LMAO ![]() Message aside, Trump single handedly got the whole world talking about him with this. I was listening to soundbites of Obamas press secretary the next day and seriously every question anyone asked he brought up Trump. So he's even taken over Obamas press secretary. I was bouncing around to various local news sites last night that had polls asking if people support Trumps statements and there wasn't a single poll that was under 75%. Obviously internet polls aren't scientific by any means, but if the public is in line with what Trump is saying and then you contrast that against the "be more tolerant" approach of the current administration then this could be one of the single most brilliant political moves I've seen in my lifetime. If the people are genuinely outraged and don't feel the way Trump does then it will be a big mistake. Either way, Trump is shaking things up big time. I'm genuinely interested to see what his polls do over the next few weeks. I know a bunch of Trump supporters and even a few Republican non supporters and every one of them absolutely love what he did. BTW, I got tickets to his Town Hall in Des Moines, IA this Friday. I'll be sure and let him know everyone at BT loves him. ;-) |

You talk a lot about how he's "shaking up the conversation " and "getting people's attention" but I haven't heard you say whether you agree with the things he's proposing. Is it because, unlike many of his supporters, you're smart enough to figure out that most of it is just noise with little in the way of actionable plans or is it because you're in favor of banning/registering Muslims and you'd rather not admit to it on a public forum where most people, even the other conservatives, seem generally opposed to the idea? |

I'll be sure and let him know everyone at BT loves him. ;-) I eluded a little bit to it earlier that he should have proposed a moratorium on all immigration until we figure out a better way to check whose coming into the country. The "ban all muslims" was a little silly and as you mentioned completely impractical to do. "Are you a muslim?" "Uh, no".. "OK, you can enter" lol My personal thought is that he is doing this as a pure political play to get everybody in the US talking about Trump, and without question he has done that. He does have a huge base of support that are radically opposed to immigration from the south and abroad, so they will absolutely LOVE this new tone and rhetoric. I'm a little more in the middle in that I feel we have a big problem with unfettered immigration, and I want to have better checks/controls on who can come into the country (no matter where they're coming from). I also want to have a legitimate work permit program where people along our border countries can essentially get a work permit (like a drivers license) where they go through whatever checks and then they can legally come to the US and work. Then, anyone who chooses to come here illegally can be sent back without questions. Building a wall (or securing our borders in general) is a component of this type of plan. Trump likes to talk about building the wall and sending everybody back, but in his defense he does also say that he wants to have a big giant shiny door that people can return or come here legally. The problem with our current immigration is that we have an impossibly long system that only people with a lot of time and money can use to legally get here. Then we have the "wink wink" anybody who gets on our soil can stay here system that many good people (and some bad ones) use. This is where people like Trump get a foothold because our current leadership as well as many of the candidates on the Republican side like the illegals coming over for various reasons and want to maintain the status quo. Minority communities and blue collar workers are flocking to trump because they're the ones hit the hardest by the cheap labor express from the south. Not sure if I answered your question or not, but none of his recent comments dissuade my support in the slightest because I recognize it as Trump being Trump. Political correctness is a cancer in our society, and it's good to have somebody who is comfortable speaking his mind for a change. (even if it is a bit on the goofy side) |

Can't deny that they're reliable. I see a lot of wishful thinking like this on the internet, but history isn't quite as you remember it and it works both ways. All candidates cater to their base in the primary (democrats and republicans) so it's silly to say that this only effects Republicans. Go back to the prior two elections and we see the same problem the Republicans had, only it was on the Democratic side who came out on the short end with out of touch elitists who had little support or excitement from their base. (Gore/Kerry) Now, we're heading into 2016 with the Republicans who have a populist candidate with HUGE support from a broad constituency within the Republican party. He leads in women, men, old dudes, young dudes, etc. I think the only place Trump isn't leading is with the religious vote because he's about the least religious guy in the race (on both sides of the isle). So, it is deja vu all over again but I don't think you're going to like the vu this time around. |

The US is not going to be welcomed as liberators and the US is not going to spread its form democracy. We've saved the people of Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan from their oppressive dictators only to embolden radical Islamist and ultimate hurt the people in those countries. I bet the Muslims in Yemen are much more upset about the US drone strikes in their country and the US assisting Saudi Arabia's unwelcome intervention in Yemen. So, you might wan to tell Obama to stop doing that.
