New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED jarvy01 - 2012-04-09 3:44 PM I live in the burbs, the rabbits scare the crap out of me though.... Pepper spray s your best bet, but your very unlikely to get mugged in the early am, statistically speakingQuestion......for those whom run early in the morning before the sun rises (more for the women but it applies to men as well) - - Do you worry about personal safety when you're out running alone? Do you have to worry about it? If you do, then what do you do to ease your mind? I live in an urban area with a moderate to high level of crime. I worry about running outside in the dark alone, which is why I do early morning runs on the treadmill. I'd like to hit the roads more, but I'd also like to properly prepare for that. A whistle? Pepper spray (isn't that illegal anymore?)? Would a cell phone be enough? **edited to add that you can forget the jokes about firearms. My husband and I are not gun owners and never will be due to our personal beliefs.

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I was up at 4:15 for a 3000m swim. I was to hit the 100s with paddles at 1:30/100. I was successful! Averaged 1:41 for the entire 3000m, so not too shabby. I had to be home by 6:30 so my husband could leave for work, so I had to hustle. Strength training this evening..... Off to get the house ready for today's open house. I'm taking the kids to the Natural History Museum for the duration of the open house. It's going to be a looooong day! Other cert levels are fairly difficultto get into. There are about 2,000 Level 1 coaches but only 200 Level 2 and 20 Level 3. The selection process for Level 2 and 3 is difficult. I would need to distinguish myself in some way before even being considered for the Level 2 program. Edited by kaburns1214 2012-04-10 8:32 AM |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Ok got in my swim this morning whoo hoo! Slept in on accident but internal clock kicked in and got me up. I am starting to like this swimming thing. Coach let me know I was looking really good and catching on quickly! Now I just need to work on putting longer laps in. Here was my workout today: 100 w/u 6x50 pulls Now Hopefully I can get in a short recovery run this afternoon. I was sore from the long run on Saturday. Hope everyone has a great day! |

Oh e oh e oh. thats the state of the art GPS watch that counts laps. Can you see where this is going. The leaders pulled up 50 short in this mornings 400TT. Arrrrrrrrrr. Coach was not happy with us. Lets make that a 2x400TT. ohhhhhhh. That was so much fun, lets do it again. Not. 32 mile group ride tonight. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED 3100 in masters swim follow by 20 minutes on the treadmill in lower zone 1. Recovery week coupled with moving to 4 running days a week equal the really short run. I felt surprising fresh today given my level of soreness and had a great swim. It's weird how soreness and fatigue aren't a direct correlation. I can be so sore yet fresh and other times not sore and all and fatigued. I also support those getting into heart rate monitor training. You'll never go back. |

Run this morning was slow. I can't remember the last time I ran that slow. Hour twenty on the trainer was much easier to keep my HR in line.
Registered Reagan for Kindergarten this morning. As I pulled up at the designated time a fire drill began. I should have known this would be an omen. It took 90 minutes to get that done and I had all the paperwork filled out ahead of time. What a mess. |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Finished my 30 min run...supposed to be in Z1-Z2, but man I can't "run" that slow to keep my HR down there. Judging off of RPE, I think I'm ok (I can chat up in the 150's HR), but my Z2 caps out at like 126 I think. |

Until you've trained with HR for a while the co-relation between HR and RPE can be tough to judge. Lots of people tend to under estimate RPE (for example I was just above threshold for my half marathon on Saturday but I could still talk). |
