Half. Be careful on the preview day..last year it was raining buckets and the "guides" did not know the course and got us lost within the first 3 miles-- we almost ended up on Rt 84 (a major highway!). Then everyone just gave up - It was a total waste of time! I plan on doing my own previews over the next 2 months. Start getting used to that new bike..is it an Adamo ISM? If so, they do take some breaking in time on your sit bones. But a lot less pressure on the front end!! I haven't been training much this week due to my husband's traveling schedule, but I've been out about 5 times on my new bike (I love it!) and did 2 bricks and I'm very satisfied with the increase in speed I'm seeing so far.

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the heads up Maggie. I'm pretty familiar with the bike course so hopefully we won't get lost (or at least I will chart my own path if they take a wrong turn!). If it's raining I will probably skip it. And yes, my new bike has an Adamo ISM saddle. I'll plan on spending quite a bit of time in it for the coming months. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm hoping to start getting down there soon. There was just a thread over in Gear Reviews regarding the ISM saddle. Like I said overall I really like it but my sit bones do a little "double take" every time I ride. Could this mean the new bike is a Roo?? We'll have to meet up a Quassy! Its amazing how this race (and REV3) has grown. |

Yes, I got a QR Cd0.1 Red (just came out this month). I'm used to Shimano components so changing to SRAM Red will take some getting used to I think. I'm also pretty sure I am going to replace the crankset with the new Quarq PM designed for the Red components (it's not out until April/May though). Overall pretty excited about the new bike (at least the bike will look good even if it's not going very fast). Absolutely we should meet up at the Rev. I'll be there with at least 2 other co-workers and maybe a few more there for support (it will be the first time at that distance for 3 of us). Not sure if we'll be in "uniform" but I will catch up with you before the race. Happy training. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys - just checkin' in before the weekend! It's been a hectic week (just a lot of little stuff... but it all adds up!). Kiddos are on spring break next week - that will probably affect my training to some extent. I'll probably try to get my training done early in the morning. Congrats on the new bike! Very exciting!! Are you gonna post some pics?!? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My training hasn't been good this week but I did get a run in last night. It felt really slow but surprisingly according to my Garmin, I was running my normal training pace. Cherry Blossom 10 miler on Sunday. |

It felt really slow but surprisingly according to my Garmin, I was running my normal training pace. Cherry Blossom 10 miler on Sunday. OHHHH, race time!?! Have a good one. Training has been alright this week, until Thursday. I ended up with problems at work and my schedule got all whacked out. And I am still here tonight at 11:30. Gotta love month end. Tomorrow is Relay For Life and my DW and I are part of the Survivor banquet that we do here in town. So, while I hope to get a ride in early tomorrow, it may not happen. She may work on Sunday, which means run/bike time for me. But, I'm not counting on anything this weekend. Enjoy whatever you have going on this weekend. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good afternoon! I hope the 10 miler goes well. I did my first long-ish run since before Christmas break -- 7.8 miles. If I had known how close I was to 8 miles, I would have run for another four or five minutes. I'm still happy with it. It felt good and comfortable -- I went just the pace I was hoping for. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of this weekend. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey gang -- looks like all the winter mentor groups have been archived.... I'll continue to check in here for a few more weeks if you want to keep posting. I hope everyone who raced last weekend was happy with your results! I just submitted my profile for a Spring mentor group, and would invite anyone who is interested in joining. For the spring group, I am offering FREE COACHING for a limited number of participants (probably 5 or so). I just finished that triathlon coaching certification, and figured this would be a great way for me to both give back to BT and gain a little experience coaching. So, if you are interested in personalized coaching for the next few months, keep an eye out for my Spring Mentor Group. (The only caveat is that I sent Ron a PM asking if offering free coaching is okay with the powers that be at BT -- I haven't heard back from him yet, so it's possible that they might not be willing to let me do it...). It's been great working with you guys! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for all of your help, Jenny. I appreciate those of you who stuck with the group. Being accountable really helps me stick to my training. My legs felt great after my 7.8 miles on Saturday. Then yesterday, I went for a very slow one hour bike ride with my husband (in 26mph wind gusts -- ouch) and ran 2.34 miles, and my legs are sore this morning. Not terribly sore, but I am still a little surprised. I hope everyone has a great day today -- our highs are expected to be in the low 80s with strong winds. Someone will be getting storms tonight. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for all the help Jenny. Great race in Danbury this past weekend. Ran the half in 1:38:50. My HR went high early and stayed there (171 average), but I was able to carry on. Not sure I had a whole lot left in the tank at the end though, and I am pretty sore today. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you everyone, and especially Jenny, for keeping me accountable during the start of the training season. It has been really cool getting to know some of you a little bit better through the group. If I don't hear from you I hope you have a great year! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you Jenny. My ten miler went better than I expected. My running partner and I decided to stay together the whole race. Our best ten mile run has been at a 14.5min pace. There was a time limit on the race so we had to run no slower than a 14min pace. My running partner was already under the weather but we ran the first 5 miles at a 12.45 min pace which I thought was too fast to maintain for 10 miles. She started feeling ill at mile 5 and decided to drop out of the race. I tried pulling back our pace but she was scared we wouldn't make the 5mild cutoff time. I continued on my own knowing my pace will drop to a 14. Well I finished at a 13.16 pace which I was happy with. |
