Wow, she does it all!!! I was actually going to post in the Olympics crush thread but realized everything I had were american girls(mostly white) and I just didn't feel that was fully representative of my values Wink

Singapore you say??? My work might be sending me there in a few months. Double crossing my fingers now.

By the way, my friend declined the job in Thailand so my potential visit is delayed. You have more time to prep for hurricane-Salty.

You and me in the same place at the same time, to the Nth power if that place is Bali, is not a Hurricane Salty. It's going to be a double planetary collision semi-Apocalypse.

What if we just cancel each other out and everything is just normal and super boring? It doesn't work like that?

Asalzwed - 2012-08-02 1:44 AM I'm hoping there aren't any conduct standards for the 2016 marathon trials

YOU WANT TO RUN IN THE 2016 OLYMPICS TRIALS FOR MARATHON???

Laughing

Well, that's not exactly what I said. Wink

Fine. Coming clean. I will be, and really, have been, training to make the 2016 trials. It's official. Smile

and to be quite blatantly honest, my last marathon is not an indicator of where I am at. It was a sub-par performance.

That will be sooooo cool!  OMG, wait, I would have to cheer for an American!  I would do it though!!

Just out of curiosity, are there basic fundamentals in swimming that you teach a triathlete (or just an OW swimmer) that are totally different than average joe in the pool?

Salty, I keep forgetting to tell you about this amazing chick I swam with way back when ... she was coming up as I was going out, but man, she was HOT and she was FAST. Now she's an MP (Member of Parliament), a TV sports announcer, and is doing swimming announcing and analysis for the Olympics broadcasts in Asia. She's just one of those whole-package and way over then some people.

Joscelin Yeo of Singapore:

Drat. Can't find any full body pics of her in a swimsuit.

Man, that first picture sure doesn't look like the rest of her photos - she should yell at the photographer!

I just finished watching the live coverage of today's finals/semifinals swimming events and I'm all worked up!

If it's fundamental, it's by definition necessary for the remainder of swimming to work regardless of the level. But even if you put semantics aside, the answer is the same.

Now, if average Joe or OWSer wants to progress beyond moving from point A to point B doing freestyle in an amount of time that needs to be measured with a stopwatch (rather than a clock or sundial), yeah, the game changes. A lot. You are right at the point of game change, Miss Sub-1:40.

Let me apologize in advance as I don't really know that much about swimming BUT I consider kicking part of the fundamentals. Maybe it's not. I guess you could get from point A to point B to some degree without kicking but, not really. Right? I don't know!

Anyway,  it seems (from the very small amount of reading I have done) there is no emphasis on kicking. Even you said it.

And don't get me wrong. I am totally not challenging but this whole swimming thing is a total mystery to me and all my knowledge I am channeling comes from what they told me in 4th grade swim class.

Also, dumb it down a little. Remember your audience. I don't know big words.

Alright, well, as long as we are starting out the morning right: http://i.imgur.com/p3KyX.jpg

I'll go ahead and say slightly NSFW (which you know is bad if I'M saying it) although I just had a huddle of female coworkers around my desk from showing this. Guys...be warned.

Anyone think that's some fantastic placing of the scoring?

I was big into diving through High School, never understood the move to smaller and smaller speedos I mean guys butcracks are not "good form" we'll say...

Today was productive for me, 2+ mile run, 2750 swim and now am making Jalepeno infused tequila, Basil infused Vodka and peachelo.  Hope to repeat tomorrow, really odd seeing the 4 tossed out for badmiton always fun in the olympics!

AAAAAH where did I say there's no emphasis on kicking? I may have been LAMENTING that there's not enough emphasis on kicking ...

Kicking is absolutely a fundamental. One that (cue lamentation) is sorely misunderstood and underdeveloped in triathletes, often in the guise of the "saving legs for the bike and run" myth.

Well then, I guess I am using part of the above myth AND you saying, "If your legs aren't slowing you down (I assume you mean drag) then don't worry about them."

I realize I was probably getting crash course coaching for my crappy triathlon prep. BUUUT you did say it.

Also, that book just came in to the library for me to pick up. Should I just read it then worry about asking you questions? I don't want to waste your time. I feel like I have an extremely poor understanding of swimming.

The way I understand it and might be completly off but the kick is negligible for the actual speed across the pool; it helps with body positioning and stabilization, at least with freestyle...

Yanti please tear that apart to see how bad I comprehend swimming Tongue out

Speak for yourself Tongue out

Yeah, seriously, dude. Even I can appreciate some male butt crack.

Not when it was yours in High School just saying...

To each their own though

Can we talk about swimming some more? I need to cool off Sealed

Just out of curiosity, are there basic fundamentals in swimming that you teach a triathlete (or just an OW swimmer) that are totally different than average joe in the pool?

Ah yes. Well, that's in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" (especially right before a race) category.

Pick the book up, AND ask questions.

I have changed my mind. We are going to need your buttcrack photo for our calendar. It's the new July.
